Deery Series finale this weekend at West Liberty

WEST LIBERTY, Iowa – The Ideal Ready Mix 100 at West Liberty Raceway is the stage for the final Deery Brothers Summer Series event of 2014. In addition to opening night qualifying races for touring IMCA Late Models, the Friday, Oct. 10 program boasts the 25-lap $1,000 to win Ideal Ready Mix Ironman Challenge race, open to all former series champions and to drivers with perfect attendance through the first 13 Deery events of the season. Two 50-lap, $3,000 to win features are on the Saturday, Oct. 11 card. The first feature is the final points race of the series; the second, non-points race will invert drivers who finished on the lead lap in the opener, replacing cars not within one lap of the winner with highest finishing non-qualifiers from the “B” feature(s). Independence Motor Speedway banquet set for Saturday, Nov. 8

By Ryan Clark INDEPENDENCE, Iowa – The annual Independence Motor Speedway awards banquet has been scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 8 in the 4-H Building on the Buchanan County Fairgrounds. The event will recognize the top 10 in points in each of the five weekly IMCA sanctioned divisions. Track champions to be honored include Curt Martin, who earned a track record 11th title in the IMCA Late Model division; four-time Performance Bodies IMCA Modified track champion Troy Cordes; back-to-back IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock champion Benji Irvine and first-time champions Norman Chesmore in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Alex Zwanziger in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods. The event will begin with a social hour from 6-7 p.m. S&B Promotions will provide a free keg prior to dinner, which will be served at 7 p.m. and include roast beef, baked ham, corn, mashed potatoes and gravy, coleslaw and an assortment of desserts. Marshalltown Speedway banquet is Nov. 21

By Jeremy Fox MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa – The annual awards banquet honoring the top drivers this season at Marshalltown Speedway is set for Friday, Nov. 21 at the Marshall County Fairgrounds. The evening will begin with the social hour at 6:30 p.m. with dinner to follow at 7:30 p.m. at a cost of $20 per person. Once again, the banquet is open to all drivers, crew members and fans as we wind the up the celebration of 50 years at the Marshalltown Speedway. The top ten in points in each division will receive trophies and point fund money for those in attendance. High line takes Lawson to Virginia Sprint Series checkers

(Oct. 4) – Brian Lawson used a high line move to take over the top spot and hold on for his third Virginia Sprint Series win of the year Saturday evening at Shenandoah Speedway. Chris Ware and Anthony Linkenhoker paced the IMCA Eagle Motorsports RaceSaver Sprint Car field with Linkenhoker out first and looking strong. Lawson showed speed early, getting around Ware and setting his sights on Linkenhoker. Laps clicked away with Jerald Harris and Tony Harris joining top four. Lap 12 was a rough one for French Grimes as debris cut his right front tire, causing him to pound the concrete wall in turn one. Pounds, Hogge pace Pettit Memorial features

WATSONVILLE, Calif. (Oct. 3-4) – Brad Pounds was in the right place at the right time to win Friday’s Pat Pettit Memorial Shootout feature for IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds at Ocean Speedway. A morning spent in the shop put Bobby Hogge IV in Watsonville’s victory lane on Saturday. Pounds earned $2,003 and a berth on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot for his opening night triumph; Hogge, already vote eligible, went home from night two with a $3,003 paycheck. After starting outside Albert Gill on the front row, Pounds fell back in the field and had to work his way back up to second behind Kellen Chadwick. Just before midway in the 30-lapper, Chadwick pulled off under caution, Pounds inherited the lead and checked out on most of the pack. Fulton checkers give Fleming his second win of the 2014 Friesen Empire State Series

FULTON, N.Y. (Oct. 3) – Chris Fleming became the first repeat winner in the 2014 Friesen Chevrolet Empire State Series, leading all 25 laps of the Friday night main event at Fulton Speedway. The IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified tour victory paid $400. Fleming started outside row one in the Outlaw 200 Weekend feature. A long green flag run at the start got Fleming into lapped traffic before a series of cautions. The last restart came with three laps to go. “The track was really fast,” said Fleming. “I just tried to keep my momentum up and was able to pull away some after the final restart.” Keith Lamphere, tour point leader James Cornell, Gary Smith and Gary Roberts rounded out the top five. VINTON, Iowa (Oct. 6) – A who’s who of IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly racing will take their turns at the podium to tell about their 2014 championship campaigns during the national awards banquet next month. Zane DeVilbiss of Farmington, N.M., raced to his second national IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified title. He adds a bookend trophy to the hardware he won in 2010. Winners of career fifth national crowns were Mike Nichols of Harlan in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Shannon Anderson of Des Moines in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks. Flatlander IMCA Modified checkers fly for Gemmill, Heim

GOODLAND, Kan. (Sept. 26-27) – Long runs at the front ended with Brendon Gemmill and Chris Heim $1,500 richer for their IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified efforts at Sherman County Speedway’s Flatlander special. Gemmill was scored first on all but the first circuit on Friday night at Goodland despite a souring power plant. Heim, a weekly regular at Goodland, was even more dominating with a flag-to-flag run on Saturday. Their victories put both drivers on the ballot for the 2015 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. JACKSON, Minn. (Sept. 27) – Something about the Jackson Nationals brings out the best in Tad Reutzel. Reutzel led every time around the track in Saturday’s 20-lap IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified main event at Jackson Speedway in a program that doubled as the final night for the Redline Racing Parts North Star Series. The Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying checkers paid $1,500. FULTON, N.Y. – Round six of the Friesen Chevrolet Empire State Series takes the tour for IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds to Fulton Speedway for a Friday, Oct. 3 event. The $400 to win, minimum $75 to start feature is part of the opening night program for Fulton’s Outlaw 200 Weekend.
