Van Straten, Lamberies win Seymour openers

SEYMOUR, Wis. (May 22) – The 2016 season kicked off Sunday night at Seymour Raceway Park with the first IMCA wins going to Travis Van Straten and Lucas Lamberies. Eric Arneson sat on the pole for the 30-lap Coors Light IMCA Stock Car headliner and led the first four laps before defending national champion Van Straten slipped by. A couple laps later, Kyle Frederick moved into the runner-up spot and set his sights on the leader. After the mid-point, Van Straten held a length or two lead with Frederick attacking from the outside line.  As lapped cars entered the picture, the pair had to work traffic as well as watch each other. The final 10 laps were a dog fight with the pair side-by-side and holding their preferred line much of that time. With three laps left, Frederick was finally able to get ahead to be scored as the leader. As they picked up the white flag a pair of slower cars were in the path in turn two. In a scramble to get by, Van Straten was somehow [Read More]

Hackett wins by bumper at 141

By Greg Aregoni FRANCIS CREEK, Wis. (May 21) – Tyler Hackett only led one lap in Saturday’s Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature at 141 Speedway. It just happened to be the most important one as Hackett beat Russ Reinwald by mere inches at the line to pick up his first win of the season. Reinwald started up front and was hooked up down low while Hackett took the initial green from 12th. Reinwald blew away the field and left the battle for second as a couple cautions would not halt the leader in continuing to pull away. Hackett ran the extreme top of the race track to get to the front, going four-wide and then three-wide to get into the top five. He found himself in second with seven laps remaining and facing a straightaway disadvantage. Reinwald stayed down low with lapped cars slowing his progress and allowing Hackett to get to his bumper as the yellow flag flew with two laps remaining.  On the restart, Hackett charged hard up on top and edged Reinwald [Read More]

IMCA Stock Car 500 engine option won’t be claimable

VINTON, Iowa – IMCA Sunoco Stock Car drivers running with the 500 cfm engine option will not be subject to engine claims, effective immediately for all sanctioned weekly, special and special series events during the 2016 calendar year. “Our executive committee has had an extensive amount of discussion as to the necessity of the engine claim with this particular engine option. Based on the specificity of the 500 cfm engine rules, costs have been reasonably contained,” explained IMCA President Brett Root. “The 500 cfm option has a tighter set of parameters than the 350 that address cost control.” “Since 2005 we have offered a non-claimable engine option in nearly every other IMCA division,” he added. “It makes sense to do this in the Stock Car division as well. With no crate engine option available, the 500 cfm carburetor option makes the most sense for us to make this decision in regard to.” “For this reason and the low occurrence of engine claims in the Stock Car division last year, it makes sense for us to [Read More]

Hammock gave chase throughout the feature and despite being nervous starting on the pole, Melton was up to the challenge. “I tend to psych myself out when I start on the pole plus I had people like John Carney behind me who has been dominating the 305 stuff and you sit and think about how you need to drive,” said Melton, who has been racing Sprint Cars for five years off and on due to school with 2016 being a full-time driver. Hammock and third-starting Carney were closing the gap midway. With five laps to go, the red flag waved for a Chad [Read More]
