Ogle extends Cardinal streak to three with $1,000 Raulston Memorial checkers

EUNICE, N.M. (Sept. 27-28) – Chalk up a third “W” in as many visits this season to Cardinal Speedway for Vince Ogle. Ogle led all 20 laps in winning Saturday’s IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified Blake Raulston Memorial main event at Eunice. The $1,000 victory put him on the ballot for next September’s Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. “I’ve been very lucky at Cardinal. I’ve been there three times and I’ve won three times,” said the former track champion, most recently the winner at Cardinal’s Sheen Memorial in July. “I definitely go there every chance I get.” Phillip Houston kept the pressure on much of the way. Early cautions slowed the feature before a long green flag session past midway. Houston wasn’t far off the pace in the green, white, checkered finish. Wins by Larson, Shryock headline Jackson Nationals JACKSON, Minn. (Sept. 28) – Dustin Larson was the big winner dollar-wise Saturday at Jackson Speedway while Kelly Shryock’s run to the checkers put him on the ballot for one of IMCA’s highest profile races. The two joined Cory Probst, Matt Looft and Megan Lappegard as IMCA winners at the 35th annual Jackson Nationals. Larson earned $1,500 for his IMCA Sunoco Stock Car victory, part of the Doug Cellan Memorial, while $1,100 checks went to Shryock in the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds, Probst in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Looft in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods. Lappegard’s Mach-1 Sport Compact checkers were good for $500. Larson drew the pole start and stayed in front all 20 laps in the Stock Car main. Gustin tops Modified main, Embrey gets 100th win at Hamilton County Speedway’s Hubbard Memorial

By Ryan Bergeson WEBSTER CITY, Iowa (Sept. 28) – Richie Gustin took home the biggest check while Randy Embrey reached a big career win mark Saturday at Hamilton County Speedway’s inaugural Dave Hubbard Memorial. Gustin capitalized on his pole start and led all 20 laps of the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified main event, earning $1,500 for his efforts. Ryan Ruter raced to second from the ninth starting position but could not reel in Gustin. Tyler Droste raced to a third place finish from the sixth row and Jason Murray finished fourth from the fifth row. Gustin was already on the ballot for the 2014 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. Charging to the front of the field from his fifth row start, Embrey won for the 100th time in his IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock career, earning $750. Saathoff sweeps IMCA Modified features at September Fest

BEATRICE, Neb. (Sept. 27-28) – Seven years separated Johnny Saathoff’s fifth and sixth main event wins at Beatrice Speedway’s season-ending special. He went a day between wins number six and seven. Saathoff checked out in topping $1,500 to win IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified September Fest features. Both were Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying events. From Friday’s third starting spot, Saathoff caught Jesse Sobbing for the lead on the ninth of 25 laps. Dylan Smith had started from inside the sixth row and worked his way into second following a restart. With Saathoff well ahead, Smith bested Sobbing, Jordan Grabouski and Jeff Joldersma in the race for runner-up points and pay. A similar scenario played out Saturday after Saathoff caught pole starter Chris Abelson with 11 laps left. (Sept. 27) – The Belleville Motor Sports IMCA Modified main event on Championship Night at Salina Speedway was a high-spirited duel between two families that have been through the wars together. The Lagroons and the Morrisons have risen through the classes, topping the 4-cylinder classes to the super stocks, and trading paint and positions on a weekly basis. On this night, Corey was on a mission to make the top side work while Danny Jr. used the inside groove. (Sept.) – Zach Blurton and Ryan Heger were among those scoring victory honors as 124 cars filled the pit area Saturday night for the Inaugural Jerry Soderberg Memorial Championship event that closed out the season at Dodge City Raceway Park. While Blurton took URSS Sprint Car honors after apparent winner Taylor Velasquez weighed in light at the scales and Heger topped the season finale in IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds for the second year in a row, Josh Appel took the win in United Wireless IMCA SportMods, Ron Hartman rallied from the tail to top the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, Dan Rogers bested the Thunder Cars and James Phelps won the Hornet finale. Yeager, who started ninth in the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified 30-lapper on Friday night, reeled in leader Jake Donnelly in the waning laps. That pair, along with Zane DeVilbiss, battled for the top spot before Yeager broke free with two laps to go and went on to collect the $750 winner’s share. Donnelly, DeVilbiss, Casey Delp and Greg Scott were next across the stripe. Yeager got to the front a little earlier during Saturday’s 30-lapper. From a seventh place start, Yeager worked around front row starter DeVilbiss on the fourth circuit, then drove away to the $2,000 victory and earned a spot on the 2014 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. Thies tops South Dakota Fall Nationals at Raceway Park

JEFFERSON, S.D. (Sept. 21) – As the season ended at Raceway Park on Saturday night, Jim Thies was the big winner of the $1,000-to-win WinnaVegas South Dakota Fall Nationals. In the Professional Concrete IMCA Modified main event, 2013 track champion Thies got to the front in the early laps and held off Ricky Stephan and Jason Schneiders for the top prize. The win qualified Thies for the 2014 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. The Casey’s General Stores IMCA Stock Car division saw Jason Ward atop the field once again, taking the win over Aaron Cain and Chad Bruns. Track champions crowned at RPM Speedway

By Mike Hughes HAYS, Kan. (Sept. 21) – It was championship night at RPM Speedway with three of the five track titles still up for grabs when the evening started. In the S & W Supply IMCA Modifieds, it was a two-car race for the championship as four points separated Corey Lagroon and Dylan Sherfick. Scott Brown took the lead at the start of the 20-lap feature with Tim Watts and Ronnie Hill in tow. Hill took over the top spot on the following lap. Hill led the field back to green following a lap eight caution, only to be passed by Travis Sherfick on lap nine. The red flag flew on the following lap when Teel flipped on the back straightaway. Teel was okay, but done for the night. Travis led the remaining distance to claim his third win of the year at Hays. Younger brother Dylan finished second.
