Wolfgram becomes first-time Modified winner at Boone

BOONE, Iowa (July 23) – Al Wolfgram grabbed his first career win in the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified division Saturday at Boone Speedway. Veteran Robert Avery held the lead on lap one but by lap two, it was Wolfgram snatching it away.  He soon had Jimmy Gustin coming at him on the top side fast and furiously. After several laps of side-by-side racing, Gustin momentarily took the top spot, only to have Wolfgram retake the lead by the time the next lap was scored. The chase continued with Gustin giving it his all in the attempt to get around the leader.  Hitting a rut in corner one with just a couple of laps remaining, sent Gustin backwards and gave Wolfgram breathing room on his road to the checkers. Point leader Mike Van Genderen came from the 12th starting spot and worked his way to a second-place finish. Chris Webb finished in third, fourth was Tony Cox, and Russ Dickerson came from 10th to round out the top five. Wayne Gifford won by a comfortable [Read More]

KNOXVILLE, Iowa (July 21) – Justin Kay has got his Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified figured out. Just ask the rest of the main event field in Thursday’s Hawkeye Dirt Tour at Knoxville Raceway. The victory was Kay’s tour career first and third in the sanctioned division this season, and paid $1,500. “It was fun. We unloaded the car and it was great, and that track is so big and fast,” said Kay, who’d had limited success in three previous Late Model starts at Knoxville. “It was really cool to win there, especially since it was my first Hawkeye Dirt Tour win and because of the relationship we have with Dynamic Drivelines. We were one of their very first customers.” Forty-four Modifieds and 52 Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods saw action on a muggy night at Knoxville. Curtis VanDerWal topped the $1,000 to win SportMod feature. Kay started from the pole and had the field [Read More]
