INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (May 14, 2022) – Saturday was Night Two of the IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing Season at Independence Motor Speedway and it was absolute beautiful night for racing on the 3/8 mile banked oval on the Buchanan County Fairgrounds. One hundred and three race cars signed in and the night wrapped up at 9:45 p.m.

The first feature of the night was the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car 20-lapper. Cole Mather took the lead on lap two just before the first of four cautions over the next three laps. Mather held tough on the restarts and fended off Kaden Reynolds before pulling away.

Mather went on to go back-to-back to start the season and take his 29th weekly win at Indee. Reynolds finished second and Dustin Vis came back from an early incident to finish third.

Tony Olson started third but got by both front row starters Vern Jackson and Robert Patava to grab the early race lead in the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod 15-lap feature. Tony Olson led all 15 laps in the caution-free event to take his first local and 32nd career win in weekly competition in Indee. Brett Thomas and Kyle Olson rounded out the top three.

Quinton Miller grabbed the early lead of the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock 15-lap feature ahead of Ryan Craven and Jim Ball Jr. Miller continued to lead until 11th place starter Adam Streeter worked his way through the field to take the lead away on lap six.

The caution came out on lap 12, forcing a three lap dash. Streeter held off Daniel Wauters and Ball initially but Wauters was determined to go back-to-back. Streeter worked the lower lane and Wauters worked the top side as the two were side-by-side exiting turn four. Wauters beat Streeter by a nose at the line to take his second win of the season. Streeter finished second and Ball was third.

Troy Cordes got by Mike Burbridge and Adam Shelman to take over the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified race lead on lap three.

Cordes again held off Burbridge and Shelman on three restarts before taking his first win of the season at Indee and his 50th IMCA Modified win at Indee in weekly competition. Shelman and eighth place starter Drew Janssen ran 2-3.

The final feature of the night was the 20-lap IMCA Sunoco Late Model main event. Sean Johnson wrestled the race lead early when pole sitter Ron Klein experienced issues forcing him to the infield.

Johnson fended off Russell before pulling away. Logan Duffy finished second and Jerod Ballhagen finished third.

Next Saturday night is Albert Auto Night at the Independence Motor Speedway. Pits open at 4 p.m. and racing is at 6 p.m.
