ALGONA, Iowa (June 1, 2023) – Alex Smith earned career win number one in the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods to highlight an exciting night of dirt track racing at the Kossuth County Speedway on Thursday, June 1.

In his sixth season in the class, Smith started on the pole and led the entire race with a good battle for second place behind him between Charlie Stevens, Justin Raymond, Alec Fett, Matt Looft and Jake Simpson.

Raymond prevailed in that battle as Fett was third with Looft taking fourth and Simpson rounded out the top finishers in the feature. Smith made it a clean sweep on the night as he also won his heat race.

For the fourth straight week, Olivier Monson simply dominated the Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compacts as he grabbed the lead immediately and cruised to his fourth feature win of the season at the track.

Brooke Osler and Lucas Parsons had a good battle for second place to try to keep things interesting for Monson but had nothing for the Thornton driver on this night.

Osler finished in second place in the feature with Parsons taking third.

Dan Hanselman led the first eight laps of the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature as the rest of the field battled behind him to chase for the lead.

Mike Smith won that battle between Brandon Nielsen, Josh Sidles, Jade Lange and James Burns to win his first local feature of the season as Hanselman ended up as the feature’s runner-up followed by Nielsen in third.

The IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature saw Wayne Landheer grab the early lead before Gary Pesicka was the new leader after lap number two.

A great five-car battle for the lead between Donovan Smith, Kevin Opheim, McCain Jennings, Calvin Lange and Pesicka went on the next seven laps as Pesicka continued to hold a slim advantage.

Jennings then wrestled away the lead on lap number eight and went onto the victory for the second straight week at Algona as Smith finished in the second position.

Lange took third.

Nick Meyer started up front and was the early leader in the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified main. Jeremy Mills and Meyer broke away early in the race and put on a good battle until Mills jumped the cushion halfway through the race.

Meyer took advantage of that and built a solid lead and went onto his first feature win of the season as Mills was second and Todd Stinehart finished third.

A single caution flew during the evening’s six features.
