COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa (June 23) – Another beautiful Friday night greeted a great crowd as the racing action was very exciting at the CJ Speedway.

IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars continue to provide great racing each and every Friday night. The main event took the green with Kenny O’Donnell taking the lead and looking to break a recent string of bad luck at his hometown race track.

O’Donnell stretched the lead out early in the race and appeared to be on his way to the win only to have Jason See make a late-race charge to the front. See went to the outside of O’Donnell as the two came off of turn four headed to the checkered flag.

At the finish line, See took the win by no more than 12 inches over O’Donnell, who led all but the last few feet in the 16-lap feature. Norman Bean ran with the leaders the entire race and settled for a close third ahead of Dustin Griffiths.

Jarrett Brown has had a great year at CJ in the Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds. Brown started the main event back in the fifth row and quickly worked to the front, taking the lead from Kyle Madden.

Kurt Kile advanced from the fourth row and got into second and set his sights on catching Brown. Kile was not able to pose a serious threat as Brown scored the win ahead of Kile and Dakota Simmons.

The Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods provided fans with another very close finish as teammates Matt Mayo and Shane Paris battled to the finish line.

Mayo, from Bakersfield, Calif., took the lead early and began to stretch out the lead before the race was slowed for a caution.

The restart allowed Paris to close in but Mayo once again stretched the lead out to a comfortable margin. A late race yellow allowed Paris to take one more shot at Mayo and this time Paris was able to make a move to the bottom of the track in turn four of the final lap.

Paris made the move work as he took the win by a very slim margin over Mayo.

Randy LaMar broke Luke Phillips’ win streak at three in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks. LaMar beat Phillips to the front but Phillips took over second early in the main event and the race was on for the win.

Phillips was able to get inside of LaMar on a couple of occasions but LaMar took the win ahead of Phillips and Tom Killen Jr.

Shane Barnes scored another feature win in the Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compact division. Barnes shot to the front early but was part of a lead pack that included Matt Moore, Alex Hayes and Darin Smith.

It was not until very late in the main event that Barnes was able to take a firm hold of the lead and go on to take the win ahead of Moore and Smith.
