Murphy rallies to Quad City victory

By Anthony Sandoval EAST MOLINE, Ill. (June 29) – With adrenaline running high, Mike Murphy Jr. was able to pull off the Quad City race weekend sweep. He won Friday at Davenport Speedway and was able to rally from early trouble to win his fourth feature of the 2014 season at Quad City Speedway on Sunday night. Murphy’s No. 14 IMCA Late Model was turned around by the No. 3 of Mike Cothron on the sixth lap of the 30-lap feature. After sustaining some right-front damage to his machine, Murphy did continue. He worked his way through the field, eventually passing Ray Guss Jr. with six to go to score the victory in the Eriksen Chevrolet-Buick sponsored feature. “The guys told me that I could keep going if I wanted to,” said Murphy. “I told them, ‘I’m mad enough to where I think I can stay out here.’ We kept riding and charging and I saw where I was better than everybody. Delp, Hansen earn first EQ Wild West Tour wins

VERNAL, Utah (June 27-28) – Two veterans of the EQ Cylinder Heads Wild West Tour made long-awaited stops in victory lane when the series for IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds visited Diamond Mountain Speedway. Casey Delp won his first tour feature on Friday at Vernal. Chase Hansen accomplished the same feat on Saturday, also earning $1,000 and joining Delp as a new candidate on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. Point leader Justen Yeager came into the series weekend with a three-race winning streak and ran second both nights. Michael Hale, Jake Donnelly and Eddie Belec completed Friday’s top five. Belec, Jeff Hunter and Bert Beech ended third, fourth and fifth, respectively, on Saturday. Delp counted three runner-up showings in 36 career Wild West Tour starts coming into the weekend. Montezuma County hosts July 5 Jim Henry Memorial

CORTEZ, Colo. – The Saturday, July 5 Jim Henry Memorial follows regular weekly racing on Independence Day at Montezuma County Fairgrounds Speedway. All applicable IMCA points will be awarded both days. On Saturday, IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds race for $750 to win with 15 or more entries. IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars are guaranteed $500 to win, Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center Southern SportMods $300 to win, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks $150 to win and Mach-1 Sport Compacts $80 to win. Entry fees for Saturday’s pill draw/redraw show are $25 for the Modifieds, $20 for Stock Cars and $10 for Southern SportMods. Pit gates at Cortez open at 4 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5 p.m. both days. Thiel runs away from Seymour challengers

By Dave Panske SEYMOUR, Wis. (June 29) – Robby Thiel ran away from everybody in collecting his Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod career first feature win Sunday at Seymour Speedway. After a lap two caution, Thiel set out to hide from the rest of the field. Hunter Parsons, Bruce Belland, Lucas Lamberies and Jessi Ness battled for the runner up spot as Thiel just drove away over the rest of the non-stop race. Lamberies held off the charging Jeremy Cota and Belland to take the runner up cash. T.J. Smith led the way over the first 4 laps of the Budweiser IMCA Modified feature event with Brad Lautenbach taking over on lap 5. Jason Czarapata came through traffic from mid-field to move into second in the Budweiser IMCA Modified feature before a caution erased Brad Lautenbach’s huge lead. Czarapata moved into the lead on lap 15 and took the checkers for his second feature win of the season. Brandon Czarapata drove to his fourth Coors Light IMCA Stock Car feature win of the season.

Decision to race pays off with win for Danley

By Greg Soukup EAGLE, Neb. (June 28) – Joey Danley’s decision to return to Eagle Raceway Saturday night paid off with his first IMCA Eagle Motorsports RaceSaver Sprint Car feature win of the season. Danley passed Gene Ackland following a lap nine restart and was still in front when the next caution came out and the contest was called due to the time limit. When asked if he was happy about the race being called Danley answered “Sure! I wasn’t going to even come race tonight after getting wrecked last week, but I’m really glad that we did.” Anthony Roth was on a mission in gaining his first victory at Eagle in the Kaplan University IMCA Modified feature Nick Beckman made his first trip to victory lane this season following the Valentino’s IMCA Hobby Stock feature. Trent Roth started 10th and finished first in the NAPA IMCA Northern SportMod main. Matt Moyer won for the second time this season in the Sam’s Club IMCA Sport Compact class.

Record breaking night for Dart at Thunderhill Raceway

On Saturday night, Thunderhill Raceway inducted its first Hall of Fame class and in a surprise turn of events, a future Hall of Famer took home the night’s top prize. Todd Dart etched his name in the record books again by winning for the 51st time in the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified headliner when a late crash sidelined Benji LaCrosse just two laps from the checkers. Dart had used an inside pass on Greg Gretz to take the lead on the third lap. LaCrosse was close behind and just four laps later swung to the outside to take control of the point. LaCrosse eased away to a comfortable margin, matched by Dart’s command of second. Focus shifted to the battle for third as the laps ticked away but things changed dramatically just as the white flag was about to fly. XSAN Hawkeye Dirt Tour event on for tonight at Algona

ALGONA, Iowa (July 1) – The XSAN Hawkeye Dirt Tour event will be held as scheduled tonight (Tuesday) at Algona Raceway. Touring IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds headline Algona’s Salute to Veterans Spectacular in a $2,000 to win main event. The runner-up earns $1,050, with $950 paid for third and $850 for fourth. Top prize for IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars is $1,500 while Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks both vie for $1,200 to win. The Mach-1 Sport Compact feature pays $200 to win. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, regional, Allstar Performance State and local track points will be awarded; Modifieds also get special series points. Independence Deery Series washed out, postponed to Aug. 6

INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (July 1) – Persistent heavy rain in recent days has forced the postponement of the Deery Brothers Summer Series for IMCA Late Models event at Independence Motor Speedway. Originally slated for tonight (Tuesday), it has been rescheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 6. Start times and prices will remain the same. Grandstand admission is $15 for adults and $12 for seniors and students. Kids 11 and under will be admitted free if accompanying a paid adult. Pit passes are $30. IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods were also scheduled to join the Late Models in the July 1 program and will remain part of the Aug. 6 make-up date. The winner’s share of the Northern SportMod feature has been raised from $500 to $600. The Hobby Stock feature will also pay $100 more than originally advertised. That feature winner will earn $400. Hogge aces Nor-Cal feature at Antioch

ANTIOCH, Calif. (June 28) – Bobby Hogge IV fought his way to the top, picking off the highly competitive field of drivers one by one in winning Saturday’s Nor-Cal Challenge Series main event for IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds at Antioch Speedway. “I had some problems in the middle of the race,” Hogge said in victory lane. “I almost spun out once.” Coming from 12th starting position in the 16-car field, Hogge watched as a battle waged for the lead between Kellen Chadwick and Ryan McDaniel. Wassenberg notches Northern SportMod win at Shawano

By Scott Owen SHAWANO, Wis. (June 28) – A high-speed chess match Saturday at Shawano Speedway ended with Tracy Wassenberg in victory lane following the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod main event. Lucas Lamberies shot from fourth to the lead on the first lap while Wassenberg moved into second on the fifth go-around, setting up that high-speed chess match. Lap after lap with Lamberies leading, Wassenberg tried to get inside and get to the front. Wassenberg showed his nose to the Clintonville teenager numerous times and Lamberies showed great poise staying in the lead. Wassenberg kept trying to get inside of Lamberies until lap 18 when he tried the outside and the pair were virtually side-by-side as the white flag waved. Wassenberg pulled ahead on the final lap and scored his fourth win of the year. Lamberies took second. Jordan Bartz started last by taking the challenge and finished third.
