Crystal checkers fly for Wernette

By Verwayne Greenhoe CRYSTAL, Mich. (April 26) – The Port City Racecar IMCA Modifieds saw Chad Wernette bring home his first win of the 2014 season Saturday at Crystal Motor Speedway. A.J. Ward, Jerry Hunt, Robert Putt and Jimmy Hale, Jr. rounded out the top five. Austin Wonch and Mike Shanteau took home “B” feature wins with heats falling to John DeYoung Jr., Wernette, and Hunt.

Three first-time winners top opening night at Independence

INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (April 26) – Of the 103 drivers signed in for opening night, three who had never previously won at Independence Motor Speedway ended the evening in victory lane. Joel Callahan redrew the pole position for the 25-lap IMCA Late Model feature and quickly pulled away from the field when the green flag waved. Callahan maintained a straightaway lead over his nearest pursuer despite heavy lapped traffic. Callahan’s lead disappeared when a lap 21 caution flag bunched the field and placed Tyler Bruening on his rear bumper for the ensuing restart. Callahan pulled away when racing resumed, notching his first win on the Independence oval. Bruening finished second ahead of Drew Johnson. P.J. Egbert is fastest in Cotton Bowl Modified main

Egbert added another win to his impressive resume, grabbing the 20-lap IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified victory Saturday at Cotton Bowl Speedway. Egbert, who charged from his row five starting spot, took over the point from Chase Glick near halfway, then held off Brad Smith in latter stages to get his first win of the season. Whether driving his own car or the Skip Gray-owned Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center Southern SportMod, J.J. Jennings has Cotton Bowl Speedway figured out. He gave the rest of the 24-car field all it could handle after getting past Jarrett Roberts, who lead the first few circuits. Once out front Jennings easily outran the competition on every restart building nearly a full straightaway advantage over Kevin Green, Talon Minten and Don Painter at the finish. 141, Luxemburg announce Two Track Challenge Series

By Greg Aregoni LUXEMBURG, Wis. – Luxemburg Speedway and 141 Speedway are excited to announce a partnership with the Two Track Challenge Series . This championship will be based on the combined points of both tracks. The IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods will be the participating divisions. The 2014 series will be split into two sessions. The first session will end halfway through the season on June 14. The second session will end on Aug. 29. “We thought this would be a great way to help drivers who already race both tracks. This will give them a little extra to shoot for. This will be a great for fans to keep an eye on both track’s point standings,” said Gene Mathu, promoter at Luxemburg. Electric City postpones Spring Roundup to May 2-3

GREAT FALLS, Mont. (April 24) – Electric City Speedway has postponed its season-opening Mon­tana Spring Roundup to next Friday and Saturday, May 2-3. IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds run for $500 to win and a minimum of $75 to start in their first appearances in Montana since the mid-1990s. An open practice starts at 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 1. The Spring Roundup was originally scheduled for this weekend and no change was been made in race day times: Pit gates at Great Falls open at 5 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 6 p.m. Hot laps are at 7 p.m. and racing starts at 7:30 p.m. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Larry Shaw Racing Western Region, Allstar Performance State and local track points will be awarded. Salina Speedway is one of those tracks that spent the off-season working hard to make racing experience better for both the racers and the fans. Anderson is best in Modified main at Britt

By Greg Grabianowski BRITT, Iowa (April 18) – Jamie Anderson led flag to flag in winning Friday’s IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified feature at Hancock County Speedway. Troy Swearingen was the runner-up while Clayton Christensen took third in the 22-car field. Dustin Larson also raced from the pole to the checkers, in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature. He was followed by Lance Deal and Derek Green. Chanse Hollatz topped the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature. Cody Nielsen finished second after starting 12th with Brandon Nielsen taking third. Shane Swanson overtook early leader Cody Knecht to earn the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod victory. Bob Sutherland was the runner-up with Matt Hoeft placing third. The newly-sanctioned Mach-1 Sport Compact division had 10 cars and Ryan Bryant came through the field from his inside fourth row starting to be both the hard charger and feature winner. Foulger outduels Dozier for Antioch honors

ANTIOCH, Calif. (April 19) – Four-time track champion Troy Foulger scored his first victory of the 2014 season Saturday night at Antioch Speedway, after battling Danny Dozier in the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified main event. Dozier quickly moved through the pack, fighting off challenges from Carl Berendsen. Foulger and Dozier then fought side-by-side, with Dozier taking the lead on a restart with five laps to go. “I thought the top of the track was faster, and he (Dozier) got me by staying low on the inside,” Foulger explained in victory lane. “He (Dozier) was racing great. Huls, Gower and Becerra are quickest at Quincy

By Jack Walbring QUINCY, Ill. (April 20) – Abe Huls, Joey Gower and Austen Becerra all took IMCA feature event wins Sunday at Quincy Raceway. Huls started off his 2014 season the right way by leading every lap of the Powder Coat Plus IMCA Stock Car main event. Huls was challenged by Jim Lynch the entire distance but held off the Iowa speedster to take the win followed by Lynch in second, Jerry Jansen in third, Jake Powers in fourth and Brandon Savage in fifth. Gower showed he is going to be a power to be reckoned with in the Summy Tire and Auto Center IMCA Northern SportMod division. Practice, opening night rescheduled at Thunderhill Raceway

By Edward Anschutz STURGEON BAY, Wis. – With weather conditions being less than favorable, Thunderhill Raceway has been forced reschedule its planned practice session for April 29 while the season opener has been postponed to May 3. “While we want to get the 2014 season rolling, the biggest emphasis will be put on taking care of the drivers and their race cars,“ promoter Woody Wodack said. “We refuse to tear up equipment or the track just to get opening night in the books.” “The goal will to be to give drivers and race fans the best show possible,” he continued. “Mother Nature has played havoc in recent weeks so we are hoping for some sunshine and dry weather.” A second practice is also in the works.
