Norton, Roath collect $1,000 wins at Canyon’s Shootout special

PEORIA, Ariz. (Sept. 1-2) – Holiday weekend Shootout feature wins at Canyon Speedway Park put Guy Norton and Ryan Roath on the ballot for next year’s Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. Norton scored the $1,000 IMCA Modified checkers Saturday at Canyon while Roath took home the same amount for the Sunday checkers. Norton and Roath tussled on opening night before finishing 1-2. John Parmeley led early before tangling with a lapped car; Chaz Baca borrowed a car from Jeff Stafford Sr. and led to lap 18, when brake issues took him out of contention. Bill Miller rounded out the top three. Parmeley again led early on Saturday while the ninth starting Roath worked his way up to second. Roath gained and then lost the lead to Jay Foster, who broke on the 19th circuit. Roath went on to the win head of Parmeley and Baca, back in the car he’d race at the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s. George Fronsman swept the weekend’s IMCA Sunoco Stock Car features, in front of Baca [Read More]

2018 Super Nationals

Rob Brillhart

The Prelude marked the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car debut for Crystal, Mich., driver Rob Brillhart. Brillhart bought the 2016 B & B Chassis out of Jackson, Minn., two weeks ago. The pro stock track champion this season at I-96 Speedway will put a check next to Super Nationals when Stock Car qualifying starts on Wednesday. “This is a dream come true. What more could you do than come to Super Nationals?” he asked. Learning on the fly, Brillhart was loose in Prelude hot laps, threw a street stock setup on his new ride and went to “oh boy” tight. While he’s a rookie in the class, Brillhart already shares the same dream as all the veterans of America’s Racin’ Vacation. “We’ve seen the lap times we wanted,” he said. “Being in the Saturday night field would be the ultimate.”

Nichols keeps clicking, collects career 500th IMCA Stock Car win

HARLAN, Iowa – Mike Nichols started racing 20-some years ago with aspirations that didn’t go much further than simply winning a heat race. On Sunday, the overachiever raced to his career 500th IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature victory during Dawson County Raceway’s Connie Jewett Memorial. “Somewhere in early, mid-July, things were clicking pretty good for us and I started thinking that we might be able to get to 500 wins this year,” Nichols said. “I didn’t want to get close and then have it lingering over us all winter.” The Aug. 26 win at the Lexington, Neb., oval was his 39th of the season and came in a stellar field that included David Murray Jr., IMCA’s all-time single division leader with 550 career Modified checkers. Just the second driver in IMCA history to reach the 500 win mark, Nichols used a word of his own making – ironical – to describe having to pass Murray to accomplish the feat. “After my 99th, 199th, 299th and 399th wins, we won the next night out,” he said. “After [Read More]
