SHAWANO, Wis. (Aug. 1) – On a Saturday night when drivers and fans united at the track to battle a common enemy, childhood cancer, Racing for a Reason again delivered a victory at Shawano Speedway.
With donation baskets and silent auction items galore, more than $16,000 was raised while on the track, the action in one word … incredible!
A caution on the initial start of the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car Feature was the only time the yellow flew as the action-packed class lived up to its Too Tough To Tame reputation. While Gary Kasparek took the early lead the racing behind him was what everyone comes to see.
Chucky Forstner took the top spot with Jeremy Christians moving to second on lap seven. The two fought side-by-side for the next five laps until Christians grabbed the lead for good on lap 11. Christians drove away and picked up his 99th IMCA career win in the division. Forstner settled in second with Travis Van Straten third.
The Karl Kustoms Northern Sport Mods hit the track with Jeff Schmuhl looking to continue his hot streak on the legendary half-mile. Andy Klosterman took the lead from the pole and led until Schmuhl snuck by him on lap eight.
It appeared Schmuhl was well on his way to another victory when mechanical issues took him out of the event on lap 11. On the restart, Teagan Wudstruck took the top spot with Tyler Sobiescyk grabbing second. Sobiescyk was briefly in front before Jayden Schmidt joined the party and took the lead. Schmidt rocketed to another win with Sobiescyk second and Wudstruck third.
The IMCA Modifieds racing for $1,300 to win and a Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot berth provided the third green-to-checkered feature event.
Tyler Wilson was grateful that all that action was behind him as he led all 20 laps for the win. Action behind the leader was filled with three-wide racing, slide jobs and multiple groove tracks. In the end, Marcus Yarie took home second with Wyatt Block third.
