Looft wins Kossuth County Wyffels SportMod Special

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (June 30, 2022) – Matt Looft took the lead with four laps to go to earn the $1,000 first place check in the Wyffels Hybrid Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod Special at Kossuth County Speedway Thursday night.  Jake Simpson and Gerald Curry bought the 20-car feature field to the stand for the green flag in the final event of the evening.  After a complete restart, Simpson grabbed the early lead. He led the first eight laps before encountering lapped traffic on lap nine as Austin Schrage and Looft closed in.  All three got past a pair of lapped cars before the yellow flag came out on lap 12. Looft moved up a groove after the restart and slowly reeled in Simpson for the lead. On lap 17 of the 20-lap feature, Looft took over the top spot and went on to win his fourth local feature of the season. Simpson held on to the runner-up spot as Schrage took third. BRITT, Iowa (July 1, 2022) – Long-time flagman and part-time Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compact driver Logan Kelly gave young son Hendrick something different to talk about. Kelly went to the high line after racing his way back to the front of the field at Hancock County Speedway en route to his IMCA career first feature win on July 1. “We were just plain fast and for once in my life I didn’t make any mistakes in the race car. That was the big thing. It was a confidence building night,” said Kelly, from Fairmont, Minn., and also a first-time heat race winner Friday night. “Hendrick was pretty excited to see the trophy when he got up the next morning.”  “We’d broken an axle our first week at Britt and he’s been telling people ‘Daddy drove off the track.’ Hopefully we can get him talking about how dad brought home a trophy.”  The site of Kelly’s first win was also special. “It was neat to win here. My dad Jim never raced but he helped other [Read More]

Block provides IMCA Modified fireworks at Outagamie

By Joe Orsini SEYMOUR, Wis. (July 1, 2022) – The Fourth of July weekend kicked off with 180 cars filling the pits at Outagamie Speedway. Each of the drivers wanted to avoid fireworks on the track and enjoy them from victory lane after the races. The Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature kicked off with Jason Hyerdall and then Dan Roedl in front.  Wyatt Block wasted no time moving into position to challenge as he moved inside Hyerdall to secure second. Block continued to work the groove inside Roedl and fought side-by-side with the leader for multiple laps as Mike Mullen steadily worked the high side into fourth place. At halfway, Roedl led Block, Cody Schroeder, and Mike Mullen.  A lap 12 restart saw Block slice past Roedl into the top spot and try to open a gap on the field.  The closing laps saw Mullen put on a clinic on running the high side in turns one and two as he tickled the wall up top with every lap. When the checkers flew Mullen closed [Read More]

Arlington Stock Car checkers fly for Lund

ARLINGTON, Minn. (June 25, 2022) – Saturday’s IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature at Arlington Raceway saw a new car in victory lane but not without a battle first. Andrea McCain led the first seven laps before getting too high following a restart and seeing Curt Lund take over the top spot. Tim Malchow started ninth and worked his way to second but couldn’t get around Lund as the cars behind him were all vying for the top spot, too, with three- and four-wide racing.  In the end Lund won the race, Malchow took second and Chad Schroeder took third. Cory Probst again pulled off the feature win in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature, which was tainted with a late race crashes on laps nine and 10. Chad Volk took second over Moriah Trebelhorn and Todd Sievert. There were three different leaders in the Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compact feature. David Marshall led the first two laps, then Alan Lahr took over the top spot until lap nine when Nate Coopman got around him. R.J. Esqueda [Read More]

Andrews started 10th, snagged the lead with 12 to go and took the checkers ahead of Ryan Argobast and Dana Deeke.  “When you have to start in the back because of the points deal, it’s pretty tough to get to the front. A lot of these guys are really good and that’s the reason they’re out here,” Andrews said. “We’ve struggled getting through them but tonight was our night” “I think we were in second four laps in and I know I looked up at the scoreboard and there were 12 to go when I took the lead,” he added. “From there it was smooth sailing.” Jordan Grabouski won both Friesen Performance IMCA Modified and IMCA Sunoco Stock Car features. By Brian Neal DONNELLSON, Iowa (June 24, 2022) – Nick Marolf and Denny Eckrich were both $1,000 feature winners in round four of Drive For 5 Friday night at Lee County Speedway. IMCA Stock Cars are spectacular at Shawano

By Scott J. Owen SHAWANO, Wis. (June 25, 2022) – Though the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car division is known as The Class Too Tough To Tame, it doesn’t always feature a three-wide battle for the lead for nearly half of the race.  But Saturday night at Shawano Speedway it sure did with Trent Nolan prevailing for his fourth win of the year.  Fresh off an impressive heat race win earlier in the evening, Dylan Stedjee took the lead on lap one. Tyler Wendt pressured Stedjee from the start, pulled alongside the leader on more than one occasion while Kyle Frederick, Nolan and Luke Lemmens joined the battle at the front of the field.  Frederick pulled to the outside of Stedjee on lap seven to take the lead.  Lemmens quickly made it three-wide for the lead with Frederick and Stedjee.  Frederick continued to lead as Lemmens ran second and Nolan moved to third.  On lap 11, Frederick, Lemmens and Nolan began their three-wide battle for the win that would continue for the final nine laps of the race.  Most often [Read More]

Jared makes it Miller Time at CJ Speedway

COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa (June 24, 2022) – Jared Miller has seen his motor luck go from bad to worse so far this season, but still had a good feeling going into his IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock main event Friday night at CJ Speedway. Those positive vibes became reality after the West Branch driver drew the pole start and held off heavy hitters Randy LaMar and John Irwin following a late restart for the checkers. The win was his career second in the IMCA class and first since 2010 at then-hometown Marshalltown Speedway. “We’ve blown up four engines so far this year, including one leading the feature here at Columbus Junction a couple weeks ago,” said Miller. “But I had a good feeling about tonight. I thought if I made it through the heat race and everything stayed together I had a good chance to win.” He had started the night by winning his heat, then went to the top side, held his line and outran all challengers following that late yellow. “The caution came out [Read More]

Wroten makes history at CJ Speedway

By Jerry Mackey  COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa (June 24, 2022) – Friday night, history was made at the CJ Speedway as victory lane welcomed the first female driver in recent history. It happened in the very tough IMCA Sunoco Stock Car division. Leah Wroten made her third consecutive trip to CJ Speedway and started the main event in the second row. Wroten took the lead on lap five from Kenny O’Donnell and went on to make history by winning the main event in convincing fashion. A late-race caution bunched the field up but Wroten held her line and sailed on to the win ahead of Tom Cannon and O’Donnell. When asked if he could remember the last time a woman made her way to victory lane, promoter Larry Richardson was stumped and could not remember when or if it had happened. The Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature saw Jarrett Brown continue his recent hot streak at CJ Speedway. Brown started in the last row, quickly worked through the pack and went on to bolster his point [Read More]
