DeVilbiss doubles up at Cortez while BSR SportMod wins go to Eddleman, Higgins

CORTEZ, Colo. (June 20-21) – Another Border States Racing Series doubleheader resulted in another sweep for IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified driver Zane DeVilbiss. Jordan Eddleman and Rex Higgins, meanwhile, became the fourth and fifth IMCA SportMod drivers to end their night in victory lane when the tour traveled to Fairgrounds Speedway. With a pair of wins from the series’ opening twinbill already to his credit, DeVilbiss raced from ninth starting on Friday and from eighth starting Saturday to take the checkers at Cortez. He used all lines on the multi-groove oval to take the lead on the 10th of 30 circuits on Friday. Aaron Spangler and Eddie Farley were next across the stripe. DeVilbiss needed 21 times around the track to reel in brother Shane and Wyatt Howard. Brody Spangler caught Howard for second in the late going. Tulp, Swanson each win third Hancock County features

By Greg Grabianowski BRITT, Iowa (June 20) – Heath Tulp and Shane Swanson each won their third feature of the season Friday at Hancock County Speedway while Keith Schmitz and Ken Winkowitsch were first-time winners. Tulp came from the outside of the fifth row in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car main event. Dan Hanselman had a nice run to take second with Craig Berhow third, Blake Cole fourth and David Wickman fifth. The scenario in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods was the same as Swanson also came from outside the fifth row. Anthony Condit had his best run of the year to take second with Aaron Benson, Nate Chodur and Nate Hughes completing the top five. Schmitz returned to the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified winner’s circle at Britt as he started from the pole. Another veteran driver, Mark Noble, was the runner-up and Ryan Ruter was third. Inaugural Thunderhill Raceway Hall of Fame induction is June 28

By Edward Anschutz STURGEON BAY, Wis. – Race fans, old timers and historians this is a night you want to attend as Thunderhill Raceway will induct the first seven members into its Hall of Fame. The inaugural Class of 2014 will be inducted this Saturday, June 28. Hall of Famers are Clyde LeMieux Sr., Irv Ettien, Les Sternard, Dale Knudson, Joe Haferkorn, Butch Georgenson and Fritz VanDuyse. The program is sponsored by Wicked Witch Enterprises. Tom Wagner is hosting the night’s events and will be calling the action on the track as well. Five divisions do battle Saturday, the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and the Street Stocks. The bounty for anyone who can beat Bill LeMieux in the Street Stocks now stands at $400. The only rules to the bounty are that LeMieux must finish and it must be clean race. Racing gets underway at 6 p.m. Adult admission is $10 at the front gate.

Bruns sails to Voss Memorial feature win

ARLINGTON, Minn. (June 21) – After they drained the track, Shaun Bruns left the rest of Saturday’s IMCA Sunoco Stock Car field at Arlington Raceway in his wake. Bruns pocketed what turned out to be $1,700 for winning the inaugural Joe Voss Memorial after starting third, going to the bottom to pass front row starters Matthew Schauer and Dan Mackenthun coming out of turn two and leading all 20 laps. He pulled away from the pack following restarts on laps eight and 13. Mackenthun closed while Bruns battled handling issues but ran out of time and had to settle for second. Elijah Zevenbergen, Derek Green and Schauer completed the top five. “They did a great job getting the track ready,” Bruns said. “They pulled an all-nighter pumping water off so we could race.” Feature results – 1. Myron DeYoung paces Crystal Modifieds

CRYSTAL, Mich. (June 21) – Myron DeYoung raced to his first win of the season in the final event of the night Saturday at Crystal Motor Speedway. Brad Stanke shot out front of the Port City Race Car IMCA Modified feature with Brody Bowser and Chad Wernette in tow. Bowser took the lead away as DeYoung and A.J. Ward moved into the top five. DeYoung wrestled with Bowser for several laps before finally taking the lead. As DeYoung pulled away, Bowser and Ward battled for second with Wernette just behind them. Brennen DeYoung got loose as he entered turn one and several cars were 1nvolved with most able to continue back under green, Myron DeYoung led Bowser, Ward, and Wernette as he slowly stretched his lead out. DeYoung went on to IMCA career win number 93 over Mike Shanteau and Kenny Playter.

Money cashes in at Salina

By Larry Lowrey Jr. SALINA, Kan. (June 20) – Some nights you’ve got it and Friday night Clay Money had it in the M&H Motors IMCA Northern SportMod feature at Salina Speedway. Starting from the fifth row, Money knew it would be tough to get to the front of the field but it wouldn’t be impossible. Money has had some strong finishes this season at Salina but victory lane had eluded him so far in 2014. Jacob Crowell and Chris Humphries led the field to the green. Money was quickly clicking them off one by one until he hit the front of the pack. Once at the front he would not be denied, racing to his first win at Salina in 2014. Point leader Austin Carter finished second after starting 11th and Daniel Gottschalk went from 10th to third. Clay Sellard picked up the opening night win in the Belleville Motorsports IMCA Modified class at Salina. Since then he has been strong, but he hasn’t been back to victory lane. Willamette mid-season championship night honors to go Shank

By Ben Deatherage LEBANON, Ore. (June 21) – Mid-season championship night checkers flew Saturday at Willamette Speedway for Jeremy Shank. Collen Winebarger took care of business in the first half of the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified main event. However, Winebarger found himself holding off several challengers for the top spot. Shank found a way around Winebarger to get the lead and earn his second win of the 2014 campaign.

Wauge collects third Cottage Grove checkers of season

(June 21) – Mark Wauge was the third and final leader in Saturday’s IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified headliner on Fan Appreciation Night at Cottage Grove Speedway. The checkers were his second straight and third of the season at Cottage Grove. Kreg Britton inherited the lead after early frontrunner Curtis Towns pulled off on lap eight under yellow with a flat tire. Britton kept all challengers at bay until getting passed on lap 18 by Wauge. Wauge maintained the lead the remainder of the distance. Mark Carrell was second and Britton ended in third.

Fourth straight for Grabouski at Thunder Hill

By Larry Lowery Jr. MAYETTA, Kan. (June 21) – Jordan Grabouski logged his fourth straight win at Thunder Hill on Saturday in the BSB Manufacturing IMCA Modified division. It wasn’t as easy as it might have seemed, though. Grabouski started seventh and quickly worked his way to the front while Jeff Jones and Danny Holt were doing so from even deeper in the field. Jones started 11th and Holt started 19th. Late in the race a few yellows would give the Jones and Holt the break they needed to run up on Grabouski. Jones would have the best shot as he pulled up to Grabouski’s back bumper in the final corner but just couldn’t muster enough momentum to get by. In post-race tech, Jones was disqualified and Holt took over the second spot. Smith brothers are triple winners at Algona

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (June 21) – Daniel, David and Dustin Smith of the Smith brothers racing family each won a feature to highlight a night of dirt track racing at Algona Raceway on Saturday. Daniel was the first of the siblings to capture a victory as he won the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock race after starting on the outside of the first row. He grabbed the lead early and only a pair of caution flags delayed his trip into the winners’ circle. For the fourth time this season at Algona Raceway, David Smith captured the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature. Smith patiently watched David and Bruce Wickman lead early he as came from the inside of the fourth row.
