IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars chase $1,200 check at U.S. 36

OSBORN, Mo. – Between rainouts and special events at U.S. 36 Raceway, a month has passed since the weekly competitors at all competed on the same night.  Friday, June 12, the weekly racers ready to challenge the high banks once again. The IMCA Modi­fieds, IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods are all on lineup.  Pit gates open at 4 p.m. The grandstand opens at 6 p.m., with hot laps at 7:30 p.m. and racing at 8 p.m. Tickets are $15 for general admission, $12 for military and seniors (with ID) and children 12 and younger are free. OSBORN, Mo. – The second annual IMCA Missouri Nationals is set for Oct. 8-10 at US 36 Raceway. The event features the IMCA Modifieds, IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Karl Kus­toms Northern SportMods. The event is also broadcast live on IMCA TV.  Modifieds are racing for $2,000 to win and $200 to start their Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational balloting qualify­ing main event on Saturday. The Friday qualifier pays $400 to win and $100 to start. Sprint Cars also pay $2,000 to win and $200 to start Saturday and $400 to win and $100 to start the qualifier on Fri­day.  Stock Cars pay $1,700 to win the Saturday main event and $100 to start. The Friday qualifier pays $300 to the winner and $80 to start. The SportMods have $1,500 on the line on Saturday and $80 to start. Baumli showed competitors from Missouri, Kansas, Iowa and Nebraska the fast way around the oval in winning US 36 Raceway’s third annual Joe Crist Memorial Shootout for IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars.  Baumli drove away from the field following a restart late in the 30-lapper to pick up the $1,262 winner’s check. Polesitter Thomas Roberts had taken the early lead and paced the first several laps. Baumli worked the bottom of the track before settling into second. After an early caution, Baumli showed his dominance when he perfected the restart and took the lead away from Roberts. Multiple drivers had chances to move around Baumli but his restarts were too strong as the leader put several car lengths between his competitors each time the green flag came back out.  Roberts, Travis Barker and Brad Whitney all had attempts from the second position on restarts and none could figure out how to match Baumli.  Whitney, who started 10th, patiently worked his way to finish second.
