Who’s who in California IMCA racing at Ocean as Hogge wins career fifth Pettit

WATSONVILLE, Iowa (Sept. 25-26) – Bobby Hogge IV stood in victory lane at Ocean Speedway after the IMCA Modified finish that had everybody talking. Hogge chased race-long leader Troy Foulger, then made his last-lap move to the front on the higher line for the $3,006 checkers on night two of the Pettit Shootout at Watsonville. The Pettit win was Hogge’s fifth in the 10 years the special, one of the premier events in IMCA’s Shaw Race Cars Western Region, has been held. “Any time you get a win it’s special and we had almost the whole who’s who in California racing was here this weekend,” the Salinas veteran said, noting the 60-plus IMCA Modifieds and 50-plus Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods entered in the season-ending special. “Ocean is my home track. Belec best in Modifieds, Tubbs tops Stocks at Sherman Co.’s IMCA Flatlander Classic

GOODLAND, Kan. (Sept. 26) – Eddie Belec got the monkey off his back, Jeff Tubbs got to the track on time and both got paid $1,500 for their Saturday IMCA feature wins at Sherman County Speedway’s Flatlander Classic. Belec led all 20 laps in the IMCA Modified main, outrunning cousin Dominic Ursetta and Greg Gustus. His Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying win was his IMCA first since July of 19. “It had been a little while since I won at Goodland. It had been a little while since I won, period,” Belec said. You never know when you’re going to win again. IMCA wins at 49th Stampede go to Arneson, Strand, Pavlicek, Medler

JAMESTOWN, N.D. (Sept. 25-26) – Winning the most prestigious race in North Dakota? Awesome. Getting to see your name on the T-shirt they’ll sell next September at the big Jamestown Speedway special? Almost as good. Austin Arneson added to his Stock Car Stampede trophy collection while Shawn Strand, Rich Pavlicek and Darren Medler all started theirs with feature wins at the 49th annual event. Arneson topped Friday’s $1,500 to win IMCA Modified feature and Strand joined him on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot with Saturday’s $2,000 checkers. Pavlicek and Medler both earned $1,000 for Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod victories. Fifty-five Modifieds vied both nights. RPM Fall Nationals features $5,000 to win IMCA Modified main event

HAYS, Kan. – RPM Speedway puts the wraps on 2020 with its rich Fall Nationals presented by Nutrien Ag Solutions special Friday and Saturday, Oct. 2 and 3, topped by the $5,000 to win main event for IMCA Modifieds. The Saturday feature is a 2021 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier and pays $2,500 for second, $1,500 for third and $1,000 for fourth with a minimum of $400 paid to start. Also on the card for the 14th annual Fall Nationals are IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars racing for $3,000 to win and $250 to start; Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods for $2,000 to win and $175 to start, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks for $1,500 to win and $175 to start, and Mach-1 Sport Compacts for $400 to win and $50 to start. Awesome, exhilarating Wild West Tour wins for Delp, Hale at Desert Thunder

PRICE, Utah (Sept. 25-26) – Two IMCA Modified drivers saw droughts come to an end during the final 1st Class Chassis Wild West Tour twinbill of the season at Desert Thunder Raceway. Casey Delp led every lap of the Friday show, scoring his career second tour win and first in 16 series starts. On Saturday, Michael Hale raced to a career fourth tour checkers and first in 19 WWMT starts. Both drivers put their names on the 2021 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot with their $1,200 victories. “It was a huge win for me. I was pretty amped up,” said Delp, the opening night winner ahead of defending tour champion Zane DeVilbiss. “Zane is the wheelman at Price. The dude is fast. BOONE, Iowa – Being part of the biggest and best event in all of dirt track racing paid off again big-time for IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s competitors. 2020 IMCA National Awards banquet canceled

LINCOLN, Neb. – In light of restrictions now in place and uncertainty regarding future Covid-19 guidelines, IMCA officials have announced the difficult decision to cancel the national awards banquet to have been held Nov. 28 in Lincoln, Neb. “This decision needs to be made today and currently, we would be limited to 50 percent capacity, or approximately 300 people, to hold our banquet at the Marriott Cornhusker,” explained IMCA President Brett Root. “The IMCA national banquet draws an annual attendance of nearly 600 IMCA members, families and friends. Limiting the attendance would force IMCA to choose which champions should attend and we are not going to be placed in that situation. Table seating also becomes quite problematic regarding the permitted group size restrictions. Based on the group settings, it’s challenging to seat people with people they do not know. Engine auction adds $18,200 to Super Nationals main event purse

BOONE, Iowa – Proceeds from the auction of champions’ engines added another $18,200 to the main event purse paid at the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s. Stock Car champion Donavon Smith’s engine sold for $6,400, so each of the other 29 starters in that event get another $220.69 on top of their purse shares. Northern SportMod champion Johnathon Logue saw his engine gavel at $5,600, translating to $193.11 shares for each of the other 29 drivers in that race. Top bid for the engine that took Nathan Ballard to the Hobby Stock title was $3,300. The other 29 drivers in that race each receive $113.80. Modified champion Ricky Thornton Jr.’s engine sold for $2,900. The other 32 starters in that minimum $1,000 to start race each get an additional $90.63. Thornton, Logue and Ballard all received new crate engines from Karl Kustoms. Smith went home with an engine built by Midstate Machine with parts contributed by IMCA and event sponsors. 2020 IMCA point season ends Sunday, Sept. 27

VINTON, Iowa – The 2020 IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing point season ends this Sunday, Sept. 27. Final points races will be held that day for sanctioned Modifieds, Late Models, Sprint Cars, Stock Cars, Hobby Stocks, Northern SportMods, Southern SportMods and Sport Compacts. Bonus points will be figured and national and regional champions and rookies of the year announced as soon as possible. Local track officials have until noon Central Standard Time on Monday, Oct. 26 to notify IMCA of corrections that affect their top 15 point standings before all standings for those divisions become official. Aikey, Carter cash in with IMCA Modified wins at World Nationals

By Joyce Eisele MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (Sept. 18-19) – Jeff Aikey and Cayden Carter were $2,000 IMCA Modified feature winners at Marshalltown Speedway’s 14th annual World Nationals. Aikey made it back-to-back trips to victory lane, following his Thursday night Dale DeFrance Memorial IMCA Late Model victory in the 500th and final Summer Series event. Carter joined Aikey on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot with the Saturday checkers. Aikey drew the pole for Friday’s 25-lap feature and led the entire race to take the win. Carter and Ethan Dotson challenged Aikey several times, but he fended them off. Carter finished second and Dotson took third, followed by Todd Shute and 18th place starter Tim Ward was fifth. J.D. Auringer paced the opening laps on Saturday but Carter quickly moved from his fifth starting position and into the lead.
