Opening night postponed at Shawano

SHAWANO, Wis. (May 2) – Due to saturated grounds, Shawano Speedway has pushed its opener back one week. Shawano will hold an open practice session Friday, May 9 beginning at 6 p.m. and the 2014 racing season will kick off Saturday, May 10 at 6:30 p.m. Sanctioned divisions running at Shawano this season are the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods.

Sobbing, Murray capture IMCA Modified checkers at RPM Sunflower Classic

(March 28-29) – More than 160 race teams from eight states made the trip to RPM Speedway for the season-opening Sunflower Classic and Jesse Sobbing and David Murray Jr. drove home with the biggest checks. Each earned $1,000 for their IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified feature wins at Hays. Both were already qualified for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. In Friday’s opener, Jeremy Frenier started outside pole and stayed in front to lap 16, when Sob­bing got underneath coming out of turn four to take a lead he would not relinquish. Lapped traffic came into play but Sobbing held off Murray, who finished inches ahead of Cody Gearhart for se­cond. Frenier and Jeff Hunter rounded out the top five. IMCA drivers in five divisions chase Performance Distributors prizes

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (March 18) – Drivers in five IMCA divisions are in the running for contingencies from Performance Dis­tributors again this season. Product awards and product certificates go to eligible competitors in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod, Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center Southern SportMod and Mach-1 Sport Compact divisions. Top eligible drivers in each Stock Car and Hobby Stock region, and in national standings for the Northern SportMods and Southern SportMods all receive DUI distribu­tors. Second-place drivers each get $100 product certificates, with $75 for third, $50 for fourth and $25 for fifth. Both the Sport Compact national champion and national rookie of the year receive Dyna-Batt batteries. Se­cond through fifth place finishers in national standings for the 4-cylinder class all get $50 product certificates. Practice sessions return to Willamette Speedway

(March 4) – For years, Friday nights at Willamette Speedway mostly meant a chance for drivers to shake down their car before the big race on Saturday, to fine tune their machines and troubleshoot any hiccups their mounts were giving them. Open practices are back on select dates at the historic 1/3-mile clay oval in 2014 after a couple years’ hiatus. “After not having practices for the last couple years, drivers started giving us feedback,” commented Track Manager Chris Nofziger. “They told us that they felt they would be more competitive if there was a night or two during the year where they could come out and just figure stuff out.
