Kendall brings broom to Sheyenne Speedway, completes Northstar IMCA Mod Tour sweep

LISBON, N.D. (Aug. 12) – After running third in his Northstar IMCA Modified Tour heat race at Sheyenne Speedway, Billy Kendall didn’t think Sunday would be his night. That wasn’t the case. Kendall drew another front row start, chased and got the lead back from Jarrett Carter, then stayed in front to the end of the 30-lapper at Lisbon. The $1,000 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying victory was his third in as many nights and was complemented by a $1,000 share of the tour point fund. “It was kind of hard to believe,” admitted Kendall, 19 years old and headed back to the University of North Dakota later this week to start his sophomore year as a mechanical engineering major. “I wasn’t good in my heat race and didn’t think it would be our night, but we turned it around in the feature.” Kendall had won tour features Friday at Princeton Speedway and Saturday at North Central Speedway, both familiar venues. He made the 3-1/2 hour tow on Sunday to race for the first [Read More]

Kendall collects second straight Northstar IMCA Modified Tour win

BRAINERD, Minn. (Aug. 11) – Billy Kendall’s second Northstar IMCA Modified Tour victory in as many nights put a second $1,000 check in his pocket. Kendall drew the pole Saturday night for the main event at his home track North Central Speedway and duplicated his winning run Friday at Princeton, leading all 30 laps. The only caution of the contest came on lap two. Kendall was quickly through lapped traffic and won by a straightaway ahead of defending national champion Jason Wolla. “We’ve been lucky to start on the front row two nights in a row but it was another good, solid night for us,” said Kendall, who’d put his name on the 2019 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot with the Friday checkers. “This is the first time this season we’ve won on back-to-back nights. This was definitely the weekend to do it.” “The track was amazing tonight,” added Kendall, who lives minutes away from the Brainerd oval and started his racing career there. “You could run low, middle, high, anywhere on it.” Wolla had [Read More]

Kendall prevails at Princeton in Northstar IMCA Mod Tour opener

PRINCETON, Minn. (Aug. 10) – A driver who’s seen some wins get away from him got a big one Friday at Princeton Speedway. Billy Kendall led all 30 laps of the Northstar IMCA Modified Tour lidlifter, beating Brandon Beckendorf in the race for the $1,000 checkers and 2019 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot berth. “It feels good,” Kendall said following his first Princeton victory of the season. “We’ve been struggling to get wins this season and it seems like we’ve had a lot of seconds. The car was tight in the heat but it was perfect on the berm in the feature.” Kendall drew the outside row one start and quickly jumped out to a big lead. He’d maneuvered through and around lapped traffic before almost getting too high and opening the door for Larry Zeller with six circuits to go. After righting the ship, Kendall outran the hard-charging Brandon Beckendorf for the win. Zeller, 12th starting Clint Hatlestad and Shawn Fletcher completed the top five. Beckendorf, currently runner-up in the national point standings, had [Read More]

Dragoo collects first Sprint checkers

By Greg Soukup EAGLE, Neb. (Aug. 4) – Keith Dragoo’s first IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car win came Saturday night at Eagle Raceway. Clint Benson had passed Dragoo with just three laps left, but Dragoo returned the favor returned the favor on the last circuit to win a nail biter. “We’re the team who runs on used everything. We prove that it doesn’t take the best of everything to win a race,” he said. “We won this race on a set of used tires and a shock package from Jason Martin. One of his guys came over after the race and said, ‘Those seriously aren’t the tires that we gave you, are they?’ and I told him they sure were.’” Already on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot, Jordan Grabouski earned $1,000 for his sixth Runner Freight IMCA Modified victory of the season. Beckendorf outruns IMCA Modified foes at Kossuth County’s Gary Harken Memorial

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (Aug. 4) – The rest of the IMCA Modified field couldn’t catch Brandon Beckendorf, who raced to one of four $1,000 paydays at Kossuth County Speedway’s Gary Harken Memorial. Jesse Hoeft was the early leader before Beckendorf took over the top spot on the third lap. The Danube, Minn., driver did not give up that spot once out in clean air as just a single yellow, just before midway of the 20-lap feature slowed his trip into victory lane ahead of fast closing Tad Reutzel. The win put Beckendorf of the 2019 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. Hard charger Jeremy went from 13th starting to third. Also taking home $1,000 checks from the Kossuth County Fair show were Chad Palmer in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, Chanse Hollatz in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and George Nordman in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods. Poessnecker makes long-awaited return to victory lane

By Randy Pospishil sports@norfolkdailynews.com NORFOLK, Neb. (Aug. 4) – It’s been a long time between wins for Dusty Poessnecker. So his excitement was no surprise after his win in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature Saturday at Off Road Speedway. A family-comes-first decision in 2013, to establish a local business in his hometown of Atkinson, put Poessnecker’s racing career on hold for four years until this season. “It was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do,” he said. “But I needed to concentrate on my family and the business, a hometown body shop which I bought from my uncle.” So this rseason, with the business underway and with the help of Dale Bittner of Big Daddy Racing, Poessnecker – who began racing when he was 11 years old – is back on the racetrack. “I couldn’t have done it without Dale. He put me back in a racecar,” Poessnecker said. “I got back into racing this season in the Hobby Stocks (division), where I’ve had some success over the years, with four or five [Read More]
