Trenchard triumphs In round four of Wild West Modified Speedweek

By Ben Deatherage COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (July 24) – The fourth night of the Wild West Modified Speedweek saw a fourth different driver in victory lane. Nick Trenchard got the best of early jockeying for the lead and drove to the $1,000 IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified victory Thursday at Cottage Grove Speedway. The checkers put Trenchard on the ballot for the 2015 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. There were four lead changes in the first four circuits with Trenchard eventually securing the position. Driving for car owners Rich and Nicky Biehn, he established a decent advantage before running into heavy lapped trafdic during a long green flag run. Trenchard made several decisive moves as he cut through the slower traffic while trying to stay in front of the fast company behind immediately him. Tech revelation puts Gaylord on right track for BST checkers

HOLYOKE, Colo. (July 21) – Ryan Gaylord’s journey to victory lane Monday night at Phillips County Raceway got its start two nights before in the tech area at Calhan. “I had been struggling and they found the left side wheelbase was way off at Calhan,” Gaylord explained after his $1,000 IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified feature win in the Precise Racing Products BST show at Holyoke. “That was a blessing in disguise because it really helped us turn the car around.” Gaylord ran seventh at El Paso County Speedway and worked out some kinks with a mid-pack finish Sunday at Thomas County Speedway. Thomas County BST feature win goes to Hansen

COLBY, Kan. (July 20) – A rare visit to a favorite speedplant resulted in a second Precise Racing Products BST win in three nights for John Hansen. Hansen started ninth and was in the lead for good by the 10th circuit in the Sunday night IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified 25-lapper at Thomas County Speedway. The win paid $1,000. “We’ve won a few fair specials here the last couple years. Thomas County is definitely a favorite track, we just don’t get here enough,” Hansen said. “The track was really racy. There was plenty of room to race on the high side and that’s where a lot of the passing was done.” Up to third by lap eight, Hansen took charge after the ensuing restart. Hansen leads flag to flag in Lamar BST

LAMAR, Colo. (July 18) – John Hansen opened with a flag to flag run in the opener of a four-night Precise Racing BST Series trek. The Friday IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified checkers came at Lamar Speedway, paid $1,000 and put Hansen on the ballot for the 2015 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. “We’ve been successful at Lamar before although this time wasn’t as peaceful,” Hansen said following a 25-lapper that saw its share of cautions. “Brady (Coen) pressured me the whole race and pulled alongside a couple times.” Coen, Jeremy Frenier, Eddie Belec and Ryan Gaylord rounded out the top five. Caution opens door for Cordes in XSAN Hawkeye Dirt Tour at Indee

INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (July 24) – The caution that Troy Cordes was hoping for finally came out with eight laps left in Thursday’s XSAN Hawkeye Dirt Tour main event at Independence Motor Speedway. Defending IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified series champion Ronn Lauritzen drew the outside pole start and clearly had the fastest ride through the first 22 circuits. Cordes had taken the opening green from 11th and worked his way steadily to second but was still well off the pace before the fateful yellow flew for a car stopped on the track. The two Independence regulars dueled up front before Cordes finally found his way to the front. The final caution, for a car perched on the backside of turn four, set up a green, white, checkered finish. Cordes pulled ahead to take the checkers a couple car lengths ahead of Lauritzen. Mach-1 signs five-year pact to sponsor IMCA Sport Compacts

ABBOTT, Texas – The company synonymous with IMCA’s Sport Compact division has cemented its title sponsorship status through 2018. Mach-1 Racing of Abbott, Texas, will provide a portion of $1,000 point funds to be paid to top 10 drivers in final national standings for the 4-cylinder class for the next five years. “Owner Gary Mach and Mach-1 have supported this division since the beginning of their sponsorship role with IMCA in 2009 and even more so since becoming title sponsor in 2011,” IMCA Marketing Director Kevin Yoder said. “That support has been instrumental in the growth of the division.” Sport Compact champions will be crowned at more than 40 tracks in nine states this season. Asbe earns first career feature win at I-35

By Greg Grabianowski MASON CITY, Iowa (July 20) – Sunday was a night to remember for Jason Asbe as he captured his first-ever feature win in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock division at I-35 Speedway. Not only had Asbe not finished in the top four in a feature this year, his best finish this summer was 11th and last week, he rolled his No. 9 car at the track. On Sunday, however, with duct tape holding his hood down and hardly a sponsor dotting his rig, he pulled his car into victory lane after the win. It was also a memorable weekend for Kyle Germundson. The Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod driver got married Saturday night and reversed his racing fortune by winning his first feature of the season at I-35 on Sunday. Nielsen is latest Modified winner at Hancock County

By Greg Grabianowski BRITT, Iowa (July 18) – For the 11th time at Hancock County Speedway this summer, there was a different winner in the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified division. Levi Nielsen was the latest winner, coming from outside row four to grab the July 18 victory. Jeremy Mills was second with Clint Hatlestad third, Jimmy Gustin was fourth and Jeff Dolphin rounded out the top five. Larry Portis has had a summer of bad luck but earned his first IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature win of the season. Ben Kraus captured his second Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod checkers of the year, coming from the inside of the fourth row to accomplish the feat. Kyle Ricke also became a two-time winner, in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks. Megan Lappegaard topped the Mach-1 Sport Compacts field to grab her second feature win of the year at Hancock County.

Hughes makes it six straight at Southern Iowa

Steve Allen started the outside front row in the 15-lapper and led early with Danny Thrasher right behind. Allen held off all challenges until the last set of turns when Hughes made his move to the front for his sixth straight and 10th local win of the season. Scott Dickey was the Musco Lighting IMCA Modified winner. Cayden Carter held off Zach VanderBeek for his fourth straight and season-sixth IMCA Sunoco Stock Car victory at Osky. IMCA drivers in five divisions get Flow Design awards

WELLINGTON, Kan. – National point standings for five IMCA divisions determine recipient of product or certificate awards from Flow Design.
