IMCA Stock Cars are spectacular at Shawano

SHAWANO, Wis. (June 25, 2022) – Though the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car division is known as The Class Too Tough To Tame, it doesn’t always feature a three-wide battle for the lead for nearly half of the race. 

But Saturday night at Shawano Speedway it sure did with Trent Nolan prevailing for his fourth win of the year. 

Fresh off an impressive heat race win earlier in the evening, Dylan Stedjee took the lead on lap one. Tyler Wendt pressured Stedjee from the start, pulled alongside the leader on more than one occasion while Kyle Frederick, Nolan and Luke Lemmens joined the battle at the front of the field. 

Frederick pulled to the outside of Stedjee on lap seven to take the lead.  Lemmens quickly made it three-wide for the lead with Frederick and Stedjee.  Frederick continued to lead as Lemmens ran second and Nolan moved to third. 

On lap 11, Frederick, Lemmens and Nolan began their three-wide battle for the win that would continue for the final nine laps of the race.  Most often it was Frederick on the outside, Lemmens in the middle and Nolan on the inside.

Frederick continued to lead lap after lap by a slight margin.  On lap 18 the three racers squeezed together on the back stretch with Lemmens caught in the middle as both his front tires were off the ground.  The three separated enough for Lemmens to get all four tires back on the track and continued on with their three-wide battle. 

As the checkered flag flew, somehow Nolan found enough grip in the track to inch ahead.  Nolan held the lead for probably 10 feet, but it was enough to get the win over Frederick by 13 thousandth’s of a second, less than the blink of an eye.  Lemmens would have to settle for third.

Jeffrey Teske also got win number four in the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods while Mike Mullen raced to his first local Friesen Performance IMCA Modified win of 2022.

Lamberies roars to Shawano feature win

(May 4) – Lucas Lamberies may be a rookie in the IMCA Modified division, but the three-time Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod champion certainly knows his way around the Historic Half-mile.   Lamberies showed that the change in division was no obstacle in winning races as he outdueled his good friend Wyatt Block with a last-lap pass for the feature win Saturday at Shawano Speed­way.  Block battled Brekken Kleinschmidt side-by-side for the first two laps with Kleinschmidt leading lap one while Block led lap two by a bumper.  Lap three saw Block begin to put some distance between himself and the field.  With Block leading, the action behind him was hot between Kleinschmidt, Konnor Wilinski, Lamber­ies, and Marcus Yarie. Lamberies, Kleinschmidt, and Wilinski exchanged second through fourth numerous times throughout the race as Block looked to be in control.   A late-race caution flag brought out a restart with only three laps remaining. Over the final two laps, Lamberies went to the high side of the track and ran down Block. A slight bobble by Block [Read More]

Mullen captures third straight on Bob Bennett Memorial Night

By Dave Buss SHAWANO, Wis. (May 1) – On Saturday night, Shawano Speedway celebrated its Night of Champions, honoring the 2020 championship class. Webster’s Dictionary defines a champion as ‘someone who fights or speaks publicly in support of a person, belief, cause.’  Before the races, another champion’s life was honored as Bobby Bennett was remembered. Although Bennett never won a track championship at Shawano, it was only appropriate to honor his life on the Night of Champions. The IMCA Modifieds took to the track to open the features with Mike Mullen trying to extend his season-opening win streak to three. Kevin Feck looked to be the man to end the streak early on as he led the opening five laps.  Further back in the pack, Andy Karl and Marcus Yarie, along with Jerry and Konnor Wilinski were waging a spirited battle with three-wide racing and competing slide jobs. Clements notches first career victory

By Scott Owen SHAWANO, Wis. (June 16) – Second-generation racer Bryce Clements scored his first Karl Chevro­let Northern SportMod career feature win Saturday night at Shawano Speedway. The win was an early Father’s Day gift for his dad Scott, a former local sportsman racer. Kaden Besaw led the early stages while Clements fell in line behind him. Clements used the out­side line to his advantage to take the lead on lap three and Kyle Raddant soon began to battle Besaw for second. Raddant eventually would get past Besaw, as would Jordan Barkholtz. The race was marred by a se­ries of late cautions but Clements survived every challenge. Multi-time track champion Eddie Muenster scored his first local IMCA Modified win of the year and Travis Van Straten brought home win number four in IMCA Sunoco Stock Car action.
