HUFFMAN, Texas (April 19, 2024) – It’s four races into the inaugural South Texas IMCA Modified Series and Promoter Jacob Hortch has already seen a lot that he likes.
The inaugural series is averaging better than 20 Modified entries, with competitive racing every night and just one repeat winner so far.
Even the T-shirt sales have been pretty good.
“We’re definitely proud of the car counts we’re bringing. These drivers are definitely putting on good shows,” Hortch said after watching Logan Dinsmore race from ninth to win the latest STIMS event, at Cotton Bowl Speedway. “We’ve seen a lot of different cars every night. I think drivers like the level of competition and the fans have been happy to see competitive IMCA Modified racing.”
“I think the tracks are happy, too.”

Chris Morris was the winner of features at I-37 Speedway and Jared Maupin topped the Texana Raceway Park lidlifter. South Texas Race Ranch is the fourth series venue with 13 more events scheduled during the 2024 IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing point season.
“Along with getting to race at different tracks, there are a couple things that drivers really like about this series. First, every race is draw/redraw,” Hortch said. “And if they can’t race with us because of work or family things, they can race with us when they can.”
His Hortch’s Speed Shop in Huffman is title sponsor for the series while On Demand Shirts (aka ODS) is sponsor of a $1,500 point fund to be boosted by proceeds from selling T-shirts, hats and hoodies available at the track on race night and online at stims.checkoutstores.com.
“We’ve definitely got our heads held high,” said Hortch, working with his father and race director John to promote the series and its drivers. “We want to build this, and maybe pick up a few new tracks and travel a little more next year.”
