BOONE, Iowa (May 29) – Jesse Sobbing couldn’t have asked for a much better weekend than this. After hearing his name called as winner of the $250 Sunoco Race Fuels feature qualifier drawing, Sobbing went out and won the 40-lap Deery Brothers Summer Series main event at Boone Speedway’s Memorial Day special. The IMCA Late Model tour victory paid $2,000 and was the career first for Sobbing, who has already done his share of winning and then some in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod and IMCA Modified divisions. “At the end of last year, we decided we were going to race an IMCA Late Model and one of our goals was to try and win a few of these races. Now we’ve got one,” he said. “We’ve been right with these guys and it feels good to be able to get a win.” Sobbing started third and admittedly got a little anxious as he worked his way to the front of the field. “It seemed like once we got into the lead, around midway, there [Read More]
VINTON, Iowa (May 29) – A driver accustomed to winning on IMCA’s biggest stages did so again Monday night. Jimmy Gustin won the IMCA Modified feature on opening night for the Arnold Motor Supply Hawkeye Dirt Tour at Benton County Speedway. The victory was his first-ever at Vinton, his first since the death of his grandfather Dale DeFrance last week and his career 100th in the division. “Winning tonight means a lot to me. We definitely had the right guy watching over us,” Gustin said after the $1,000 to win 35-lapper brought an end to the Memorial Day show. “I’m proud of the accomplishment (winning 100 career features) and joining an elite group of drivers. This is all I needed to get my confidence back. Now we’ve got to start toward 200 wins.” The only caution of the race came on the fourth circuit. Late Model regular John Emerson led the first 17 times around the oval, then got caught behind a slower car and watched Gustin drive by. Hunter Marriott, the $2,000 winner at Vinton [Read More]
By Brian Neal DONNELLSON, Iowa (May 26) – John Oliver Jr. took home two trophies Friday night, after winning Donnellson Tire & Service IMCA Stock Car and Shottenkirk Parts Express IMCA Northern SportMod features at Lee County Speedway. After getting the lead on lap 15, Oliver held off Jason Cook the last three circuits to gain the Stock Car victory. Oliver ran in front every circuit in collecting the Northern SportMod checkers. Michael Long was fastest in a big field of IMCA Modifieds and won in front of Hunter Marriott and Colby Springsteen. Brandon Lambert prevailed in the caution-free Armstrong Tractor IMCA Sport Compact main event. Twenty cars comprised the starting field for that 15-lapper.
By Scott Owen SHAWANO, Wis. (May 27) – Lucas Lamberies landed his second Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod victory of the season at Shawano Speedway Saturday night. Kelsy Hayes snagged the lead on the opening lap and was challenged early by Jeff Schmuhl before the 10th starting Lamberies raced his way to second near midway. After a lap 12 restart, Lamberies got to the outside of Hayes and the pair ran side-by-side for a lap before Lamberies secured the top spot. Lamberies went on to win and Hayes finished second followed by Jordan Barkholtz, Schmuhl and Jordan Bartz. In IMCA Modified action it was the “O” show for the second week in a row as Matt Oreskovich led all 20 laps of the feature for his second consecutive win. Travis Van Straten pulled away over the closing laps to win the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature.
MANDAN, N.D. (May 26) – Jeremy Keller scored his second IMCA Modified feature win of the year Friday at Dacotah Speedway over Mark Dahl. Shawn Strand finished third while Marlyn Seidler made a late race pass to finish fourth ahead of Tracy Domagala. While everyone raced alongside the guard rail, Keller decided to go to the high side. One by one, Keller picked off drivers for position and the high line gave him the extra momentum to cut into Domagala’s large lead. A caution on lap 12 was the last thing Domagala wanted to see as it put Keller and Strand on his rear bumper. It was a three-car battle for the lead on the restart but Keller took the lead with 11 laps to go. Keller started to pull away as Domagala now had his hands full with Strand and Dahl. Dahl used the high line to pass Domagala and Strand for second. Chase Schlafmann ended Jason Berg’s Mach-1 Sport Compact winning streak by a matter of inches. The front pair had to dodge [Read More]

JEFFERSON, S.D. (May 27) – Justin Zeitner prevailed over a star-studded IMCA Modified field in Saturday’s $1,000 to win Clash main event at Park Jefferson Speedway. Zeitner, already on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot, tracked down Jay Noteboom, who had won the previous night at Jackson and had a $1,000 bonus riding on him. Zeitner prevailed after a long battle with Noteboom. Josh Most, Ricky Stephan and Kelly Shryock completed the top five. The IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars made their inaugural appearance at the track a good one as drivers went green, white, checkered. Colin Smith picked up the feature win over John Lambertz and Kaleb Johnson. Travis Barker picked up the J & J Fitting IMCA Stock Car win to end Elijah Zevenbergen’s perfect streak.
