Mather makes it three straight at Indee

By Jerry Mackey INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (June 27) – Cole Mather continued his mastery of the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car division by scoring his third consecutive feature win at Independence Motor Speedway on Saturday night. Tom Schmitt led early before settling for second to Mather.  Chris Simpson wheeled the Doug Cue-owned IMCA Modified to a hard-fought feature win. Simpson took the lead near the halfway mark from Kolin Hibdon. Brennen Chipp raced amongst the leaders the entire 20 laps in taking second at the checkers ahead of Hibdon.  Several drivers took their turn at the point in the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod feature. Kip Siems was able to slip by race leader Kyle Olson and go on to pick up the victory. Nate Smith followed Olson across the line in third.  Kaden Reynolds added another feature win to his already outstanding 2020 race season in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature. Reynolds raced under the checkers ahead of Tyler Olliendieck and Brett Vanous.

Logan Duffy scores first Indee IMCA Late Model win

By Jerry Mackey INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (June 13) – Saturday was a night for the record books at the Independ­ence Motor Speedway, with two bounties claimed and another set, plus hometowner Logan Duffy scored his first local win in the very tough IMCA Sunoco Late Model division.  A total of 124 drivers signed in do battle.  Duffy started racing at his local track by jumping right into the Late Model division at the age of 14 with veterans like Jeff Aikey, Curt Martin, Greg Kastli, Sean Johnson and many more. Under the watchful eye of his grandfather and IMS Hall of Famer Gary Crawford, Duffy scored the 25-lap feature win on Saturday night. Ben Seemann led early before Johnson took the point. Johnson led until a restart late in the race and that is when Duffy used the low line of the multi-grooved track to shoot into the lead. Aikey takes two at Indee

By Jerry Mackey INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (June 6) – The Independence Motor Speedway held racing action on Saturday with fans in the stands for the first time in 2020. With the Governor of Iowa easing the Covid-19 restrictions, a great crowd turned out to see 130 race car drivers put on an excellent show on a beautiful night for racing.   The IMCA Sunoco Late Model feature saw veterans Curt Martin and Jeff Aikey occupy the front row and battle early before Aikey was able to move out to the race lead. A caution with 10 laps to go brought Martin back to Aikey’s rear bumper, setting up another battle. Aikey was again able to hold back Martin on the restart as Darren Ackerman was able to hold the bottom line and race under Martin into second. At the checkers it was Aikey, Ackerman and the youngster Logan Duffy.  The IMCA Modifieds saw several drivers take their turns at holding the lead. Grandstands open at Independence Motor Speedway this Saturday

By Jerry Mackey   INDEPENDENCE, Iowa – The 2020 Independence Motor Speedway season resumes this coming Saturday, June 6 in front of a live crowd for the first time this year. Independence, promoted by jjamracing, which is comprised of Mick Trier and partner Justin Temeyer, is anxious to continue the racing season with fans in attendance. Racing runs under the IMCA banner with sanctioned divisions including the IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Late Models, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods. The 3/8 mile track, located on the Buchanan County Fairgrounds in Independence, will see the pits open at 3:30 p.m. and grandstand open at 4:30 p.m., with warmups set for 6 p.m. and racing to follow.

No races at Independence this Saturday

By Jerry Mackey INDEPENDENCE, Iowa – The officials of the Independence Motor Speedway have announced that races will not be held this Saturday, May 30 due to the Covid-19 restrictions still in place which does not allow fans to attend.   Racing will return to the Independence Motor Speedway on Saturday, June 6 with fans being allowed in the grandstand. More information regarding the June 6 races will be announced in the very near future.

Aikey collects Sunoco bonus on record night at Indee

By Jerry Mackey INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (May 23) – One of Independence Motor Speedway’s winningest drivers went home with a bonus following his latest checkered flag run, on a record setting opening night.  The headliner of the night was the 25-lap IMCA Sunoco Late Model feature. Jeff Aikey drew the pole position and went on to drive the Rick Dralle-owned no. 77 to a comfortable win. The race went flag to flag with Aikey taking the win and first $250 Sunoco Race Fuels bonus of the season over Eric Pollard and Sean Johnson.  Saturday mid-day rains made for very challenging conditions at Indee but thanks to the never say die attitude of co-promoter Justin Temeyer, the new season got underway on Saturday night with­out fans in attendance due to the Covid-19 restrictions. First $250 Sunoco bonus of season paid Saturday to IMCA Late Model winner at Independence

INDEPENDENCE, Iowa – The payday got even better for the winner of Saturday’s opening night main event for IMCA Sunoco Late Models at Independence Motor Speedway.  The first $250 Sunoco Race Fuels bonus of the season will be paid to the May 23 Late Model winner at Indee, on top of a possible $800 check.  Sunoco bonuses will be presented at Late Model sanctioned tracks this year. Drivers are eligible for one bonus during the 2020 racing season.  IMCA will announce mid-week before the dates bonuses are to be awarded at each track.  While the grandstand will be closed, fans will have the opportunity to watch the night’s racing action by logging on to IMCA.tv or affiliate DoneRight.tv. The live streaming service will carry a one-time charge and will not require a membership to watch from the comfort of your living room. Hot laps are scheduled to take to the track at 6 p.m. with racing to follow.

Independence Motor Speedway set to open Saturday

By Jerry Mackey  INDEPENDENCE, Iowa  – The 2020 racing season will see its first green flag of the season this Saturday, May 23. The sweet sounds of race cars flying around the 3/8-mile dirt track located on the Buchanan County Fairgrounds will be heard as five IMCA divisions will be in competition.  IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Late Models, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods will all be in action with hot laps scheduled to take to the track at 6 p.m. with racing to follow.   The season opener for 2020 will be very different as the track will open under the Iowa Governor’s restriction due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which means the grandstand will be closed. Each race car entering the pit area will be allowed to be accompanied by 10 persons, the social distancing guidelines will be in effect and cars will be pitted a minimum of six feet apart.   Fans will have the opportunity to watch the night’s racing action by logging on to Done Right TV. Independence Motor Speedway to host two nights of practice

By Jerry Mackey INDEPENDENCE, Iowa – The Independence Motor Speedway will once again roar to life with the sweet sounds of racing engines this weekend. On Friday, May 8, the IMCA Modifieds. IMCA Sunoco Late Models and IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars will be allowed to practice. On Saturday, May 9, the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks will be welcomed to the speedway. By splitting the divisions and running practice both nights, the governor’s guidelines for the Covid-19 virus will be much easier to follow. Unfortunately the grandstands will be closed and all crew members must remain with their cars in the infield. Ten persons will be allowed entrance to the pit area with each race car. The race track will be open both nights for practice from 5:30-9 p.m.   The season opener is set to take the first green flag on Saturday, May 16. Deery Series doubleheader next at Maquoketa, Independence

MAQUOKETA, Iowa – Deery Brothers Summer Series drivers return to a pair of famil­iar venues next week, with $2,000 to win features Tuesday, June 18 at Maquoketa Speedway and Wednesday, June 19 at Independence Motor Speedway. Both IMCA Late Model main events pay a minimum of $300 to start.  Maquoketa, the site of a dozen previous Deery events, opens the pit gates at 3:15 p.m. Racing follows 6:15 p.m. hot laps, with IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods on the program as well. Spectator admission is $20 for adults, $18 for seniors and students and free for kids ages 12 and under, while pit passes are $30.
