Meyer extends win string at Off Road Speedway

By Randy Pospishil sports@norfolkdailynews.com NORFOLK, Neb. (May 13) – When an opening appeared among the cluster of cars in front of Ramsey Meyer, he did the logical thing – he sped through it. As a result, Meyer managed to move from the fourth row of the starting grid to second within one lap of the 12-lap Mach-1 Sport Compact feature Saturday at Off Road Speedway. Just one lap later, Meyer took the lead from Norfolk’s Shannon Pospisil. A caution with four laps remaining returned the field to Meyer’s rear bumper and although Dustin Jackson took advantage of the opportunity to be side-by-side with Pospisil, he was unable to overtake Meyer who went on to win his third race in a row at Norfolk. Jeremy Hoskinson gained his first Off Road Speedway win of the season in the IMCA Hobby Sunoco Stock division, ending Austin Brauner’s string of consecutive local victories at two. In the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature, Ron Pettitt was also able to secure his first Off Road victory. Pettitt passed John Brudigan [Read More]

Barker is best in Raceway Park IMCA Stocks

By Bob Coney JEFFERSON, S.D. (May 14) – One of the best races of the Sunday night program at Raceway Park came in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature, where four different drivers held the lead at one point or another. Three-wide racing dominated the entire race. Coming out on top of the battle was Travis Barker who took control of the inside line over the final laps to top Mel Elsberry, Jason Ward and Bo Lundquist. The most dominating win of the night came in the Total Motors IMCA Modified feature where Jason Schneiders jumped out front from his front row starting spot and was never challenged all the way to the checkers. David Miller assumed the lead with five laps left after Aaron Shearn had to pit with a flat tire, then  took the Golden Auto Sales IMCA Hobby Stock checkers ahead of the hard-charging Shearn. Helm flying home to pilot IMCA Modified

SHERRARD, Ill. – Dalon Helm brings a unique perspective on speed to the IMCA Modified division. Second Lieutenant Helm, a Sherrard, Ill., native and graduate of the United States Air Force Academy is stationed at Laughlin Air Force Base in Del Rio, Texas. Now in the Specialized Undergraduate Pilot Training program, he’s flying a T-6A Texan turbo-prop with a top speed of around 360 miles an hour. He’ll be home over the Memorial Day Weekend and hopes to race with his father Dan at Davenport Speedway and Quad City Speedway, two of the tracks he competed at during his 2016 rookie season. “I had 10 flights in a small plane before I raced a Modified,” said Helm. “I’m going a lot faster now in a T-6 but it’s hard to tell the difference because of the perspective. Having tires on the ground feels faster than when you’re in an airplane 15,000 feet off the ground.” Helm will next train in a T38 Talon, a course that leads to becoming a fighter or bomber pilot, or [Read More]
