Early entries top 110 for 28th annual IMCA Harris Clash

SPRING VALLEY, Minn. – Early entries are in hand from more than 110 drivers for Tuesday’s Harris Clash. IMCA Modifieds and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods headline the 28th annual event at Deer Creek Speedway on Aug. 6. Thirteen states are represented by the list of pre-registered competitors. Modifieds race for $3,000 to win, plus a $500 bonus if their chassis was built by a Manufacturers’ Cup participant, plus a berth on the 2020 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. Top prize for the Northern SportMods is $1,200. New this year is the 10-lap, $1,000 to win Harris Clash Race of Champions open to all former Clash winners and sponsored by Wehrs Machine and Racing Products. California driver strikes gold on Super Saturday at Boone

By Joyce Eisele BOONE, Iowa (Aug. 3) – Californian Cody Laney collected the IMCA Modified checkers and $1,000 at Boone Speedway’s Super Saturday show, which drew 160 entries in all. Laney led all 20 laps and won going away, earning a spot on the 2020 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. Another Californian, Ethan Dotson, drove his ride from sixth to finish second in the Watermelon Classic headliner. Thor Anderson ran at the front of the field all race and finished third, fourth went to Randy Havlik, and Jeff Aikey finished fifth. Ricky Thornton was the $1,000 TiLUBE Challenge winner earlier in the evening while Richie Gustin pocketed $500 for taking the Second Chance Showdown. Soppe speeds to topless win at Maquoketa

He reformed strategy and still raced to the 30-lap B&D Pit Stop IMCA Northern SportMod topless special win Saturday evening at Maquoketa Speedway. “Obviously the place to be was on the bottom (groove),” Soppe added in Hoker Trucking / C&W Trucking / Kam Koncepts Victory Circle. “We used where we needed to get to the front. The yellows hurt as the car was bogging down at the end. Gansen rolls to Dubuque IMCA Modified win

Matt Gansen raced to the front from his fifth starting position and won his second race in the last three tries at Dubuque Speedway Sunday evening. The Merfeld Brothers Automotive IMCA Modified ace took the non-stop 20-lap affair over early leader Timmy Current, Bryce Garnhart, Jed Freiburger and Jeff Larson. Jason Roth finally got the monkey off his back in the Peosta Warehousing Logistics IMCA Northern SportMod 15-lap finale. After leading the previous three, he kept it on top this night for the win. IMCA Modified stars will shine at Aug. 8-10 Hancock County Speedway specials

BRITT, Iowa – The stars of the IMCA Modified galaxy shine on three consecutive rich nights of racing at Hancock County Speedway. The Night of 1,000 Stars on Thursday, Aug. 8 pays a guaranteed $3,500 to win and $250 to start, plus a bonus of $1,000 to the leader at halfway and another $1,000 if the winner has perfect attendance at Britt this season. Winning the Night of 10,000 Stars on Friday, Aug. 9 pays $7,000, plus $1,000 bonuses to the halfway leader, for perfect attendance and for having won on Thursday as well. Deery win at Donnellson another milestone for Aikey

DONNELLSON, Iowa (Aug. 2) – It had been several years since the last time Lee County Speedway hosted the Deery Brothers Summer Series. It had been even longer since Jeff Aikey drove to victory lane following an IMCA Late Model tour race at Donnellson. Both absences ended Friday night. Aikey finally caught passed race-long leader Andy Eckrich with four circuits left in the 40-lapper, then pulled away to the $2,000 checkers. The victory was his second of the season and series-leading career 70th. Aikey’s one previous Lee County win came in April of 1996. “Andy was tremendous out there,” said Aikey, equally quick to compliment the track prep crew at Donnellson. “And what a race track! Pearish prevails at Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (Aug. 3) – Oronogo’s Bobby Pearish thought he had it easy in The Bad Boy Mowers IMCA Modified main event Saturday at Springfield Raceway, until a lap 18 caution waved putting Arkansas hotshoe Shawn Walsh and Chris Tonoli right on his back bumper. A strong restart kept Pearish on point as he captured his second feature win of the season. Starting sixth on the grid, Pearish wasted no time in going to the front on the fast paced ¼-mile high-banked oval as a surprise Friday evening rain storm really had the track hooked up but still smooth. Most is too much for IMCA Modified Blowout foes at US 36

(Aug. 2) – Every division had an increased payout on the line Friday at US 36 Raceway, but the IMCA Modifieds had the most to fight for with a $1,500 check going home with Josh Most, winner of the Modified Blowout presented by Lent Prints. Clay Hale and Steven Bowers started the race from the front row for the 25-lap race, with Bowers taking the advantage into the opening corner. While Bowers paced the race early, Most began working his way from eighth starting. Most moved through the field by running alternate lines from the rest of the field. Most had moved to third before the yellow flew on lap seven. On the restart, Most advanced to second while Chad Clancy moved into the picture as he took third, after starting 11th. A few laps after the restart, Most and Bowers made contact in turn one. Most let Bowers collect himself before making another attempt at taking the lead away. Clay County, Fairmont dates are next for IMCA Dirt Knights

SPENCER, Iowa (Aug. 2) – IMCA Modifieds will be on the road to Clay County Fair Speedway for round six of the Arnold Motor Supply Dirt Knights Tour. The Monday, Aug. 5 feature pays $1,500 to win and is a qualifying event for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot.
