Nominations sought for honorary starters on Sept. 11

BOONE, Iowa – The three honorary starters for Sept. 11 Modified last-chance races during the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s will be chosen to represent the many American heroes who put their own lives on the line.  

IMCA fans and drivers are asked to submit nominations of military and law enforcement personnel, firefighters and First Responders to wave the green flag for the start of those Saturday afternoon events at Boone Speedway.

Letters or emails of nomination should be 500 words or less and tell about the nominee and their service to country and community. Nominations should be directed to IMCA Marketing Director Kevin Yoder at kyoder@imca.com.

“9/11 also marks the 15th anniversary of the founding of Hope For The Warriors and officials from that organization will be on hand that day,” Yoder said. “The honorary starter program has been super popular since it was started and remains one of the highlights of the week.” 

For the ninth consecutive year, Super Nationals presenting sponsor Casey’s General Store gives $10 and IMCA matches that donation for each heat win during the week at Boone. Honorary starters will help present the proceeds to Hope For The Warriors officials during the Saturday program. 

Donations by Casey’s and IMCA to Hope For The Warriors since 2013 total $40,000.

Watermelon Classic set for Saturday at Boone Speedway

BOONE, Iowa – IMCA Modified drivers have two chances to win $1,000 at Saturday’s Watermelon Classic at Boone Speedway. Along with the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot-qualifying feature on Aug. 1, there’s $1,000 at stake in the 12-car P1 Promotions Modified Challenge. That field will be determined by group time trials and passing points, with the winner receiving a unique trophy from Legends Custom Decals, the high point driver receiving a wrap from Capital and the fast time driver getting a drive shaft from Dynamic Drivelines. IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars race for $1,000 to win their feature, with IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods both racing for $500 to win.  The event is draw/redraw, heat winners get watermelons and different position bonuses and incentives will be given. Hot laps are at 6 p.m. and racing starts at 7 p.m. Spectator admission is $20 for adults, $5 for students ages 13-17 and free for kids ages 12 and under.  The Watermelon Classic will be broadcast by IMCA.TV.

Deadline is tomorrow noon to register early for Super Nationals

BOONE, Iowa – The clock is ticking for drivers still planning to register early for the Sept. 2-7 IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s. Those who do so by noon on Thursday, Aug. 29 pay entries fees of $40 for Modi­fieds, $25 for Stock Cars, Hobby Stocks and Northern SportMods and $15 for Sport Compacts, and make themselves eligible for Weekly Racing Bonuses in their respective divisions. Modified, Stock Car, Hobby Stock and Northern SportMod drivers are also required to pre-regis­ter to reserve pit stalls and to compete in the Aug. 31 Prelude at Boone Speedway. More than 700 drivers have now completed the online registration process for Super Nationals.
