Selinsgrove checkers give Duke PASS weekend sweep

(July 27) – Ken Duke Jr. capped a perfect racing weekend with a late pass for the lead and his second straight hometown victory in Saturday’s 20-lap Pennsylvania Sprint Series feature at Selinsgrove Speedway. The Selinsgrove IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car win followed Duke’s victory Friday at Clinton County Motor Speedway and was his seventh of the year in PASS competition; he also has won with the Laurel Highlands Sprint Series. “The track didn’t slick off quite as much as I thought it would for the feature,” Duke said in victory lane, “so we were a little tight at the beginning, but the longer we ran, the better we got. Estes best in Stock Car thriller at Bethany

By Rick Staley BETHANY, Mo. (July 27) – Jason Estes held off a succession of challengers to take the $1,262 IMCA Sunoco Stock Car checkers Saturday at Bethany Speedway. After showing plenty of speed in winning his heat race, Estes motored into the lead and stayed in front to the checkers. Mike Van Genderen bounced back from a foray through the infield to finish second. Van Genderen has drawn the pole start with J.J. Baumli, winner of Friday’s Joe Crist Memorial Shootout event at US 36 Raceway on the outside. Van Genderen took the initial lead with Baumli challenging every inch of the way. Blake Peeler made his presence felt and tried his hand at the front of the field only to see the very fast Estes charge by. Estes held the lead with Peeler and Baumli challenging every lap. IMCA RaceSaver Sprints featured on opening night of Front Row Challenge

OSKALOOSA, Iowa – IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars return to Southern Iowa Speedway and the Front Row Challenge special on Monday, Aug. 5, running for $1,000 to win. A minimum of $100 will be paid to start and IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National and E3 Spark Plugs Iowa State points will be awarded for the Badger Steel-sponsored event. There is no entry fee; pit passes are $40 and drivers must compete with a Schoenfeld/Knoxville muffler. Heat race winners and the ‘B’ feature winner(s) all receive product prizes. Admission is $30 for adults and $15 for ages 12 and under. Baumli dominates Joe Crist Memorial Stock Car Shootout

Baumli showed competitors from Missouri, Kansas, Iowa and Nebraska the fast way around the oval in winning US 36 Raceway’s third annual Joe Crist Memorial Shootout for IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars. Baumli drove away from the field following a restart late in the 30-lapper to pick up the $1,262 winner’s check. Polesitter Thomas Roberts had taken the early lead and paced the first several laps. Baumli worked the bottom of the track before settling into second. After an early caution, Baumli showed his dominance when he perfected the restart and took the lead away from Roberts. Multiple drivers had chances to move around Baumli but his restarts were too strong as the leader put several car lengths between his competitors each time the green flag came back out. Roberts, Travis Barker and Brad Whitney all had attempts from the second position on restarts and none could figure out how to match Baumli. Taylor takes home $2,000 for Ed Jordan IMCA Modified win

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (July 27) – The already much-accomplished Jeff Taylor raced to a couple career firsts Saturday at I-30 Speedway. Taylor gained the lead early and led the rest of the way, holding off Tyler Stevens following a late restart to win the seventh annual Ed Jordan Memorial IMCA Modified main event. “I’ve won qualifiers and heat races here before but this was the first feature I’ve won at Little Rock,” Taylor said following the $2,000, 2020 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying victory. “It seems like the last four or five races we were always one spot short and could never pull it off.” J.T Goodson, Clay Norris and Drew Armstrong rounded out the top five. Return to Hancock County, Hobo 100 win result in career-best payday for Cornelius

BRITT, Iowa (July 26) – Dean Cornelius came to Britt Friday night with the same setup that had put him in Hancock County Speedway’s victory lane in May. He left town with the Hobo 100 IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature win and a career-best payday of $4,300. Curt Lund made it a back-and-forth battle before Cornelius regained the upper hand. Jake Masters challenged late but couldn’t catch the leader before the checkers flew at the end of the caution-free 25-lapper. “I was faster off turn four,” Cornelius said of the duel with Masters. “I knew I’d be all right if I didn’t make a mistake and just kept doing what I was doing.” Cornelius had started fourth and passed Ned Kalis and then Lund for the lead. Thirteenth starting Matt Speckman, Lund and 14th starting Derek Green completed the top five. Cayden Carter advanced 10 positions to sixth. Gretz, Dix, Schneider win Big Three

By Greg Aregoni FRANCIS CREEK, Wis. (July 27) – Greg Gretz held off a hard-charging Josh Long to claim the IMCA Modified feature win Saturday at 141 Speedway. It was his first win of the season. Gretz started up front and his racer was on point for 20 straight laps as he never relinquished the lead, while Long started ninth and quickly worked his way through the field. Long got to the second spot only to see the leader using a perfect line. Long searched high and low around the 1/3 mile but could never find enough to get past. An instant classic, as they say in the sports world, is what the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature brought to the table. Johnson brothers square off in Norfolk feature

(July 27) – When racing returned to Off Road Speedway Saturday night after a two-week hiatus, results included a battle between brothers, a pair of first-time winners, and a sixth trip to victory lane for a driver in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock division. In the IMCA Late Model feature, brothers Jim and Chris Johnson pulled away from a 15-car field to wage a two-car competition, which dated back several years, according to Jim. “We’ve raced against each other a lot of times in 31 years, but going head-to-head like this hasn’t happened a lot of times, but enough times,” Jim said. “We used to share a stock car back in 1988; he’d run at Hartington, and I’d race it at Riviera. Duke wins Clinton County PASS battle

(July 26) – Ken Duke Jr. emerged from an intense, nearly race-long three-car battle to win the 25-lap IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car event co-sponsored by the Pennsylvania Sprint Series and Laurel Highlands Sprint Series Friday at Clinton County Motor Speedway. Duke took his sixth PASS event of the season and third at Lock have. Most of the race was a dogfight between Duke, polesitter John Walp and outside front-row starter Dylan Proctor, with Proctor leading the most laps but all three drivers taking turns at the front. After Duke, who had started third, grabbed the lead for the final time, Walp spun and had to restart in the rear. Warrior nominations sought for honorary starters of last-chance Modified features

BOONE, Iowa – IMCA drivers and fans are asked to Nominate A Warrior as an honorary starter for each of the three last-chance Modified features on Saturday, Sept. 7 during the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s. Current or former service members are eligible and letters or emails of nomination should be 500 words or less and tell about the nominee and their service to our country. Nominations should be directed to Marketing Director Kevin Yoder at the IMCA home office or kyoder@imca.com. “We enjoy this opportunity to honor those who have or are currently serving our country in the armed forces,” Yoder said. “Super Nationals is our biggest event and it is a privilege for us to recognize them on championship day at Boone Speedway.” All three honorary starters will be recognized that afternoon when officials from Casey’s General Store and IMCA present a check to Hope For The Warriors.
