Three first-time IMCA winners Friday at Davenport

By Mike McGuire DAVENPORT, Iowa (June 27) – Three IMCA drivers won their first local features of the season Friday at Davenport Speedway. Rob Henry captured his first Milan Heating & Air IMCA Modified feature. The 20-lap race was a classic high side-low side battle. The first half of the race it was Henry on the bottom and Mike Fluegel on the high side. The two drivers exchanged the lead four times in the first eight laps. After a lap nine restart, Fluegel got shuffled back and Joe Beal became the high-side hustler. Beal was able to get past Henry once, but the pass was erased by a caution flag. Henry was first to the checkers, with Beal second and Kelly Meyer third. Chris Zogg finished fourth and Brandon Durbin fifth. Thirty IMCA Modifieds were on hand. LaCrosse scores $2,500 IMCA Modified win at Luxemburg

By Greg Aregoni LUXEMBURG, Wis, (June 27) – Benji LaCrosse has won some big races and championships in his racing career. He added to those already illustrious accomplishments when he grabbed the $2,500 IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified feature win Friday at Luxemburg Speedway. LaCrosse started 20th in the field, drove through traffic and survived a late race scare for the win. Scott Drake, Jason Czarapata, Lance Arneson and Shawn Kilgore completed the top five. Kilgore started up front in the main event and shot ahead of the 26-car field. By lap 10, Kilgore had a lead of about four car lengths on Jeff Taylor. Taylor ran the extreme outside to track down Kilgore and take the lead on lap 12. LaCrosse, meanwhile, was charging through the field and by lap 23 found himself in third. Cotton Bowl, HO’T shows bring curtain down on IMCA Lone Star Series

PAIGE, Texas – A fan appreciation night program and two Texas Nationals shows bring the curtain down on IMCA’s Lone Star Series. IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center Southern SportMods and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks are in action Thursday, July 3 at Cotton Bowl Speedway in Paige and Friday and Saturday, July 4 and 5 at Heart O’ Texas Speedway in Waco. The top driver in points in each division for the final three nights of the series get $250 bonuses. A kids’ bicycle giveaway is in the works at Cotton Bowl, where fireworks and a Cody McCarver concert follow the races. Weather cancels opening night of Cottage Grove Modified Nationals

(June 27) – Unfortunately weather prevented the first night of the annual Modified Nationals from getting under way at the Cottage Grove Speedway on Friday June 27th. Saturday, June 28 is still on and will feature the Race Of Champions in the program. Also on the card will be the Northwest Extreme Sprints and Hornets. Pit gates open at 2 p.m., the grandstand opens at 4 p.m. and racing starts at 6:45 p.m. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors, military and juniors ages 13-17, $5 for youths ages 6-12 and free for five and under. A family pass good for two adults and up to four youths sells for $35. The track website is www.cottagegrovespeedway.com. New XFactor Bushings awards go to IMCA special events drivers

TULSA, Okla. – What started as Jason Gilbert’s hobby pays off this season for special events drivers in three IMCA divisions. XFactor Bushings of Tulsa, Okla., gives $50 product certificates to designated place finishers at as many as 80 specials for IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center Southern SportMods in 2014. “Our bushings cater most to those divisions. Marshalltown canceled June 27; next Friday is 50th anniversary celebration

By Jeremy Fox MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (June 27) – Mother Nature decided to rain out the races for tonight (Friday) at the Marshalltown Speedway on what was to have been Shawn’s Custom Hay Grinding Night. Marshalltown Speedway celebrates its golden anniversary next Friday, July 4. There will be a free luncheon from noon-1 p.m. and fans are invited to bring out old photos, memorabilia, and stories to share. Spectator admission for that evening’s race program will be $5 for adults and children 11 and under get in free on this special occasion. All retired past track champions and their families are invited to attend and receive complimentary grandstand admission. Mullen has $10,000 reasons to celebrate at Clash at the Creek

By Greg Aregoni FRANCIS CREEK, Wis. (June 26) – Some guys never earn $10,000 in their career, let alone win that amount in one night. That is exactly what Mike Mullen accomplished with his IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified victory Thursday at 141 Speedway, leading all 50 laps of the Clash at the Creek. Twenty-four of the best Modified drivers in the country were pared from 69 entries, from 10 states, for the sixth annual special and Mullen started on the pole by virtue of two heat wins on Wednesday night. Mullen opened up strong with a half straightaway lead by lap 10 over Darin Duffy. Jeff Taylor worked his way around Duffy by lap 20, right before the only caution of the race came out. When the race restarted, Mullen again forged ahead with Taylor in tow. Josh Long had started 13th on the field and started knocking off cars as he ran a smooth race down low. Buena Vista Raceway’s Suter Memorial sports $1,000 Stock Car prize

ALTA, Iowa (June 27) – IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars run for $1,000 to win at Buena Vista Raceway’s Wednesday, July 2 Kyle Suter Memorial. A minimum of $100 will be paid to take the green flag in the draw/redraw show.
