Five Fast Fridays in May at the Davenport Speedway

DAVENPORT, Iowa – Davenport Speedway will be celebrating its own version of Cinco de Mayo this year, with five Fridays of exciting stock car racing action during the month of May. In addition to the weekly racing program on May 2, we will have Powder Puff races as an added attraction. It’s always an entertaining evening when we give the mothers, daughters, wives, girlfriends, sisters, aunts, nieces and cousins a chance to get behind the wheel of the race cars. Along with weekly point racing for IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods, Street Stocks and 4-Stocks on Friday, May 9, the cars and stars of the Lucas Oil MLRA Racing Series will do battle on the high-banked 1/4-mile oval. Plenty of variety to May events at Dodge City

By Lonnie Wheatley DODGE CITY, Kan. – With the opening two nights of action in the books at Dodge City Raceway Park, attention shifts to the variety of events slated for the approaching month of May. The state-of-the-art facility in southwest Kansas offers up a little something for everybody in May with Late Models and Sprint Cars taking to the 3/8-mile clay oval along with the track’s always exciting championship chase divisions. Championship point action for the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds, IMCA SportMods and IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars on May 3 will be complemented by the first Late Model event at DCRP since the 2011 season as the MARS DIRTcar Series squares off with the forces of the NCRA Late Model series. Red, White & Blue Series starts Saturday at 141 Speedway

FRANCIS CREEK, Wis. – The first of three $1,000 to win Gandrud Chevrolet Red, White and Blue Series events for IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds is this Saturday, May 3 at 141 Speedway. A minimum of $120 will be paid to start the feature, which is a 2014 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier. The series continues July 5 and Aug. 9. The top driver in overall points from the three RW&B shows receives a 604 crate engine from Gandrud Chevrolet of Green Bay. Other sponsors adding to the $10,000-plus in contingency awards to be given to top 10 drivers in series point standings are Arneson Shock Service, BSB Manufacturing, Fast Shafts and Manitowoc Motor and Machine. Pit gates at Francis Creek open at 2 p.m., the grandstand at 4 p.m. and racing starts at 6 p.m. Pit passes are $25 and there is no entry fee. Rothzen wins for Chad

By Dana Royer WEST BURLINGTON, Iowa (April 26) – Brandon Rothzen has dedicated this season to “Fighting for the Win For Chad” in the Ryners Transportation IMCA Modified division. And Saturday night at 34 Raceway, Rothzen picked up his second win in two nights for his friend and crew member Chad Gall, who is battling leukemia. Gall underwent a stem cell transplant nearly three weeks ago and what better boost to than a feature win by his buddy Brandon. Rothzen took the lead on lap nine in the 20-lap feature when Tyler Glass went off the track and brought out the caution. Rothzen went on to take the checkered flag followed by Dennis LaVeine, Mitch Morris and Jerrod Fuller rounding out the top four. Brandon’s wife Ally brought out the iPad to use Facetime with Chad during the winners pictures. Also picking up IMCA wins Saturday were Tommy Bowling and Sean Wyett. Frye, Armstrong, Tubbs repeat at RPM Speedway

By Mike Hughes HAYS, Kan. (April 26) – RPM Speedway returned to action Saturday night with three drivers making repeat appearances in victory lane. Tyler Frye won his third Karl Chevrolet Northern Sport Mod feature in a very competitive 20-lap A-main. Jake Krone and Trenton Kleweno both did time up front before Frye resumed command on lap 13 and held on for a trip to the winner’s circle. Adam Armstrong started 12th and took the lead from Trevor Schmidt on lap 12 and led to the end of the 20-lap IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature. Jeff Tubbs won his second IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature in what became a very competitive race with Nick Tubbs and B.J. Wagoner. Jason Schoenberger of Russell led all 20 laps to score the win in the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified feature. Jeff Tubbs doubles up at WaKeeney Speedway

By Mike Hughes WaKEENEY, Kan. (April 27) – Jeff Tubbs visited the Jason Oil winner’s circle twice Sunday evening, April 27, at Wakeeney Speedway. The IMCA Sunoco Stock Car and IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified divisions ran two features from a rain shortened program on April 6. In the makeup Stock Car feature, Shannon Maughlin took the early lead, trailed by Michael Meyer, Eric Kinderknecht and Tubbs. But on lap eight, Tubbs took a lead he would not relinquish en route to the win. In the night’s regular feature, Jason Davis got out front at the drop of the green, followed by Maughlin and Kinderknecht. Maughlin passed Davis on the following lap, and led through lap 9 as Tubbs took the lead at the halfway mark. Maughlin regained the lead on lap 14 and looked to be on his way to a win, but Tubbs made a late race move to score his second win of the night and third of the weekend after winning at RPM Speedway on Saturday. King reigns over Eagle Sport Compacts

By Greg Soukup EAGLE, Neb. (April 26) – James King became a first-time winner in Saturday’s photo finish Sam’s Club IMCA Sport Compact main event at Eagle Raceway. King had assumed the lead when Kurt Beckstrom exited with a flat tire on lap seven. Matt Moyer took over second with two laps left but came up just short in his bid to catch King. Inching closer to the 100 career win mark, Jordan Grabouski led start to finish in the Kaplan University IMCA Modified headliner. Jason Martin got his second Mud In America IMCA Eagle Motorsports RaceSaver Sprint Car victory in as many local starts this season. R.J. Macku led all but the opening lap in winning the Valentino’s IMCA Hobby Stock feature. Jason Harms parlayed a restart into the lead and eventual victory in the NAPA IMCA SportMod main.

Sanctioned Stock Cars return to Oshkosh

OSHKOSH, Wis. (April 25) – Opening night brought the Total Power Sales IMCA Stock Cars back to Oshkosh SpeedZone Raceway for the first time since the 2000 season and put 14 cars on the feature grid. Rod Snellenberger started on the pole and quickly pulled into the lead. Justin Jacobsen, David Hoerning, Travis Van Straten and John Heinz were grouped behind. Several cautions bunched the field around mid-race but each time Snellenberger was able to maintain the lead. A final restart with six laps remaining gave Heinz a shot at the lead as he moved into the runner-up spot and right behind the leader. The perennial rivals put on a great battle with Snellenberger able to hold on to collect the opening checkers with Heinz right behind. Sellard scores big on opening night at Salina

By Larry Lowrey Jr. SALINA, Kan. (April 25) – Heavy hitters filled the BMS IMCA Modified field on opening night at Salina Speedway and the fastest of them proved to be Clay Sellard. Pole starter Corey Lagroon gave chase but in the end it was Sellard notching the win. Lyle Shepard got the best of Danny Morrison in the battle for third. A whopping 25 cars showed up to shoot it out in the M&H Motors IMCA Northern SportMod division. Some of the toughest racers in IMCA come from this division and it’s no surprise that there was a lot of passing in this feature. Austin Carter held off the competition and got the win. Daniel Gottschalk and Tyler Frye were dicing through the field as they started 11th and 10th on the field respectively. Michehl wins Hobby Stock thriller at Hamilton County

By Jeremy Fox WEBSTER CITY, Iowa (April 26) – Myles Michehl debuted a new car and won a thriller in the Casady Brothers Implement IMCA Hobby Stock 15-lap feature on opening night Saturday at Hamilton County Speedway. Michel worked his way up from seventh starting to challenge Randy Embrey and finally gained the lead on lap 11. He went on to take the win while Craig Graham worked his way by Embrey late in the race to finish second with Embrey in third. Mundt and Roe finish fourth and fifth respectively. The Chalfant Plumbing and Neighbors Heating and Cooling IMCA Late Model 20-lap feature saw Darrel DeFrance and Curt Schroeder on the front row. The initial start was called off but on the restart it was DeFrance grabbing the lead. DeFrance never looked back as he cruised on to the easy win. Schroeder finish second.
