By Brian Neal DONNELLSON, Iowa (May 10) – Dakota Simmons raced to the first IMCA Modified victory of his career Friday at Pepsi Lee County Speedway. Levi Smith and Simmons led the field to green in the Budweiser IMCA Modified feature, with Simmons grabbing the early lead. Simmons started to pull away from the rest of the field before the first and only caution appeared on lap eight. On the restart, Simmons jumped back out front with Bill Roberts Jr. and John Oliver Jr. close behind. Oliver got past Roberts on lap 10 but by then Simmons had built up a straightaway lead. Coming to the white flag, Oliver had cut Simmons’ lead down to about three car lengths but that was as close as he could get, as Simmons went on to claim his first career Modified win. Welch gets first Sprint win of season in new ride

CLEVELAND, Texas (May 4) – After back-to-back second-place finishes in a new car, Dustyn Welch drove to his first Southern United Sprints feature win of the season Saturday at 105 Speedway. The runner-up in April IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car shows at 105 Speedway and Golden Triangle Raceway Park, Welch returned to Cleveland and had checked out on the rest of the field before a late caution.  “The adjustment has been great,” Welch said of his Wayne Brown Motorsports/Full Serv. International ride. “I think that probably has something to do with being more comfortable in this car.” He’d started the 20-lapper from outside the second row, went to the bottom to take the lead on the second circuit and then used multiple lines in lapping up to the sixth place car.  A caution with three laps to go bunched everybody back up, but Welch pulled away again and took the checkers ahead of Tyler Harris and John Ricketts.  Feature results – 1. Dustyn Welch; 2. Tyler Harris; 3. John Ricketts; 4. Daniel King; 5. Rod Craddock; 6. [Read More]

Tulare checkers are Pombo’s Western RaceSaver first

TULARE, Calif. (May 4) – Michael Pombo didn’t lead the most laps, just the one that mattered the most Saturday at Thunderbowl Raceway.  Pombo passed older brother Albert on the final circuit of a caution-free 25-lap contest to win his career-first Western RaceSaver Sprint Series feature. He’d run third most of the way, catching Mauro Simone for second on the 18th lap; Pombo made his move to the front coming out of turn two on the white flag lap and took the checkers by a margin of just over three tenth’s of a second. “It was like a dream come true. Ever since I was a kid, it’s always been one of my dreams to win a Sprint Car race,” said Pombo, promptly congratulated by his brother. “The first thing I thought when the race was over was ‘Holy cow, did this really happen?’ Especially at Tulare. Cesar conquers 141 Stock Car opener

By Greg Aregoni FRANCIS CREEK, Wis. (May 4) – Brian Cesar liked the idea of starting up front in the season-opening IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature at 141 Speedway. He liked even better that every lap led was $30. Cesar decided to take charge of the show and led every lap en route to the 20 lap win. Cesar had to take every challenge that former champion Brett Wenzel threw at him. Wenzel used various lines to try and get around Cesar but could never get enough momentum. Cesar took home $910 for the win which included lap leader money. Wenzel settled for second.  Benji LaCrosse already has his new car figured out early, dominating a stacked field of 38 IMCA Modifieds. The win netted him a $990 pay day, which included lap leader money and extra money from Ricky Lemmens.  A late caution set up a green, white, checkered finish in the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod feature, won by Ryan Lemieux.  Shaun Bangart won the 15-lap Mach-1 Sport Compact feature.
