DONNELLSON, Iowa (June 24, 2022) – Nick Marolf and Denny Eckrich were both $1,000 feature winners in round four of Drive For 5 Friday night at Lee County Speedway.

Ray Raker and Darin Weisinger Jr. led the field to green in the 25-lap IMCA Sunoco Late Model main, with Weisinger sliding past Raker on lap two to take over the top spot.

Coming off turn two to complete lap eight, Marolf went three-wide off the top of the track to emerge with the lead, with Chuck Hanna moving into the runner-up spot one lap later. Hanna’s run up front came to an end on lap 16, as he slowed and pulled into the pits with mechanical troubles. 

This handed the second spot to Dalton Simonsen. Without a caution to bunch the field there was no catching Marolf on this night, as he went on to score the $1,000 victory. Tommy Elston came from 10th to finish third.

Dennis LaVeine paced the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified field early on while the fifth starting Eckrich worked his way toward the front.

Eckrich motored past Bill Roberts Jr. for the runner-up spot then drove under LaVeine for the lead on lap 10. The event would caution-free, as Eckrich pulled away to claim his first win of the season at Lee County Speedway plus $1,000 and Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational qualifying eligibility.

LaVeine was second and Austen Becerra came from 13th to third.

Logan Anderson led every lap in topping the Drive For 3 feature for Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods. Josh Foster was the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car winner and Barry Taft was the photo finish winner in the Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compact main event.

Next Drive For Five qualifier is Friday at Lee County

DONNELLSON, Iowa ­– IMCA Sunoco Late Models and IMCA Modifieds both race for $1,000 to win in their next Drive For Five qualifier this Friday at Lee County Speedway. The June 25 feature is a Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier for the Modifieds. IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods and Mach-1 Sport Compacts are also on the card. Pit gates open at 5:30 p.m. and hot laps are at 7 p.m. with racing to follow. Grandstand admission is $10 for adults, $9 for seniors 60 and over, $5 for students ages 11-17 and veterans, and free for kids 10 and under. Pit passes are $30, or $20 for kids ages 7-13, $10 for kids ages 4-6 and $5 for three and under.  The Friday show at Donnellson will be broadcast by DoneRight.TV.  The track website is www.leecountyspeedway.com.

IMCA Late Model drivers chase Sunoco bonuses at Lee County, 34 Raceway

DONNELLSON, Iowa (Aug. 1, 2023) – IMCA Late Model drivers will have two opportunities to win bonuses from Sunoco Race Fuels this weekend. The division title sponsor gives $250 to feature winners Friday, Aug. 4 at Lee County Speedway and Saturday, Aug. 5 at 34 Raceway in West Burlington. Friday sees Late Models racing for $1,000 to win their Drive For 5 qualifier at Donnellson, where pit passes are $30 for adults, $20 for kids ages 7-13, $10 for kids ages 4-6 and $5 for three and under. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. with hot laps at 7 p.m. and racing to follow. Saturday’s 34 For Kids Night show starts with a driver meet n’ greet and ends with fireworks, with bags of school supplies to be given away and bicycles and other prizes awarded to young fans in between. Callahan, Carter collect Drive For Five qualifier wins at Lee County

By Brian Neal  DONNELLSON, Iowa (April 30) – Joel Callahan and Cayden Carter took home $1,000 checks from Lee County Speedway’s first Drive For Five qualifier of the season Friday night.  Callahan and Ben Seemann drew front row starts for the IMCA Sunoco Late Model 25-lapper and it was Callahan jumping into the lead on lap one over Seemann and Matt Strassheim. While Seemann tried to stay in Callahan’s tire tracks, the rest of the field was racing all over for positions behind them. Callahan’s fast pace put him into lapped traffic on lap 14 and this allowed Seemann to close in.  Callahan was able to maneuver the lapped traffic without any problems however and pulled away over the later part of the caution-free race to score the top prize. Seemann finished second, Logan Duffy was third and Tommy Elston was fourth, with Strassheim fifth.
