Michael, Smith are Summer Nationals IMCA winners at Outlaw

By Paul Szmal DUNDEE, N.Y. (July 27-28) – Rich Michael Jr. and Brad Smith were IMCA Modified winners at Outlaw Speedway’s Scorpion Security Products Summer Nationals. Michael made the move past Keith Jack Lamphere on lap eight to take the lead in the Friday Mar­ion Decker Agency Modified show. Lamphere was left to duel with Rodney Morgan, who picked up a ride in Ray McClure’s car after engine troubles had sidelined him after the heat races. Michael was easily able to pull away for his second win in a row as Morgan took the borrowed ride to a second place finish.  Keith Jack Lamphere held off Brandon Smith at the line for third with Keith Lamphere just behind them. Will Ward led until lap 10 on Saturday, when Brad Smith made his way by for the top spot. Smith led the rest of the way to take the win over Ward, Michael, Morgan and Keith Jack Lamphere.

Ward endorses winner’s check at Outlaw 

By Paul Szmal DUNDEE, N.Y. (July 6) – Will Ward endorsed the winner’s check on Friday, Autography Night at Outlaw Speedway. Early leader Rich Karlnoski spun out of the lead on lap three of the Marion Decker Agency IMCA Modified feature, handing Brad Smith the top spot.  Ward took the lead on the restart and Smith battled with him till they made contact on lap 11, sending Smith into a spin. Ward pulled away on the restart to take the victory over Rodney Morgan, with Shawn Bruce holding off Brandon Smith for fourth.

Smith is mid-season king at Outlaw

DUNDEE, N.Y (June 15) – Brad Smith was the Marion Decker Agency IMCA Modified feature winner on mid-season championship night at Outlaw Speedway. Friday night’s main event went green to checkers with Brad Smith holding off defending track cham­pion Shawn Bruce for the victory. The win for Smith was a special one as he’d suffered a severe injury during the off-season that put his racing career in jeopardy. Brandon Smith, Will Ward and Rodney Morgan filled the remaining spots in the top five.

Ward wins again at Outlaw

(June 8) – Will Ward slid past Rich Karlnoski on the 10th circuit and cruised to his second straight Marion Decker Agency IMCA Modified feature win Friday at Outlaw Speedway. Karlnoski had taken the lead at the drop of the initial green. Brandon Smith and Rodney Morgan fought side-by-side over the finals laps for second, with Morgan getting the position at the check­ers. Completing the top five were Smith, Phil Yaw and Karlnoski.

Ward checks out on Outlaw foes

By Paul Szmal DUNDEE, N.Y. (May 25) – Will Ward was the late-night IMCA Modified winner Friday at Outlaw Speedway. The feature began with Rich Karlnoski jumping out to the lead while Ward sliced through the field to second.  After a quick yellow, Ward grabbed the lead on the restart as Rodney Morgan began to advance, getting the runner-up position just past halfway.  Morgan could not catch Ward, who took the checkers. Brad Smith overcame an early race spin to charge back to third, followed by Karlnoski and Phil Yaw. Sunrise Insulation Night at Dundee proved to be an interesting one for reasons other than racing. After completion of the heats, the track lights in turns three and four did not come on.  Refusing to give up, the track crew, with assistance from driver Ray Hyer and others, worked for two hours to solve the problem … and finally the lights came back up and the feature events began.

Ward tops IMCA Modified main at Outlaw

By Paul Szmal DUNDEE, N.Y. (May 11) – Will Ward was the winner of a caution-free Friday night IMCA Modified fea­ture at Outlaw Speedway. Rodney Morgan got the lead in the 25-lapper after a battle with pole starter Todd Stone. There was a lot of battling behind Morgan as Brandon Smith moved into second and Ward charged past Phil Yaw for third. Just past halfway, Smith and Ward moved into first and second, respectively, and battled for the lead, with Ward making a strong pass coming to the white flag for the win.

Yaw comes up big in Outlaw IMCA Modified main

By Paul Szmal DUNDEE, N.Y. (May 4) – Phil Yaw hung on for a big IMCA Modified win Friday on Little League Night at Outlaw Speedway. Phil Yaw got out ahead of Rodney Morgan.  Will Ward passed Morgan for second and almost took the lead in traffic with two to go, but Yaw held on for the win, followed by Ward, Morgan, Shawn Bruce and Tony Harris.

Another long tow to New York ends with another IMCA Modified win for A.J. Ward

By Paul Szmal and Kenny Shupp DUNDEE, N.Y. (April 21) – Another long trip to New York ended with another IMCA Modified fea­ture win for Michigan speedster A.J. Ward. The two-time defending Dirt Works Eastern Region champion chalked up his sixth victory in seven New York State starts, and career 82nd win in the division, by passing Will Ward on the last of 20 laps at Outlaw Speedway’s Spring Nationals on Saturday. A late restart helped open the door for A.J. Ward, who’d taken the initial green flag from fifth start­ing. He ran side-by-side with Will Ward before eking ahead to take the checkers by close to a cou­ple car lengths. Already on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot, A.J.
