Championship chase continues Saturday at Dodge City

By Lonnie Wheatley DODGE CITY, Kan. – Heated championship chase action continues Saturday, May 10 at Dodge City Raceway Park for the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds, IMCA SportMods and IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars. Ryan Heger worked his way up to his second third-place finish in three events this past weekend to move atop the Modified point charts with a 24-point advantage over Cole Traugott. Kale Beavers, Mike Lunow and Kevin Gray round out the current top five in the championship points chase as three different drivers (Van Gemmill, Clay Sellard and Joel Lane) have reached victory lane in as many events thus far in 2014. Jeff Kaup posted his second runner-up finish this past weekend to go along with a win the previous time out, extending his SportMod points lead to 53 markers over Jason Lunow with Austin Walker, Toby Witthuhn and Randle McRoberts in the top five. Clash at the Creek pre-entry is open

FRANCIS CREEK, Wis. –Wednesday and Thursday, June 25 and 26 mark the dates of 141 Speedway’s sixth annual Clash at the Creek. Sunset Speedway Park opens with The Iron Woman 50 and Ladies Night

By Ben Deatherage BANKS, Ore. – Sunset Speedway Park looks to get its first race of 2014 in the books this Saturday, May 10. Not only will it be the first race of the new campaign but it will be Ladies Night and all female spectators get into the races for only $5. Classes in action for that evening will include the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds, Pure Stocks, Dwarf Cars, and the Women’s division. It will also be a special event for the Women’s classification as they will participate in the Iron Woman 50. Pit gates open at 2 p.m., the front gates open at 3:30 p.m. and racing starts at 6 p.m. Tickets are adults $12, seniors, military and juniors (ages 13-17) $10, kids (ages 6-12) $5 and children five and under are free. Shawano Speedway preps for Saturday opener

SHAWANO, Wis. – After Mother Nature hit us with her best shot, Shawano Speedway is finally kicking off its season this weekend, May 9 and 10. On Friday, tech inspection for late models and 4-cylinders begins at 3 p.m. behind the grandstands. Drivers can pit inside if they prefer. Safety checks (belts, helmets, etc.) only will be done for IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods. Practice starts at 5:30 p.m. The session continues as long as enough cars are on the track. Cost is $10 per car. There is no charge for spectators. Concessions, including pizza, popcorn and beverages, will be sold. Tech inspection for the three IMCA divisions starts at 3 p.m. Saturday. Hot laps are at 6 p.m. and racing starts at 6:30 p.m. Spectator elimination races are also on the program. The track will be worked all week and the Long Haul Fan Award goes to a family making a five-hour drive for practice on Friday and racing on Saturday.

Canyon Speedway Park set for Mother’s Day Race for the Cure

Following an open practice session tonight (Wednesday) from 6-9 p.m., the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds headline Saturday’s event atop the 1/3-mile clay oval that also includes X-Modifieds, Pure Stocks, Renegades, Dwarf Cars and Lady Stocks. Season opener is Sunday for Thomas County Speedway

By John Schmidt COLBY, Kan. – The long wait for the 2014 race season at Thomas County Speedway is just about over as action resumes this Sunday, May 11 at 7 p.m. Just like last season, several improvements have been made to the track as well as the grandstands. Another change is the return of the wild and crazy cruisers. With the help of Bernie Meyer at Murfin Drilling and several others, the table top in turns three and four has been removed. The wall was moved back a couple feet, then the track was graded the rest of the way to the wall. This widened turns three and four by about eight feet. Also, the wall was pointed down at an angle so it will help push the cars back on the track instead of creating a ramp. Lane lands career first IMCA Modified win at DCRP

By Lonnie Wheatley DODGE CITY, Kan. (May 3) – Joel Lane scored his first career IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified feature win Saturday at Dodge City Raceway Park. Lane took advantage of his pole starting position, outdueling Kevin Gray for the point in the early rounds and then holding off a late charge from Mike Petersilie over the closing rounds to secure the victory. Petersilie had battled through a pack of contenders before taking over second on the 14th round. He closed in on Lane and was nearly within striking distance as the white flag flew but Lane held strong on the final round for the victory. In IMCA SportMod action, Michael Shenberger made it two wins in as many DCRP visits this season by racing into the lead on the 10th round en route to victory lane in the 20-lapper.
