Auringer, VanDeest bank $1,000 Fall Challenge checks

WEBSTER CITY, Iowa (Sept. 26) – A first-time visitor this season and a Webster City regular both took $1,000 feature wins Saturday during Hamilton County Speedway’s Fall Challenge. J.D. Auringer raced his way onto the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot by topping the tightly contested Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified headliner. Jared VanDeest, meanwhile, checked out on the rest of the field in winning the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod main. Making his first Hamilton County start on the next to the last night of the point season, Auringer started second and chased Adam Larson most of the 20-lapper. The first caution wiped out the big lead Larson had built up. Auringer made his move to the front with a couple circuits to go, slipping by on the lower line in the second set of turns. Fourth TSS win of season comes Saturday for Gemmill

By Rob Nugent POCOLA, Okla. (Sept. 26) – Van Gemmill raced to his fourth local Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified victory of the season Saturday at Tri-State Speedway. Tate Cole was second and Jake Davis took third. The IMCA SportMod feature saw Neil Johnston pick up his first win in the class, as Logan Ellis finished second ahead of Ken McCarty. In the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car headliner, Kris Vaughn picking up his first win of the season ahead of Cecil Hayes and Jerome Heinrich.

Bucket list win for Sathoff accompanied by Cellan Memorial checkers at Jackson

JACKSON, Minn. (Sept. 26) – Last year’s runner-up ran in front every time around the track at this year’s Doug Cellan Memorial, during Saturday’s Jackson Nationals show. Luke Sathoff started outside the front row and led all 25 laps in taking the $2,000 IMCA Sunoco Stock Car checkers at Jackson Speedway. “This was definitely a bucket list win. This is one of the top events we race in,” said Sathoff, the winner ahead of Randy Brands and Dustin Larson. “We’ve got a lot of good Stock Car drivers around here so the wins never come easy. It’s always nice when you’re able to beat a couple Super Nationals champions.” Brands was two car lengths off the pace. Hogge repeats historical sweep of Delta-Valley Classic

MERCED, Calif. (Sept. 26-27) – Bobby Hogge IV repeated history in taking both legs of the fourth annual Delta-Valley Classic at Antioch Speedway and Merced Speedways, collecting $4,000 in winnings and a $500 bonus. Hogge had accomplished the same difficult Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feat four years earlier. Challenged by 16-year-old Ethan Dotson, the veteran Hogge searched for the right groove to maintain the lead Sunday at Merced. Paul Stone, who had run second the night before at Antioch, chased Dotson across the line. “Ethan is a true racer. He left me room to race him clean. He’s very impressive for his age,” Hogge said from victory lane. “As the track became slicker and slicker, I tried to stay in the same ruts lap after lap to maintain traction.” Earlier this summer, Dotson pulled off an upset, winning the Harris Clash at Hamilton County Speedway in Webster City, Iowa. GOODLAND, Kan. (Sept. 25-26) – Chris Heim led every lap on opening night while John Hansen had to race his way back to the lead on night two at Sherman County Speedway’s Flatlander special. Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified wins by both over the weekend at Goodland put the pair on the ballot for the 2016 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. Both main events ran caution-free. Heim drew the pole for the Friday feature and ran in front all 30 times around the track. He was slowed by lapped traffic in the late going, which allowed Jeff Hunter and Jeremy Zorn to make up ground before settling for second and third place, respectively. “I’d drawn the pole after starting sixth and winning my heat race,” noted Heim. “It definitely wasn’t easy trying to qualify from the heat.” Hansen had the inside row one start Saturday but found himself chasing outside front row starter Jeremy Frenier most of the first half of the race. Mackenthun wins 100th on final night of season at Arlington

ARLINGTON, Minn. (Sept. 26) – History was made on the final event of the season at Arlington Raceway as Dan Mackenthun won for the 100th time in his IMCA Sunoco Stock Car career. Jeff McCollum who won his 100th career feature in the division last year, battled Dan Mackenthun throughout the event. Mackenthun was a bit too anxious as he jumped the start and a yellow came out putting him back two positions. When the race restarted, Matt Speckman took the lead but McCollum was on the move. Cars were three-wide going into the corners. By lap three, McCollum had the lead and lap by lap, Mackenthun was reeling him in. By lap 12, Mackenthun got by him to take the lead. Curtain falls at Dodge City with Soderberg Memorial

(Sept. 26) – The curtains came down on the 2015 season at Dodge City Raceway Park with Brendon Gemmill, Jamie French, Angel Munoz and Reagan Sellard earning Saturday IMCA feature wins. Past track champion Gemmill worked forward from his 12th starting position to capture his second Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified win of the year atop the 3/8-mile DCRP clay oval. With Jimmy Brozek racing into the lead from the second row outside on the opening circuit, Gemmill went to work on the topside and surged into the lead at the midway point. Once out front, Gemmill moved to the bottom and drove away to put away his tenth DCRP win over the past four seasons. The parity continued in the IMCA SportMod ranks with French wiring the field to become the 12th different winner in as many events this season. KENNEDALE, Texas – All four IMCA main events pay $1,500 to win at Kennedale Speedway Park’s Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 2-3 Showdown special. Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Eagle Motorsports RaceSaver Sprint Cars, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center Southern SportMods all chase $1,500 checks at the ninth annual event.
