Ellithorpe repeats as champion in record-setting Sport Compact feature

BOONE, Iowa (Sept. 3) – He was driving a new car but the results were the same. Jacob Ellithorpe repeated as Sport Compact champion at the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s. He took the $260 checkers more than a straightaway ahead of his closest pursuit Tuesday night at Boone Speedway. The 25-lapper ran caution-free. Chuck Fullenkamp and Brad Chandler each led a single circuit before the 11th starting Ellithorpe made his way to the front to stay. 2011 champion Nathan Chandler, Brad Chandler and Merv Chandler completed the top four. Mitch Bolton was fifth. “I knew the Chandlers were back there and that they’d be coming,” Ellithorpe said following his successful return to Boone. “When I got into lapped traffic, I tried to watch five cars ahead of me and then run where they weren’t.” “I didn’t think I’d be able to get through the middle alive and get to the front,” he added, “but I got lucky.” A Super Nationals record 63 Sport Compacts vied Tuesday and the 30-car main event [Read More]

Kay captures national IMCA Late Model championship

VINTON, Iowa (Aug. 30) – Winning a track championship was the goal Justin Kay set for himself at the start of the 2013 season. He accomplished that and much more. Kay won a division-best 16 weekly features, as well as titles at Davenport Speedway and Jackson County Speedway on the way to his career first national IMCA Late Model crown. “The national championship was always on our mind but our main goal this year was to get a track championship,” said Kay, who celebrated his 25th birthday just four days after the season ended. “We knew if we could do that at Davenport we’d be doing good in national points.” Kay earns a $5,500 share of the $21,300 point fund that will be paid to top 20 finishers in the final divisional point standings, which become official on Sept. 23. Runner-up for a third consecutive year, 1997 and 2002 national king Todd Cooney won a dozen times and earned track titles at the Iowa State Fairgrounds Speedway, Southern Iowa Speedway and Stuart Speedway. Championship Night Friday at Oshkosh

OSHKOSH, Wis. – It’s the final laps of the 2013 racing season at Oshkosh Speedzone. After an exciting and successful season at the 1/3-mile clay oval, the raceway is ready to determine a new class of champions. First up tonight (Friday, Aug. 30) is the LaSaure’s Banquet Hall season championship night at the races. Season-long point battles will come to an end and the champions in each of the five weekly divisions will be named. The point battles in three classes are exceptionally tight and will likely not be settled until the final checker flag drops. The Automotive Supply Company IMCA Modifieds have seen the Jerovetz family atop the standings for most of the year as cousins Troy and Sean Jerovetz have fought tooth and nail for the title. Sean, by virtue of his win last week, managed to put a five point gap between himself and Troy. Both drivers have a solid cushion on Marcus Yarie who sits third in the standings, so the outcome is all but assured the Jerovetz name will be [Read More]

Matt White survived a wild last lap, four-car battle to earn his first victory of the year in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks. Chanse Hollatz and White were door-to-door heading into the final lap when Weston Koop and Cory Gansen join the fight for the lead in turn number three.
