Veteran Corell tops Jamestown Modifieds

By Michael Savaloja The Jamestown Sun JAMESTOWN, N.D. (Aug. 27) – John Corell dazzled late to win his second Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature of the week Saturday at Jamestown Speedway. Corell went from fifth to first over the final nine laps on a smooth, multiple-lane racing surface. The 61-year-old Jamestown native was racing $2,000 richer after claiming victory last Sunday during the Sanders Mod Tour Challenge in Glyndon, Minnesota. “The track was racy. It was fun,” Corell said. “I don’t know what was going on behind me, but I’m thinking they probably had a good show going on back there too.” Corell passed Jarrett Carter, Rusty Kollman, Greg Friestad and Eric Edwards during the final nine green flag laps. Wilinski repeats at Shawano

By Scott Owen SHAWANO, Wis. (Aug. 27) – A big crowd of fans and competitors were on hand for Seubert Calf Ranches and Charter Communications Saturday at Shawano Speedway. Sixteen-year-old Konnor Wilinski scored his second straight and third overall Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature win. Travis Van Straten outdueled Brandon Czarapata to win his 10th local IMCA Stock Car feature. Lucas Lamberies made a last-lap pass on Wyatt Block for his seventh Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod win. Wilinski ran three wide with Shawn Frelich and Marcus Yarie before gaining the Modified lead on lap 12. Yarie took a look outside on the final circuit but Wilinski was not to be denied. The third different leader, Van Straten ran the last five laps with 15th staring Brandon Czarapata on his back bumper. Block led most of the distance in the SportMod main before relinquishing the front spot to Lamberies.

Season championship night win to Holliday at West Liberty

WEST LIBERTY, Iowa (Aug. 27) – West Liberty Raceway hosted season championship racing on Saturday night with the iWireless IMCA Late Model division headlining the program. The 25-lap main event saw Chad Holladay advance from his fourth row start and sail on to the victory in the caution-free feature. The win for Holliday put an exclamation point on his 2016 Late Model track championship. Andy Eckrich ran a strong race in taking second ahead of Jeremiah Hurst. The Performance Concepts IMCA Modifieds closed out the regular season with Brad Dubil scoring his second win in the last month in the very tough class. Dubil shot out front early and led the caution-free race flag to flag. The racing behind Dubil was very intense as the season point title was up for grabs. Shouse holds off Martens for Sprint Series of Oklahoma victory

(Aug. 27) – Point leader Andy Shouse started on the pole and held off a last lap challenge by Jake Martens to win his first Sprint Series of Oklahoma IMCA EMI RaceSaver Sprint Car feature of the season Saturday at Brill Motor Speedway’s inaugural Pat Suchy Memorial. Shouse began to enter lapped traffic entering turns three and four on the final circuit as Martens dove low entering the same turns and tried to slide in front of Shouse. The current national point leader held on, however, to take his first series feature victory of the season by just one car length. Chad Koch held on for third while Blake Dacus and Joe Wood Jr. rounded out the top five. Shouse and Dacus started on the front row for the 25-lap feature with Shouse taking the lead as the green flag fell. Tolands finish 1-2 at Davenport season championships

By Mike McGuire DAVENPORT, Iowa (Aug. 26) – Friday was Season Championship Night at Davenport Speedway and track champions were determined in all weekly classes. In Petersen Plumbing and Heating IMCA Late Model action, Rob Toland led flag to flag for the victory and track title. The win was his fourth at Davenport this season. Bobby Toland made a late race charge to finish second a give the family a 1-2 finish. Justin Kay came from deep in the field to finish third. Matt Ryan and Brunson Behning completed the top five. Mitch Morris capped off his championship run with a victory in the Eriksen’s IMCA Modified feature. Morris managed to stay just ahead of the battle for second and take his fourth win of the season. National point leader Grabouski added to All-Star Invitational field

BOONE, Iowa – Jordan Grabouski was likely going to make his way in as the national point leader, but he won’t have to wait for that call next week. The Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified driver will instead fill a spot in the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational field vacated by Jeff Taylor. Taylor, who was originally voted into the 13th annual race to be held during the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s, will be unable to attend the event at Boone Speedway. Grabouski will take Taylor’s spot as a representative from the Jet Racing Central Region. The final two of 30 starting spots for the event will be filled by the top driver in national point standings and the driver with the most feature wins in 2016 not already voted into the starting field. The All-Star event will be part of the Fri., Sept. 9 Super Nationals program at Boone.

SPI set to host season championship races

By Jerry Mackey FARLEY, Iowa – Simmons Promotions of Farley, Iowa is set to host season championship racing events at the three Eastern Iowa speedways under the direction of the SPI promotions group. All three tracks will host special events on championship night, which will include twin 25-lap features in the IMCA Late Model division. IMCA points will only be given for the first of those races each evening. Friday, Aug. 26 will be championship night at Farley Speedway, which will also include Kids’ Back To School Night. Champions will be crowned in all classes at the 3/8-mile dirt track. Farley Speedway will see action with hot laps at 7 pm, racing will follow. On Saturday night, action will shift to the ½-mile West Liberty Raceway located on the Muscatine County Fairgrounds in West Liberty, Iowa. Worrell, Linkenhoker are twin 20 winners at Shenandoah Speedway

(Aug. 20) – Yogi Berra couldn’t have said it better when describing Saturday night’s twin 20 Virginia Sprint Series races at Shenandoah Speedway, which saw Glenn Worrell and Anthony Linkenhoker take wins again. For the second time this year after rain forced twin 20 features on May 14 and then again Aug. 20, both nights ended with the same winners. The first feature had Tony Harris and Bill Rice pacing to green with Harris out first but Worrell right behind as the low line was paying off early. On lap five Worrell had it pegged and moved to the front and he just slowly inched away for the win. Tony Harris was second and Linkenhoker third. After resetting the field it was Harris out first but Rice stayed tight this time as the whole field had made adjustments and the front bunch were changing places every corner. Suchocki wins first of season at Luxemburg

By Greg Aregoni LUXEMBURG, Wis. (Aug. 19) – Jamie Suchocki won his first IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature of the season Friday at Luxemburg Speedway. Rick Dix started up front and took the top spot for the opening two laps. Suchocki ran from position six to the front by lap three. Suchocki ran right through the middle of the speedway while everyone else ran the top and bottom. The seas parted for Suchocki on his way to the front and the veteran was never tested. Dylan Heilmann followed Suchocki to the front but once they got there he was never able to make a run at the leader. Troy Muench started coming forward but a flat tire would diminish the point leader’s race win hopes and hand the point lead over to Shawn Havel. Suchocki maintained a six-to-eight car lead at all times on his way to victory lane. Heilmann finished second.
