Huls, Gower and Becerra are quickest at Quincy

By Jack Walbring QUINCY, Ill. (April 20) – Abe Huls, Joey Gower and Austen Becerra all took IMCA feature event wins Sunday at Quincy Raceway. Huls started off his 2014 season the right way by leading every lap of the Powder Coat Plus IMCA Stock Car main event. Huls was challenged by Jim Lynch the entire distance but held off the Iowa speedster to take the win followed by Lynch in second, Jerry Jansen in third, Jake Powers in fourth and Brandon Savage in fifth. Gower showed he is going to be a power to be reckoned with in the Summy Tire and Auto Center IMCA Northern SportMod division. Gower blasted to a four and a half second win over Tony Dunker in the main event followed by Bobby Anders in third, Aaron Brockseick in fourth and Charles VanZandt in fifth. Practice, opening night rescheduled at Thunderhill Raceway

By Edward Anschutz STURGEON BAY, Wis. – With weather conditions being less than favorable, Thunderhill Raceway has been forced reschedule its planned practice session for April 29 while the season opener has been postponed to May 3. “While we want to get the 2014 season rolling, the biggest emphasis will be put on taking care of the drivers and their race cars,“ promoter Woody Wodack said. “We refuse to tear up equipment or the track just to get opening night in the books.” “The goal will to be to give drivers and race fans the best show possible,” he continued. “Mother Nature has played havoc in recent weeks so we are hoping for some sunshine and dry weather.” A second practice is also in the works. Five divisions do battle every Saturday night through the summer. Willamette battle goes to Yeack

By Ben Deatherage LEBANON, Ore. (April 19) – A lengthy side-by-side tussle at Willamette Speedway ended with Kyle Yeack in victory lane. In the Wirth Wireless IMCA Modified main event, Matt Mitchell was ultra-quick. The Vancouver, Wash., native had a perfect night headed into the feature and was eligible for a clean sweep. It wouldn’t take long for Mitchell to take possession of the lead as he was dominant but soon would be threatened by another driver. That other driver was Crawfordsville’s Yeack. who started to challenge for the top spot with just 10 laps to go. Mitchell and Yeack battled side-by-side for several laps before Yeack secured the position with just five laps remaining. The three-time Willamette champion went on to win the feature in the first Wirth Wireless IMCA Modified main event of the season.

Davenport Speedway season opener set for Friday

DAVENPORT, Iowa – The chase for the 2014 track championships at the Davenport Speedway will begin with the Koehler Electric season opener this Friday, April 25. All five weekly classes, Petersen Plumbing & Heating IMCA Late Models, EMS IMCA Modifieds, Koehler Electric Street Stocks, Hawkeye Auto IMCA SportMods, and Roto-Rooter 4-Stocks, will see action on the quarter-mile dirt oval. Davenport Speedway is located at the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds, on West Locust Street. Ward leads wire to wire at Crystal opener

CRYSTAL, Mich. (April 19) – Ionia’s A.J. Ward roasted the opening night competition with a wire to wire win in the Port City Racecars IMCA Modified class Saturday at Crystal Motor Speedway. Ward jumped to the lead and just walked away without challenge from those behind him, Rusty Ziegler, Myron DeYoung, Vern Buskirk and Jimmy Hale Jr. Two “B” mains were required to fill the feature field. Myron DeYoung took the first with Cory Rusink, Brenton DeYoung and Chris Dietrich transferring with him. The second “B” gave a lift up to the feature for Brady Hollenbeck, Kenny Playter, Austin Wonch and Tyson Minier. Minier was last year’s Flinn Stock champion and his first-ever appearance in the Modified feature proves he has a great future at CMS.

Shawano postpones opening night to May 3

SHAWANO, Wis. – Due to wet track conditions and forecasts calling for more precipitation and low temperatures, Shawano Speedway has postponed opening night from this Saturday, April 26 to May 3.
