Indee holds season championship events

INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (Aug. 8) – Saturday saw the 2020 IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Rac­ing season come to an end with the running of season championship races at Independence Mo­tor Speedway and several division titles were decided in dramatic fashion.

The IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars came into the night with Leah Wroten holding a two-point ad­vantage over Tom Schmitt. Wroten needed to finish no more than two positions behind Schmitt to earn the season championship. With Phil Holtz racing out front and both Schmitt and Wroten headed to the front, Wroten was involved in a skirmish that sent her to the back of the 20-car field.

Wroten then charged back to the front as a young lady on a mission. When the checkers flew it was Holtz taking the win with Schmitt in second, Kevin Rose was in third and Wroten raced all the way back to fourth. The finish ended the season point standings in a tie with Schmitt and Wroten and the tie breaker was feature wins with Wroten holding the advantage. 

Wroten stated in victory lane, “Winning a track championship was not even on our radar this year, as a rookie in the IMCA Stock Car class all I wanted to do was get seat time and finish races.” 

The same scenario played out in the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods. Tony Olson came into the night with a one point advantage in the season standings ahead of Kip Siems. Troy Bauer took the lead early and raced out front the entire main event as the battle for the track champion­ship unfolded behind him.

Siems raced to the front and Olson raced too high in turn four and dropped his right rear off the track which caused him to drop way back in the field. Olson charged back through the pack to earn a top five, crossing under the checkers one position behind Siems. With the finish, Olson and Siems tied in points earned but Olson held the tie breaker in feature wins earning him the track championship. 

Jeff Aikey put an exclamation point on a great season in the IMCA Modifieds Saturday night. Ai­key started the 20-lap season championship in the sixth row, with his teammate Kollin Hibdon in the second row.

Hibdon took the lead early and appeared to have the race in the bag until his mentor chased him down and made a late-race charge to the win. Aikey scored his first Indee IMCA Modified track title as well as winning the season championship main event. 

The IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks saw a first-time winner make his way to victory lane. Marcus Wayne scored his first win at his hometown track. Kaden Reynolds had built a comfortable lead in sea­son points and with a fifth place finish the 18 year old from Cedar Rapids earned the track crown. 

The IMCA Sunoco Late Models decided their season championships a week ago but ran a draw/redraw show on Saturday. Sean Johnson ended the season on a high note by scoring his third consecutive feature win. 

All 2020 IMCA point standings become official on Oct. 26.

INDEPENDENCE, Iowa – IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars run for $750 to win on Crawford Farms Hall of Fame Night Saturday at Independence Motor Speedway. A qualifier for the B & B Chassis All-Star Invitational and sponsored by J&V NAPA Auto Parts, the feature pays $100 to start. Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods race for $500 to win and $100 to start, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks for $300 to win and $75 to start. IMCA Modifieds and IMCA Sunoco Late Models are also on the June 19 card.  This year’s Hall of Fame class includes Paul Fitzpatrick, Bob Hilmer, Karl Sanger, Bill Barthelmes, Don Bedard, Tiny Russell and Gordon Bentley. An autograph signing session starts by the Bud Shack at 5 p.m. There will be a meet and greet with new and previously inducted hall of famers.Pits open at 4 p.m. and the grandstands at 4:30 p.m. with racing at approximately 6 p.m., temperatures permitting.

Olson stays hot on Iowa Donor Network Night at Indee

By Jeremy Fox INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (July 30, 2022) – Tony Olson made it six straight Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod wins at Independence Motor Speedway on Iowa Donor Network Racing to Save Lives Night.  Brandon Tharp and Will Wolf led the field to the green flag but neither led the first lap as Olson grabbed the top spot early and stayed in charge following multiple restarts and earn $750. Tharp finished second and Wolf was third. Kaden Reynolds was able to sneak by Cole Mather for the lead seven laps into the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car main. Already B & B Racing Chassis All-Star qualifying eligible, Reynolds caught lapped traffic but was not to be denied as he went on to take his third win, this one good for $750, of the season in Indee. Mather and Jarod Weepie were next to the checkers. Pollard, Hibdon Top List of Winners At Independence Motor Speedway

By Jerry Mackey  INDEPENDENCE, Iowa – Saturday, July 4th saw 111 race cars take part in the Independence Motor Speedway holiday special.  The headliner of the night was the 25-lap IMCA Sunoco Late Model main event. Eric Pollard shot to the high side of the speedway from his front row start and sailed to the win. Hometown favorite Curt Martin tried to reel in the quick running Pollard but was unable to mount a serious challenge in settling for second. Twelfth starting Kolin Hibdon scored the win in the IMCA Modified feature. The 16-year-old from Nevada used every line on the track in making his way to the front. Hibdon overtook race leader Ronn Lauritzen near the midway point of the main and raced under the checkers ahead of Lauritzen and Jeff Aikey.  The IMCA Sunoco Stock Car main event treated fans with a fierce battle for the lead which featured a pack of five drivers.
