Points leaders, lists take shape at Off Road

By Randy Pospishil sports@norfolkdailynews.com NORFOLK, Neb. (June 3, 2023) – The racing season may be just one-third of the way toward completion, but the points lists and the respective leaders in each of the various divisions are already taking shape at Off Road Speedway. Even at this early stage of the season, every point earned contributes to a potential track championship. Cory Dumpert, for example, entered Saturday night’s regular night of racing with a narrow three-point advantage over Devin Johnson and Chase Osborne in the IMCA Sunoco Late Model division. Dumpert will be able to add to that margin, albeit slightly, after his feature win, while Johnson was black flagged during the race and Osborne finished third. Dumpert patiently moved from deep in the field, with a starting position five rows back from the leaders then, after gaining momentum exiting turn two, cut sharply down the track entering turn three to secure the lead from Justin Bertschinger just before the race’s second caution and restart with four laps remaining. Dumpert’s win is his second of [Read More]

Young wins first PASS feature, Spahr streak ends at six

By Frank Buhrman PORT ROYAL, Pa. (June 3, 2023) – Drew Young had been getting closer and closer. The third-year driver broke through Saturday night at Port Royal Speedway, winning the 20-lap River Valley Builders Pennsylvania Sprint Series feature and ending Logan Spahr’s 2023 undefeated streak. Young’s third-place finish in the second heat race put him in the feature redraw, where he drew the outside of the front row and then led all the way, masterfully handling traffic in the non-stop race to score a 5.328 second victory over Mike Melair, who registered his second runner-up finish of 2023. It has been an impressive climb for Young, who had never driven a race car before he brought his IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car out for the first in August of 2020. After four races that season, he became a regular in 2021 and earned three top-10 finishes in 20 starts. He added a pair of top-five’s last season and has regularly been more competitive this year, including taking a second at Port Royal on May 6 [Read More]

By Brandon Reichenberger  SHAWANO, Wis. (June 3, 2023) – Shawano Speedway has seen numerous legendary drivers make laps around the track throughout its rich history. In 2007, the Shawano Speedway Hall of Fame was founded and since then two deserving legends have been inducted each year. Jerry Muenster, a 2010 Hall of Fame inductee, and Paul Thorpe led the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified field to the green flag for a 20-lap, action-packed feature. Much like the heat race earlier on in the night it was Jerry Muenster and Jerry Wilinski holding down the top 2two spots at the start. Marcus Yarie overtook Nick Holtger for third by lap three and quickly set his sights on the top two. Wilinski used the high line [Read More]

By Brian Neal DONNELLSON, Iowa (June 2, 2023) – A busy night of IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing took place at the Lee County Speedway on Friday with Darkside Tint & Graphix helping to bring all the action. When the final checkered flag waved at 10:10 p.m., one driver had claimed his first career win, two drivers earned their first of the season at Donnellson and two more were repeat winners. The 25-lap IMCA Sunoco Late Model feature saw Ed Hollenbeck and Blaire Barton lead the field to green. Hollenback led on lap one over Ray Raker and Sam Halstead. As Hollenbeck worked the bottom, Raker went to the top to try and get by. On lap eight, Raker used the momentum off the top of turn four to grab the top spot away from Hollenbeck. Action was slowed on lap 15 when CJ Horn spun to bring out the yellow. On the restart, Raker jumped back out front, with Jason Oenning and Jeremy Pundt close behind. Five IMCA feature winners decided on final laps at CJ

By Jerry Mackey COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa (June 2, 2023) – All five IMCA feature events came down to the final laps, with winners being determined on the final straight away Friday at CJ Speedway. The Friesen Performance IMCA Modified main event came down to the final corner as race leader Kurt Kile encountered lapped traffic and shot to the extreme high line of the speedway in turn four. This allowed an opening on the bottom side of the track and Jarrett Brown was there to take advantage of the opening.  Brown was able to get to the checkers less than a car length ahead of Kile. The 77 of Kile led the majority of the race only to be bested by Brown on the last lap. Kile took second ahead of Dakota Simmons. The IMCA Sunoco Stock Car main event was another action-packed event that saw close racing, some bumps and a driver racing from the back twice. When the checkers flew it was Adam Bell parking in victory lane for the first time this [Read More]

Whitman goes back-to-back at Outagamie

By Edward Anschutz  SEYMOUR, Wis. (June 2, 2023) – Fresh off a heat race win, Wyatt Block looked to be the man to beat early in Friday’s Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature at Outagamie Speedway. Last week’s winner Johnny Whitman joined the battle for the top spot before the midway point but with both drivers running the same line, Block was in control. That all changed once Block hit lapped traffic and had to move around the track. Once Block was deep in traffic, Whitman threw a slider in turn three, pinning Block behind a lap car. Whitman took over the top spot and dominated the remainder of the event. Block had to settle for second, Konnor Wilinski took third and fourth went to Lucas Lamberies.   It’s not over till it’s over and that was the case in the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods feature, a thriller between Corey Kemkes and Brady Harshbarger. Harshbarger dogged Kemkes most of the main before a caution with three laps remaining set up a dash to the checkers. On the restart, Kemkes began to work the low [Read More]
