Jordan scores first CJ Speedway IMCA Stock Car win

COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa (Aug. 7) – Friday night the CJ Speedway fans were treated to another outstanding night of racing under near perfect weather conditions. Fans have come accustomed to seeing the very best in IMCA Sunoco Stock Car racing and Friday night was another excellent race.

Twenty of Eastern Iowa’s very best IMCA Stock Car drivers took the green for their 20-lap feature with veteran Tom Cannon leading the way in the early going. A lot of position shuffling was going on behind Cannon as the CJ Speedway hot shoes were making their way to the front.

Scott Jordan took the lead as the race neared halfway but had his hands full with a pack of drivers hounding him, among them Shane Richardson, Dustin Griffiths, Adam Bell and Jason See

Jordan held the pack at bay in scoring his first-ever CJ Speedway IMCA Stock feature win. Richardson and Griffiths raced under the checkered flag in second and third, respectively. 

The Mach-1 Sport Compact division saw Cody Staley stretch his winning streak to six in the 4-cylinder class. Staley started fourth but shot to the front in leading every one of the 12 laps in the main event. William Michel ran strong second ahead of Shane Barnes.

Friday, Aug. 14 will be bike night for the kids with several kids going home with new bicycles.

California Kid scores big win at CJ Speedway

By Jerry Mackey COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa (July 15, 2022) – Racing action returned to the CJ Speedway on the Louisa County Fairgrounds in Columbus Junction following two consecutive rainouts. The wet conditions on the grounds made for a very high speed racing surface on Friday night. The fans were treated to a very nice Fireworks display courtesy of Patriot Fireworks following the racing action.   The Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod feature ran as the headliner of the night with a strong field of 20 drivers taking the initial green flag for the main event.  Matt Mayo from Bakersfield, Calif., is spending time in Southeast Iowa racing out of the Shane Paris shop in Muscatine. Mayo took the lead from Matt Lundry and went on to score his first victory since arriving in the Hawkeye State. The feature was only slowed for one minor caution after lap one was completed. Deery Brothers Summer Series returns to CJ Speedway for July 18 show 

COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa – An absence of more than 22 race seasons comes to an end next Wednesday, with the return of the Deery Brothers Summer Series to CJ Speedway. Touring IMCA Late Models last traveled to Columbus Junction for an April 12, 1996 show won by Rick Wendling of Hazleton. They’ll vie for $2,000 to win and a minimum of $300 to start when they’re back in town on July 18. “This has been one of the events that we’ve really been looking forward to since the schedule for the 32nd annual series was announced,” noted Tour Director Kevin Yoder. “A lot of our series drivers have never raced at CJ before, or have never raced there in a Late Model, and I know they’re looking forward to next week.” Pit gates and the grandstand open at 5:30 p.m. on race day. Brown, Anderson among winners at CJ Speedway

By Jerry Mackey  COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa (May 13, 2022) – Beautiful weather conditions greeted fans and drivers for the second night of racing at the CJ Speedway on Friday night. A swift racing program was run with the final checkered flag waving at 9:30 p.m.   Jarrett Brown had his Bill Falyer-owned Modified dialed in and scored the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature win. Brown stated in victory lane “We have had terrible luck so far this season with having lost two engines in the first three races that we have entered.” Brown found the right combination on Friday night and scored a convincing feature win over last week’s feature winner Troy Cordes. Maguire DeJong, in his rookie Modified campaign, ran a very strong third.   Dustin Vis has served notice to the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car drivers at the CJ Speedway that they are going to have to beat a very strong 20V car if they are going to get to victory lane.
