Crawford County on schedule for April 4 Deery Series opener

DENISON, Iowa (Jan. 23) – The 2015 Deery Brothers Summer Series will take its first green flag at Crawford County Speedway. After inclement weather washed out numerous attempts to bring the series back to Denison last spring, the upcoming IMCA Late Model tour travels to Crawford County for opening night action on Saturday, April 4. In all, the 29th annual series currently has 16 dates. The first 15 of those events pay $3,000 to win and a minimum of $300 to start. Additional tour dates are still pending. “It’s nice to have our highest paying race as the series finale at the Yankee Dirt Track Classic at Farley Speedway,” Tour Director Kevin Yoder said. “That feature pays $7,500 to win so it should make for an exciting conclusion to the series.” The one previous Deery race at Denison was held in 1994. Kossuth County Speedway in Algona has also hosted just one tour event, in 2008, and brings the series back for a July 2 show. “If we get all our races in, this year’s [Read More]

Kay nears Deery Series title with win at Davenport

DAVENPORT, Iowa (Sept. 20) – Justin Kay took a big step toward another IMCA championship with his fifth Deery Brothers Summer Series feature win of the season Saturday at Davenport Speedway. With a second straight national title already secured and a 30-point advantage over Andy Eckrich, Kay can clinch his career first series title by starting his heat race when the IMCA Late Model tour concludes in a two-day event Oct. 3 and 4 at West Liberty Raceway. Kay’s latest win paid $3,000 and came by reining in Eckrich, who had started on the pole and led the first 27 of 35 laps on the half-mile oval at Davenport. After working his way up from 10th starting, Kay was inside and almost side-by-side with Eckrich, one groove higher and always ahead when the two crossed the stripe. Following a caution with nine laps left, Eckrich switched to the lower line. Kay went outside, got a good run in the second set of turns and was in front when lap 28 went into the books. There’s a lot of adrenaline pumping,” he said. “To me, this is the biggest race on the Deery schedule and not because of the pay but because it’s at my home track.” “The track was fast from top to bottom,” he added. “It didn’t matter where you were running.” Richie Gustin was second in the best showing of his brief Deery career. Kay is convincing in Deery Series feature win at Cedar County

TIPTON, Iowa (Aug. 19) – Justin Kay continues to do his best to take the suspense out of the Deery Brothers Summer Series points battle. Kay started on the pole and led every time around the track in winning Tuesday’s IMCA Late Model tour main event at Cedar County Raceway. The feature ran green to checkered and probably took less time than Kay will need to deposit his $3,000 check, the fourth he’s endorsed this season. Kyle Hinrichs ran second most of the way at Tipton and eventually crossed the stripe four car lengths behind Kay. Tyler Bruening pressured Hinrichs before ending in third. Brian Harris and Brian Beaudry completed the top five. Scott Fitzpatrick won the $250 Sunoco Race Fuels feature qualifier drawing. Next up for the series is the Monday, Sept. 1 event at Boone Speedway on opening night of the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s. Feature results – 1. Justin Kay, Wheatland; 2.
