DONNELLSON, Iowa (May 7, 2022) – Veteran Chuck Hanna and rookie Austen Becerra were IMCA Drive For 5 winners, while Dylan VanWyk took Drive For 3 honors at Lee County Speedway.

All three earned $1,000 for their Saturday night efforts, Becerra’s checkers making him Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational qualifying eligible as well.

The 25-lap IMCA Sunoco Late Model Drive For 5 feature opened with Dustin Schram and Hanna leading the field to green. Schram led lap one, only to have Hanna power past to grab the top spot on lap two.

The first and only caution of the race appeared on lap three and on the ensuing restart, Hanna jumped back out front with Denny Woodworth taking the runner-up spot.

While Hanna set the fast pace out front, ninth starting Tommy Elston used lapped traffic to move into second. There was no catching Hanna, however, as he went on to claim the win. Schram got back by Woodworth late to finish third.

Becerra and Jardin Fuller led the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified field to green with Becerra taking advantage of his draw to grab the early lead over Fuller and Dennis LaVeine. 

Action was slowed for the only time by a caution on lap four. Daniel Fellows and Bill Roberts Jr. moved to second and third, respectively, on the restart and by halfway Mark Burgtorf joined the battle for the runner-up spot, as Becerra was pulling away.

With 5 laps to go Burgtorf climbed into second but there weren’t enough laps left to track down Becerra. Fellows was third.

Dylan VanWyk and Adam Birck drew the front row in the Drive For 3 feature for Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods, with VanWyk setting a blistering pace that had him in lapped traffic just six laps into the race. 

Just when it looked like the race would go green to checkered, the only caution of the contest appeared on lap 18. VanWyk stayed strong in winning ahead of Brayton Carter and Logan Anderson.

Damon Murty was the $1,000 IMCA Sunoco Stock Car winner and Jason Ash held off Brandon Reu for the victory in the caution-free Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compact main event.

Murty is newly eligible to qualify for the B & B Racing Chassis All-Star Invitational.

Carter banks $5K in Drive For 5 finale for IMCA Modifieds at Lee County Speedway

By Brian Neal DONNELLSON, Iowa (Aug. 20) – Cayden Carter drove to the $5,000 IMCA Modified win at Lee County Speedway’s Friday night Drive For 5 finale.  After two rounds of passing point heat races, Steve Picou and Chris Zogg earned the most points to start the 50-lap Hinkle Auto Sales Drive For 5 main event from the front row. Zogg took advantage of his starting spot to jump out into the lead on lap one over Picou and Carter.  On lap three, Carter overtook Picou to move into the runner-up spot and then went to work on Zogg for the lead.  Action was slowed on laps four and five for spinning cars and Zogg shot to the front on the ensuing restarts with Carter and Picou close behind.  Carter made the move into the top spot on lap eight as fifth-place starter Austin Howes moved in to challenge Zogg for second. IMCA Late Models, IMCA Modifieds will both Drive For Five, $5,000 paydays at Lee County

DONNELLSON, Iowa – IMCA Sunoco Late Model and IMCA Modified drivers will both Drive For Five at Pepsi Lee County Speedway in 2021.  Seven qualifying features are scheduled for each division, with $5,000 to win main events for the Modifieds on Friday, Aug. 20 and for the Late Models on Saturday, Sept. 11.  Drivers in both divisions must compete at a minimum of five qualifying features to be eligible for the $5,000 winner’s shares in the respective finales.  All seven Late Model qualifiers will pay $1,000 to win; payout for the Modifieds is to be announced. The Aug. 20 finale will be a Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier.  Drive For Five dates are Fridays April 2, April 30, May 14, June 25 and July 2; Saturday, July 31; and Friday, Aug. 6. Elston, Zogg top IMCA Drive For 5 features at Lee County

By Brian Neal DONNELLSON, Iowa (June 10, 2022) – Lee County Speedway got the best of Mother Nature and Tommy Elston and Chris Zogg got the best of their round two Drive For 5 foes Friday at Lee County Speedway.  Elston pocketed $1,000 for his Iowa Corn Growers Association IMCA Sunoco Late Model victory, while Friesen Performance IMCA Modified winner Zogg took home a grand and became eligible to qualify for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. Denny Woodworth and C.J. Horn drew the front row for the Late Model headliner. Just when Woodworth started to put some distance on the battles going on behind him, the first and only caution of the race appeared on lap five.  On the restart, Woodworth jumped back out front, with Horn and the seventh starting Elston close behind.
