SportMod Nationals resume July 4 at Hancock County

By Chad Meyer BRITT, Iowa (June 30) – Heavy rainfall prevented completion of the annual IMCA Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod Nationals on Thursday, June 26 at Hancock County Speedway in Britt. All main events were washed out in the storm. Persistent showers and clouds hampered track drying efforts on the scheduled Friday, June 27 rain date. All remaining feature events, including the 25-lap MaxYield Seed SportMod Nationals main event, will be run Friday, July 4 prior to regular weekly racing action. Hot laps begin at 7 p.m. with racing to follow. Twenty-eight cars are slated to start the SportMod Nationals finale. The winner of Hancock County Speedway’s MaxYield Seed Northern SportMod Nationals earns as much as $4,000 for his or her efforts. The main event pays a minimum of $2,500 to win with $500 bonuses if the first-place driver is a previous event winner; has raced at least three times previously this season at Britt; and has won a regular season feature there this year. Williamson wins fourth Cottage Grove Modified Nationals crown

By Ben Deatherage COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (June 28) – Jesse Williamson added a career fourth Cottage Grove IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified Nationals trophy to his collection Saturday night. The victory paid $1,520 and came at the end of a 50-lap main event. Jeremy Shank, Nick Trenchard, Kyle Casson and Braedon Hand rounded out the top five in the Pacific Northwest racing jewel. Williamson was in the lead from the start and set a rapid pace but had to negotiate lapped traffic around the lap 17 mark. A lap 21 caution bunched up the field and a mandatory caution stopped the race at halfway. The feature went green the rest of the way with Williamson in front with mounting pressure from contenders behind him as the laps continued to click away. Salute to the king, fireworks on holiday schedule at Phillips County Raceway

HOLYOKE, Colo. – A salute to the king and plenty of fireworks accompany three IMCA series for Thursday, July 3 and Friday, July 4 Mid-Summer Nationals shows at Phillips County Raceway. PCR hosts the Salute to the King farewell tour, with Steve Kinser in Holyoke on opening night. Fireworks follow the Independence Day program. The Precise Racing BST Series for IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds, Addiction Chassis BST Series for IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Leary Racing Products BST Series for Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods are in action both days, along with IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks. All applicable IMCA points will be awarded in all divisions both days. Pit gates and the grandstand open at 3 p.m. both days. Racing starts at 7 p.m. on Thursday and at 5 p.m. on Friday. Program cut short due to rain, double features next two weeks at Independence

By Ryan Clark INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (June 28) – The skies opened at the end of heat race qualifying as heavy rain cut short the mid-season championship program Saturday night at Independence Motor Speedway. With qualifying completed, the program was declared a complete show. Make-up features for the five divisions will be added to the schedule offering race fans double features during the next two weekly racing programs. Next Saturday, July 5, double features will be run in the Performance Bodies IMCA Modified and IMCA Sunoco Stock Car divisions. The make-up features for the IMCA Late Models, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods will be held Saturday, July 12. Only drivers who were signed in to compete June 28 will be allowed to take part in the make-up features. Buy-ins will not be permitted. Petersilie prevails on Salina’s Stand Packer Night

(June 27) – Mike Petersilie became the fourth different Belleville Motorsports IMCA Modified feature winner this season at Salina Speedway, Friday on Stand Packer Night. Brandon Blochlinger took the lead early on the feature and looked to be in command for his first win of 2014 at Salina Speedway while a host of drivers sliced and diced behind him. One of those drivers was Petersilie, who had started ninth and quickly found himself working to the front of the field. He made his move into the lead with two laps left. Blochlinger held on for second, Clay Sellard came in third spot, fourth was Jesse Richter and Joe Clevland raced from 12th starting to fifth. Aaron McBride held off Tommy Fose for the Budweiser IMCA Hobby Stock win, his first this season at Salina. Nate Ginest was impressive as he started in the 7th spot and worked his way to the front and won the M&H Motors IMCA Northern SportMod main event going away.

Humphries glad to be at Dixieland

(June 27) – Tom Humphries took the win at the first of two Virginia Sprint Series visits to Dixieland Speedway Friday night, holding off Jerald Harris and Glenn Worrell. The IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car tour victory was Humphries second straight and third in seven series events so far this season. Charlie Ware and Chris Ware paced the field as the green waved with Charlie Ware taking off bringing Worrell along. The two were glued together until Worrell got by on lap four and Charlie was left to deal with the closing pack. Worrell was leading when a quick yellow waved at halfway with Humphries and Harris right behind. Worrell took off and stayed fast but Humphries was on the attack, chopping high and low lap after lap until he and Harris both got by with six laps to go. Humphries stayed out front with Harris right behind. Worrell, Troy Severin and Anthony Linkenhoker completed the top five. Karcz captures first SpeedZone feature win

OSHKOSH, Wis. (June 27) – Veteran Larry Karcz Jr. made his first-ever visit to victory lane at Oshkosh SpeedZone Raceway Friday night. The Total Power Sales IMCA Stock Cars saw Justin Jacobsen in front on the opening circuit with Karcz, David Hoerning, John Heinz and Dylan Heilmann close behind. The battle was a three-car contest the entire way, with Jacobsen able to deal with the pressure. Karcz went to the high side and retook the runner up spot with five laps remaining and pulled alongside Jacobsen. Karcz was scored as the leader as the white appeared and was able to hang on to collect his first-ever SpeedZone feature win and also his first feature win of the season. Jacobsen finished in second with Heinz third. Marcus Yarie caught John Shultz for the lead following a lap 12 restart and won his second Automotive Supply Company IMCA Modified main event of the season. Steve Schneider won for the fourth time in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods.

Three first-time IMCA winners Friday at Davenport

By Mike McGuire DAVENPORT, Iowa (June 27) – Three IMCA drivers won their first local features of the season Friday at Davenport Speedway. Rob Henry captured his first Milan Heating & Air IMCA Modified feature. The 20-lap race was a classic high side-low side battle. The first half of the race it was Henry on the bottom and Mike Fluegel on the high side. The two drivers exchanged the lead four times in the first eight laps. After a lap nine restart, Fluegel got shuffled back and Joe Beal became the high-side hustler. Beal was able to get past Henry once, but the pass was erased by a caution flag. Henry was first to the checkers, with Beal second and Kelly Meyer third. Chris Zogg finished fourth and Brandon Durbin fifth. Thirty IMCA Modifieds were on hand. LaCrosse scores $2,500 IMCA Modified win at Luxemburg

By Greg Aregoni LUXEMBURG, Wis, (June 27) – Benji LaCrosse has won some big races and championships in his racing career. He added to those already illustrious accomplishments when he grabbed the $2,500 IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified feature win Friday at Luxemburg Speedway. LaCrosse started 20th in the field, drove through traffic and survived a late race scare for the win. Scott Drake, Jason Czarapata, Lance Arneson and Shawn Kilgore completed the top five. Kilgore started up front in the main event and shot ahead of the 26-car field. By lap 10, Kilgore had a lead of about four car lengths on Jeff Taylor. Taylor ran the extreme outside to track down Kilgore and take the lead on lap 12. LaCrosse, meanwhile, was charging through the field and by lap 23 found himself in third. PAIGE, Texas – A fan appreciation night program and two Texas Nationals shows bring the curtain down on IMCA’s Lone Star Series. IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center Southern SportMods and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks are in action Thursday, July 3 at Cotton Bowl Speedway in Paige and Friday and Saturday, July 4 and 5 at Heart O’ Texas Speedway in Waco.
