Thornton at head of the class at Canyon

(July 30) – Ricky Thornton Jr. took Saturday night’s headline win at Canyon Speed­way Park by racing to victory lane in the Allscapes Back to School special atop the 1/3-mile clay oval. Thornton made a return to the desert and denied Jason Noll a third consecutive win in Arizona Differential IMCA Modified action by topping the 20-lap feature. He rallied from 11th to capture his first Canyon score since topping February’s Desert Classic with Noll setting for runner-up honors from seventh.  Joey Moriarty was third with Chaz Baca, Jr. charg­ing from 18th to fourth and Mike Strobl rounding out the top five.

Ray collects Cottage Grove checkers 

By Ben Deatherage COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (July 30) – Daniel Ray raced to his first local Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod checkers Saturday at Cottage Grove Speedway. Ray led from lap six to the checkers. Bobby McHargue finished an impressive second and Andrew Mathers was third.  Brandon Letsom ended the night fourth and fifth was Chris Frisbie.

Win number four for Braaten at Southern Oregon

(July 30) – Taking the lead early on from David Marble, Jorddon Braaten went on to win his fourth Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod main event of the season Saturday at Southern Oregon Speedway. Mike Medel made a charge from 11th starting to finish second. The rookie Marble got his night started with a win ahead of Braaten in the trophy dash, then raced into the lead at the start of the feature as Tony Bartell settled into second. Braaten made a low pass to take second from Bartell. Jimmy Lipke took over third a lap later. Braaten pursued Marble closely until making the pass in turn four of the sixth lap to take the lead.  Lipke followed closely into second. Medel made a low pass on the 10th lap to take fifth from Doug Franklin.  However, the two made contact with Medel spinning for a yellow flag. By Ben Deatherage LEBANON, Ore. (July 30) – Kyle Yeack was the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified winner on Fan Appreciation Night Saturday at Willamette Speedway. Rod McCombs was the early race leader but could not keep Yeack in check. Once in front, Yeack pulled away for his second local victory of the season.

Dart daggers IMCA Modified competition at 141

(July 30) – Todd Dart put his name in the win column in the Xtreme Mo­tor Sports IMCA Modified division Saturday at 141 Speedway.  Dart fended off late-race chal­lenges from Johnny Whitman and Jeremy Jacobs to take home the win. Kyle Kudick was looking for a second straight win as he took the lead on lap two. Kudick contin­ued to lead until a caution on lap 13 put everyone to his bumper.  On the restart, Dart and Jacobs found the speed they needed to take the top two spots. Dart ran the bottom with Jacobs on top for the next few circuits. Whitman joined the duo to make it a three-car race. A caution with four laps remaining created a dash for the Modified cash.  Dart held off final advances from both Whitman and Jacobs late.  Dart came across the line first with Whitman beating Jacobs for second. Two events added to Sprint Series of Oklahoma schedule

Sprint Series of Oklahoma adds two dates OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – Officials with the Sprint Series of Oklahoma IMCA Racesaver Series are proud to announce two additions to the inaugural 2016 schedule. The first schedule addition will see the tour make its second appearance of the season at Brill Motor Speedway in Meeker on Saturday, Aug. 27. When the series last visited the ¼-mile, red-clay oval back on April 23 it was Jake Martens picking up the victory over a 19-car field. Also added will be a return trip to Oklahoma Sports Park in Ada on Saturday, Sept. 24. This event is tentatively slated to be the season-ending point race for the series, pending a Sept. 25 addition. 116 cars pack pits for Dubuque County Fair races

By Jerry Mackey DUBUQUE, Iowa (July 31) – The 63rd annual Dubuque County Fair came to a close on Sunday, July 31 with racing action featuring a season-high 116 cars. The large crowd was treated to an excellent night of racing on a beautiful night for the County Fair curtain call. Tyler Droste won the Out-Pace Racing Products IMCA Late Model main ahead of Chuck Hanna and Joel Callahan while the Merfeld Brothers Automotive IMCA Modified top three were Justin Kay, Jason Schueller and Jeremiah Hurst. The IMCA Sunoco Stock Car winner was David Brandies with Jerry Miles second and Roger Ciesiel­ski third. The finish for the GSI Collision Specialists IMCA Northern SportMod feature saw Troy Bauer first, followed by Tyler Soppe and Dalton Simonsen.

Ware sprints to Fast Friday checkers at Dixieland

(July 29) – After having to miss several spring races due to changing jobs, Chris Ware came back strong and led start to finish in winning the second Virginia Sprint Series Fast Friday event of the year at Dixieland Speedway. Bill Rice and Ware paced the IMCA EMI RaceSaver Sprint Car field to green with Ware going to the top and getting out first. Ware was on rails as Rice tried lap after lap to find an opening. Troy Severin got to third at half­way and joined the party. Ware wasn’t making any mistakes and Severin was all over Rice in the race for second as the white flag waved. Ware got a few car lengths out and Severin went low on Rice for the charge to the flag with Ware taking the win and Severin prevailing by a foot at the line for second. Feature results – 1. Schneider celebrates birthday, Oshkosh checkers 

OSHKOSH, Wis. (July 29) – Tim Schneider celebrated his birthday and the Nolte’s Auto Repair and Towing IMCA Sport Mod feature win at Oshkosh SpeedZone Raceway. Jason Ebert took control of the main event while Schneider worked from mid-pack through tight traffic into the runner-up spot.  Tim Sheppard, Kevin Bethke and Scott Besaw were right behind. A lap eight caution slowed the field and Schneider remained right behind after the restart with Bethke, Adam Peschek, Besaw and Brock Saunders in line. Schneider dipped inside at the line on lap 15 and eased into the lead in turn one. A final restart on lap 16 allowed Schneider to pull away from the field as a dogfight for second lasted to the finish. Ryan Besaw moved up over the final laps to take second. Jason Vandenberg made a solid run on the outside to take third place, his best finish of the season. Bethke and Ebert completed the top five.
