Baca, Hibdon, Rosevear take top checks at Cocopah

SOMERTON, Ariz. (Sept. 25-26) – Two of the young guns in the Shaw Race Cars Western Region raced to notable $1,000 IMCA Modified feature wins at Cocopah Speedway’s season-ending Mike Corning Memorial. Chaz Baca doubled his 2019 win total on opening night, collecting his 16th checkers of the season. Kollin Hibdon, racing closer to home after a summer spent in the Midwest, won for the sixth occasion in his second full season in the division.  Already on the Fast Shafts Al-Star Invitational ballot, Baca started the Friday feature from the pole and led all 22 laps en route to career win number 49. He caught up with the back of the field twice before cautions cleared the way. Hibdon was second and Ryan Roath third. Grabouski is 3-for-4 at Mid-America Clash

SALINA, Kan. (Sept. 25-26) – A driver who had a lot of good nights in 2019 had two more of them to end 2020. Jordan Grabouski swept Friday and Saturday IMCA Modified features at Salina Speedway’s Mid-America Clash, won the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature on Friday and then ran second to Elijah Zevenbergen in the Saturday show. The defending national champion in both divisions, Grabouski has followed a more limited sched­ule this year. Some tinkering before hitting the track helped bring back some of that last season’s magic. “We had a couple pretty good nights there with the Modified. I’ll take them,” Grabouski said follow­ing the $1,550 and $1,500 to win Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifiers. “We have struggled a little bit so we tried some different things setup wise. Who’s who in California IMCA racing at Ocean as Hogge wins career fifth Pettit

WATSONVILLE, Iowa (Sept. 25-26) – Bobby Hogge IV stood in victory lane at Ocean Speedway after the IMCA Modified finish that had everybody talking. Hogge chased race-long leader Troy Foulger, then made his last-lap move to the front on the higher line for the $3,006 checkers on night two of the Pettit Shootout at Watsonville. The Pettit win was Hogge’s fifth in the 10 years the special, one of the premier events in IMCA’s Shaw Race Cars Western Region, has been held. “Any time you get a win it’s special and we had almost the whole who’s who in California racing was here this weekend,” the Salinas veteran said, noting the 60-plus IMCA Modifieds and 50-plus Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods entered in the season-ending special. “Ocean is my home track. It’s 25 miles from my doorstep and I’ve raced with the Pettit family for a long time.”  Foulger had led the first 32 laps after starting outside pole. Belec best in Modifieds, Tubbs tops Stocks at Sherman Co.’s IMCA Flatlander Classic

GOODLAND, Kan. (Sept. 26) – Eddie Belec got the monkey off his back, Jeff Tubbs got to the track on time and both got paid $1,500 for their Saturday IMCA feature wins at Sherman County Speedway’s Flatlander Classic. Belec led all 20 laps in the IMCA Modified main, outrunning cousin Dominic Ursetta and Greg Gustus. His Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying win was his IMCA first since July of 19. “It had been a little while since I won at Goodland. It had been a little while since I won, period,” Belec said. You never know when you’re going to win again. Allstar Performance gift cards going to IMCA drivers with 10 or more heat wins

WATERVLIET, Mich. – For a third consecutive season, Allstar Performance will recognize heat race by IMCA drivers in all divisions.  Drivers who won 10 or more heat races at sanctioned events in 2020 and who provide photos providing proof of heat race winner decal placement receive $100 gift cards from the Watervliet, Mich., high performance manufacturer.  The driver with the most heat wins receives a $250 gift card.  Photos should be directed to Marketing Director Kevin Yoder at kyoder@imca.com. Deadline for doing so is Friday, Nov. 20. Gift certificates will be mailed from the IMCA home office beginning in early December. Ramsey Meyer had the top heat win total last year. “Allstar Performance has been title sponsor for the heat winner decal program for three years and it has become deservedly popular in that time,” noted IMCA Marketing Director Kevin Yoder. “Winning 10 heat races in a season is an accomplishment that Allstar Performance continues to reward. IMCA wins at 49th Stampede go to Arneson, Strand, Pavlicek, Medler

JAMESTOWN, N.D. (Sept. 25-26) – Winning the most prestigious race in North Dakota? Awesome. Getting to see your name on the T-shirt they’ll sell next September at the big Jamestown Speedway special? Almost as good. Austin Arneson added to his Stock Car Stampede trophy collection while Shawn Strand, Rich Pavlicek and Darren Medler all started theirs with feature wins at the 49th annual event. Arneson topped Friday’s $1,500 to win IMCA Modified feature and Strand joined him on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot with Saturday’s $2,000 checkers. Pavlicek and Medler both earned $1,000 for Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod victories.  Fifty-five Modifieds vied both nights. HAYS, Kan. – RPM Speedway puts the wraps on 2020 with its rich Fall Nationals presented by Nutrien Ag Solutions special Friday and Sat­urday, Oct. 2 and 3, topped by the $5,000 to win main event for IMCA Modifieds. The Saturday feature is a 2021 Fast Shafts All-Star In­vitational ballot qualifier and pays $2,500 for se­cond, $1,500 for third and $1,000 for fourth with a mini­mum of $400 paid to start. Awesome, exhilarating Wild West Tour wins for Delp, Hale at Desert Thunder

PRICE, Utah (Sept. 25-26) – Two IMCA Modified drivers saw droughts come to an end during the fi­nal 1st Class Chassis Wild West Tour twinbill of the season at Desert Thunder Raceway.  Casey Delp led every lap of the Friday show, scoring his career second tour win and first in 16 series starts. On Saturday, Michael Hale raced to a career fourth tour checkers and first in 19 WWMT starts.  Both drivers put their names on the 2021 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot with their $1,200 victories. “It was a huge win for me. PASS ends season at Lincoln Speedway, Selinsgrove

By Frank Buhrman ABBOTTSTOWN, Pa. – The Pennsylvania Sprint Series will run its final two-race weekend of the season this Friday and Saturday, at Lincoln Speedway and Selinsgrove Speedway. This also is the final weekend for 2020 points.  On Friday night, the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car series will be part of the program at Lincoln. Early registration has indicated a likely field of well over 30 RaceSaver teams. Pit gates open at 5:30 p.m., with hot laps at 6:30 p.m. and racing at 7:30 p.m. General admission for the evening is $10 for adults and pit passes are $30.  On Saturday, PASS is at Selinsgrove, where division sponsor Apache Tree Service has put up $200 for the hard charger award. Gates open at 4:30 p.m. with racing getting underway at p.m. Adult general admission is $30 and $15 for youth ages 12-17. Reserved seats cost an additional $2.
