SABINE, La. (March 18) – A late-race restart opened the door for Jacob Harris Saturday at Sab­ine Motor Speedway. Harris led the last three laps in winning his career-first IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car feature in the season-opener for the winged division in Louisiana. Johnny Brown and Harris paced the field to green with Brown taking the early over Josh Hawkins and Harris. A late caution waved for a crash between Josh McCord and Tyler Harris; Brown and Hawkins made contact on the exit of turn two, sending Brown off the racing surface while Hawkins sus­tained a left rear flat. By Tony Steele PEORIZ, Ariz. (March 18) – Chaz Baca Jr. took home his third win in four events at Canyon Speedway Park Saturday night in the Mark Stewart owned no. 59 IMCA Modified. Baca continued to flex his muscles as he took his third win and fourth top two in the past four events he has entered at CSP. Baca was runner-up to Guy Norton on the first night of the Shamrock Showcase doubleheader before powering his way to victory on night number two. John Parmeley led during the first half of the race and seemed to be the car to beat while Baca began to maneuver his way through traffic from the 10th starting spot. Once Baca found himself in second it looked like he wouldn’t quite have the power to get around Parmeley until the leader slipped up in the middle of turns one and two, allowing Baca to make his way by on the inside. (March 17) – Guy Norton rebounded from a rough winter season to take home a victory, leading from the drop of the green in the IMCA Modified feature Friday at Canyon Speedway Park’s Shamrock Showcase. After a rough outing one week ago, the division stepped up with the show of the year so far in 2017 at CSP. An early spin in turn three on the first lap of the main event involving Austin Kuehl took out a couple strong cars, including Mike Strobl and Bryson Curry. Once the green flag was displayed a second time, we would see no more cautions as the Modifieds went green to checkers to finish the race. Norton started up front and led all 25 laps en route to a dominating victory. The story of the night may lie with Norton, but the show was the race-long battle for second place with Jason Noll fighting with John Parmeley. SUSANVILLE, Calif. – Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods are primed for an April debut at California’s Diamond Mountain Speedway. Northern SportMods join IMCA Modifieds on 10 Friday or Saturday races at the Lassen County Fairgrounds oval. Opening night set is for April 8. Season championship night for both divisions is Aug. 19. “We have a few of these cars around already. I know three more of our local drivers who are building them now and we’ll get some (traveling) from American Valley Speedway in Quincy and Siskiyou Motor Speedway in Yreka,” said Fair Manager Jim Wolcott. “We like the economy of this division and look forward to seeing it grow here.” Transponders will be required and will be available to rent from the track.

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa – Kirk Niehouse has helped present awards to IMCA drivers at countless banquets during his 20-plus years as director of the Stock Car and Hobby Stock divisions. He was the recipient of a regional award at the most recent banquet he attended, however, early this month in New York City. An art instructor at Marshalltown High School, Niehouse received the Western Region Secondary Art Educator Award from the National Art Educators Association. He’d been nominated for the regional award after receiving the Outstanding Secondary Art Educator award from the Art Educators of Iowa. “It was just ‘Wow!’ I never expected to get an award like this,” said Niehouse, who teaches pottery and graphic design to students in grades 9-12. “I didn’t get into teaching for this kind of thing. A lot of my fellow teachers helped me get to this point. It’s not something you accomplish by yourself.” He had been nominated for the state award by another teacher. By Jerry Mackey FARLEY, Iowa – The new ownership group of Farley Speedway will host a meet and greet informational meeting this Saturday, March 18 at the Farley Speedway in the Palace Ballroom beginning at 1 p.m. The ownership group will be represented by Jason Rauen at this meeting. All drivers and crew members interested in competing at any of the three speedways under the direction of Farley Speedway Promotions are encouraged to attend. Racing events will be conducted on Fridays at Farley Speedway, Saturdays at West Liberty Raceway and Sundays at Dubuque Speedway. Special events and the entire schedules will be available and discussed. In addition, all in attendance will meet the new track manager. An open question and answer session will be held.
