Richardson tops CJ Speedway Stock feature

COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa (July 10) – A great field of drivers packed the infield at CJ Speedway on a beautiful Friday night for racing on July 10. The racing action was excellent all night on a perfectly prepared race track thanks to Larry Richardson. 

Twenty-one drivers took the green in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature and the Stock Cars lived up to their nickname of The Class Too Tough To Tame as fans were treated to three- and four-wide racing throughout the feature. Howard Gordon Jr. led early before Shane Richardson was able to break out of a pack of contenders to take the lead. Richardson held off the constant challenges by David Brandies in the late going to score the win by a slim margin. Brandies took second ahead of Jason Cook. 

Cody Staley led the caution-free Mach-1 Sport Compact feature flag to flag. Staley held off one of Eastern Iowa’s strongest 4-cylinder drivers in Jake Benischek for the win. Alex Hayes came under the checkers in third. 

Racing will continue on Friday, July 17 with hot laps taking to the track at 7:15 p.m.

Big crowd enjoys season championship night at CJ

By Jerry Mackey  COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa (Aug. 21) – The largest crowd of the year came out on Friday night to cheer on their favorite drivers on a near perfect weather night at the CJ Speedway. Mincer Ford of Columbus Junction sponsored the season championship races. The IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature took the green with Howard Gordon Jr. setting sail from his outside front row starting position. Gordon led the first half of the race while a fierce battle was waged by a pack of contenders for second. Tenth starting Damon Murty broke out of the pack just past the midway point to take control of second. A lap 13 caution bunched the field on the restart the battle was on for the lead. Murty used both the high side and the bottom before shooting past Gordon and into the lead on lap 16. Becerra breaks Brown win streak at CJ Speedway 

By Jerry Mackey COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa (May 19, 2023) – IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing was held on a blustery mid-May Friday night at the 4/10-mile dirt track, CJ Speedway. A solid field of drivers were on hand to provide another entertaining night of racing in five IMCA divisions.  The Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds saw CJ Speedway regular Jarrett Brown have his recent win streak come to an end at the hands of Carthage, Ill., driver Austin Becerra. Brown took the lead early but could not hold off Becerra, who had started the feature in the 10th position. Becerra took the win ahead of Brown and Dakota Simmons.  Matt Lundry led the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod feature for several laps before ninth starting Logan Anderson took over the top spot. Anderson held the point for a few laps before 12th starting Dylan VanWyk shot into the lead with a slick move off of turn two. VanWyk has been a frequent visitor to the FOCO Victory Lane in 2023. CJ Speedway to host 2023 awards banquet 

By Jerry Mackey CJ Speedway set to host 2023 awards banquet  By Jerry Mackey COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa (Nov. 14, 2023) – The annual CJ Speedway awards banquet will be held Saturday, Nov. 18 on the Louisa County Fairgrounds in the Youth Center Building located in the center of the fairgrounds in Columbus Junction. Drivers earning top ten in points who are eligible for awards will be honored and recognized for their outstanding achievements. The evening will kick off with a social hour getting underway at 5 p.m. followed by the meal being served at 6 p.m. The awards presentation will get underway at 7 p.m. Following the awards portion of the evening, banquet attendees will be treated to a show presented by hypnotist/comedian Cheryl Shagen.  Tickets for the CJ Speedway Banquet can be obtained by contacting the CJ Speedway through the Facebook page.
