Ryan, Von Dresky, Olson double-up at Davenport

By Mike McGuire DAVENPORT, Iowa (May 15) – Three drivers scored their second wins of the season Friday at Davenport Speedway. Matt Ryan made it two-for-two in the Petersen Plumbing & Heating IMCA Late Models. Joe Zrostlik started on the pole and led the first 14 laps. Ryan flew by on lap 15 and led the rest of the way. Brunson Behning started fifth and got close to Ryan a couple times but had to settle for second. Todd Malmstrom came from deep in the field to finish third. Another full field of Milan Heating & Air IMCA Modifieds were on hand and the result was the same as Tony Von Dresky collected his second straight feature win. Chris Lawrence got to the front early in the race but on a lap four restart gave up the spot to Doug Crampton. Seconds later, Crampton’s car suddenly slowed. Loscheider leads the way at Arlington

ARLINGTON, Minn. (May 9) – Brian Loscheider found victory lane in the Eckblad Trucking IMCA Hobby Stocks on the 35th opening night at Arlington Raceway. Loscheider led from start to finish, holding off hard-charging Cory Probst for the checkers. A pair of IMCA defending national champions topped Saturday features. Matt Looft turned away every challenge from Eric Larson in winning the Unhinged Pizza Northern SportMod main event. Nate Coopman drew the pole and finished first with Scott Porter close behind in the Coors Light Sport Compacts. The B&B Chassis IMCA Stock Car feature was a thriller as Andy Altenburg and Dan Mackenthun battled throughout the race. At the checkered flag, Altenburg had the lead by inches to win his first feature at Arlington. Michael Stien led every lap of the 95.7 IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car feature. Brandon Beckendorf worked his way around the fast MN 93 IMCA Modified field and won ahead of Clint Hatlestad. A total of 111 cars were on hand for the season opener at Arlington.

Prauner picks up three wins at Off Road Speedway

By Randy Pospishil NORFOLK, Neb. (May 9) – The second week of racing at Off Road Speedway featured a full slate of races, plus the conclusion of the previous week’s rain-interrupted program. The result was a rare opportunity for racers to secure multiple wins and Kyle Prauner took full advantage by completing a ‘hat trick’ of victories, finishing first in the make-up of last week’s Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature before adding wins in week two’s IMCA Sunoco Stock Car and the SportMod features. “It doesn’t happen very often, but not a lot of guys have two cars going,” Prauner said. “We’ve just got both cars humming right along so far. It’s been a good weekend; we won them both with both cars in Albion last night, too.” In other action from last week Tejay Mielke won the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature. Guillion flies fastest at Eagle

By Greg Soukup EAGLE, Neb. (May 9) – Adam Guillion kept Trevor Grossenbacher at bay to win Saturday’s Precise Racing IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car feature at Eagle Raceway. Doug Lovegrove and Terry Richards rounded out the top four finishers. Mike Densberger dominated for his first local Kaplan University IMCA Modified victory of the season. Trent Roth made the most of a lap 11 restart in gaining the lead and eventual NAPA IMCA Northern SportMod feature victory. After taking over the front spot with seven laps left, Roy Armstrong held off all Valentino’s IMCA Hobby Stock challengers following a restart with three circuits remaining. Sophomore speedster Spencer Pavey III ruled the Sam’s Club IMCA Sport Compacts.

Thornton doubles up in CSP Mother’s Day Race for the Cure

By Lonnie Wheatley PEORIA, Ariz. (May 9) – Ricky Thornton, Jr., picked off a pair of feature wins at Saturday’s fifth annual Mother’s Day Race for the Cure at Canyon Speedway Park. Thornton raced from the 10th starting position in both the 9th World Vapor IMCA Modifieds and Arizona Differential Pure Stocks for victory honors. The defending track champion in the Modified ranks, Thornton made the most of his first regular season appearance of the year by rallying from the fifth row to take the checkered flag ahead of Brian Schultz, with Mike Strobl, Don Hagan and George Fronsman in the top five.

Cox gets lead back twice for Cottage Grove checkers

(May 9) – Getting to the front of the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified field at Cottage Grove Speedway Saturday evening was the easy part of Kinzer Cox’s drive to victory lane. Staying in front was the hard part. The hometown clipper had to regain the lead from Gus Cooper on the 12th and 16th laps to gain the victory. Ryan Baker set the early pace, giving way to Jason Kocks on lap four. Kocks suffered mechanical issues shortly afterwards, however, giving the position back to Baker. On lap five, Cox took over and tried to set a rapid pace. Three cautions prevented him from constructing a large lead. Cooper got by Cox on lap 11, but Cox took the position back the next time around. Cooper was in the lead when the next lap was scored but lost the point again on lap 16. Ryland wins again at Antioch

ANTIOCH, Calif. (May 9) – Fred Ryland, the national point leader in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod division, won his fifth local feature of the season Saturday at Antioch Speedway. Ryland was smooth as he picked his way to the top of the field, passing his wife Patti and Ron Brown en route to the lead. In the meantime, Keith Brown Jr. was charging hard and worked his way to second midway through the event. A few laps later, Brown made contact with Ryland in the third turn, spinning his own car in the process. Ryland didn’t know what hit him. “I didn’t see who it was, but the hit was pretty hard – luckily I was able to keep the car on the track,” Ryland said. “Anyone who is faster than me is welcome to pass me.” Brown, a rookie, took up the chase of Ryland and challenged him to the finish. Austin Luellen earns fourth Marshalltown win

By Jeremy Fox MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (May 8) – Austin Luellen collected his fourth local Toby K’s Hideaway feature win of the season Friday during Marshalltown Speedway’s Cliff Chambers Memorial. Staying locked into the front spot despite a pair of restarts on the 11th of 15 laps, Luellen held Eric Stanton in check to the finish. John Watson, Andy Hick and Tyson Overton rounded out the top five. Richie Gustin took the lead from the start of the Coors Light IMCA Modified main and didn’t slow down ‘til he caught lapped traffic. After the only caution of the contest waved with five to go, Gustin won in front of Joel Rust. Jimmy Gustin was third. Clint Luellen raced side-by-side with Jenae Gustin before capturing the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod victory. Trent Murphy passed Jay Schmidt on the 11th circuit and outran Donavon Smith in winning the Miller Lite IMCA Stock Car headliner.

Lovell, Graham, are IMCA winners at Banks

By Ben Deatherage BANKS, Ore. (May 9) – Jeff Lovell was on a rail in Saturday’s IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified feature at Sunset Speedway Park. Lovell pulled away from the rest of the field, building a sizable lead before taking his first checkers of the season. Craig Cassell posted another runner-up finish. Doug Lockwood, Oscar Luckman and Kenny Miller completed the top five. The Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods were also in the house. Pamela Graham was the winner ahead of Michael Melton and Ken Frisbie.

Green grabs first IMCA Modified win

By Greg Grabianowski BRITT, Iowa (May 9) – It only took four weeks for Derek Green to earn his first career victory in a new division. Green made the switch from his usual IMCA Sunoco Stock Car to the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified division this year and grabbed his first win at Hancock County Speedway. Green started on the pole and outran Tim Ward, Ryan Ruter, Jesse Hoeft and Clayton Christensen to the checkers. Chad Palmer earned his first Stock Car win of the season after starting outside row three. For the second straight week, George Nordman took the double checkers in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod main. Cody Nielsen started inside row six and won his first local IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature of the year. Kaytee DeVries of Spencer took her second feature win of the season in the Mach-1 Sport Compacts, coming from the outside of the third row to do so. Tenth starting Justin Nielsen was the runner-up.
