$1K IMCA Modified feature at Thunderbird complements salute to veterans, fireworks

MUSKEGON, Mich. – A $1,000 to win IMCA Modified feature event complements the Saturday salute to veterans and lots of fireworks at Thunderbird Raceway.  There is no entry fee for the July 11 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier at Muskegon and IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Dirt Works Eastern Region, KMJ Perfor­mance State and track points will be awarded.  Pit gates open at 3 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 4:30 p.m. with hot laps at 5 p.m. and racing at 6:30 p.m.  Pit passes are $30. Spectator admission is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors 60 years and over and $5 for kids ages 6-11. Veterans with ID and youngsters five and under are free.  Questions about the Saturday race program at Thunderbird, sponsored by Allstar Performance, can be directed to 231 766-3300. Career 100th IMCA Modified win for Hatlestad

ARLINGTON, Minn. (July 4) – Clint Hatlestad had a fantastic night as he was able to pick up his 100th IMCA Modified career win Saturday at Arlington Raceway.  Hatlestad started eighth but had command of the race following an early restart. Another yellow on lap seven gave Toby Patchen an opportunity to challenge but Hatlestad wasn’t to be denied as he pulled away from the field.  Patchen took the inside line for the final restart on lap 14 but couldn’t get around and watched as Hatlestad sailed to the checkers. Patchen took second with Josh Ruby starting 11th and finishing third. Dan Mackenthun was the third and final leader in the IMCA Sunoco Sock Car feature after inch­ing ahead of Matt Speckman on the last lap. Trevor Serbus was also third to the front in winning the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car main. A single caution slowed the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod main. Inaugural California IMCA Modified Speedweek dates announced

By Ben Deatherage  MERCED, Calif. – Something exciting is around the bend in the California IMCA Modified scene. Doug Lockwood, promoter at Merced Speedway, has put together the first-ever Modified Speedweek in the State of California.  The series will race from Monday, Aug. 10 to Saturday, Aug. 15 at six different racetracks in as many nights.  The racing extravaganza will be open to both IMCA Modifieds and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods. Each race will feature a 20-car main event for $1,000 to win and $50 to start for the Modifieds while SportMods will race for $600 to the winner and $40 to start. Modified features are Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying events. Point funds will be up for grabs in both divisions, with $1,000-$400-$200-$100-$100 shares being paid in the Modifieds and $600-$300-$200-$100-$100 shares paid in the SportMods. Carter scores big win on Benton County Speedway’s Urbana 5 Race Night

By Jerry Mackey VINTON, Iowa (July 5) – One hundred and forty-seven drivers packed the pit area at the Benton County Speedway Bullring Sunday night for the Urbana 5 Memorial. The very special race night was run in memory of the five youngsters who perished in a tragic traffic accident in April of 2015; the kids were all avid race fans.  The headliner of the night was the 25-lap Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod feature. With the lineup included past national and IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s champi­ons, the Urbana 5 committee bolstered the winner’s share of the purse to $1,800. The ex­tra money brought a stout field of 30 SportMod drivers to The Bullring on Sunday night. Ryerson races to first win of season at Boone

By Joyce Eisele BOONE, Iowa (July 4) – It was a happy Chad Ryerson in his post race interview after winning the 18-lap Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod contest Saturday at Boone Speedway. Ryerson started sixth and took over the top spot at lap nine but had a lot of close company com­ing at him hot and heavy in the likes of Doug Smith and Johnathon Logue.  Smith and Logue tus­sled back and forth for the second position and Ryerson was content to let them do so as he raced to the win, his first at Boone this season.  Logue finished a close second with Smith in third. Twelfth place starter Adam Birck finished fourth and Robert Moore was fifth. Another first time winner came out of the IMCA Modifieds as Randy Havlik took the checkers in just his second night in the car. Larson, Shryock earn IMCA tour wins at Kossuth County

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (July 1) – A teenager with the biggest win of his life and a veteran driver with a ton of feature wins highlighted the Midwest Madness Tour show at Kossuth County Speedway.  Sixteen-year old Jayden Larson won the IMCA Modified feature, holding off Travis Hatcher, Jeremy Mills and Kelly Shyrock for the biggest victory of his young career. The $1,000 checkers put the Mankato, Minn., driver on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot.  The veteran Shryock also earned $1,000 for his IMCA Sunoco Stock Car victory. Hatcher and Larson led 24 Modifieds to the flag stand with Larson out front by lap two. After cautions on laps six and 10, the race stayed green for nine circuits. Bubak sprints to first at Fairbury’s Firecracker Nationals

FAIRBURY, Neb. (July 4) – Independence Day led the Mel Hambelton Ford Racing POWRi United Rebel Sprint Series to the 1/5-mile bullring of Jefferson County Speedway in Fairbury. A stacked field was on hand for the historic marking, the first time Sprint Cars took to the semi-banked dirt track and three-time series champion Jake Bubak was the victor. Kyler Johnson took off with the early lead with a heated battle for second behind him. Stuart Snyder rocketed ahead into turn three to take the lead on the fifth lap with J.D. Johnson following.  Leaders caught the end of the field before a lap 10 caution. Snyder took off with the lead on the restart, with Bubak, Zach Blurton and J.D. IMCA Modified Red River Tour win puts Leonard on top of podium at Kennedale

KENNEDALE, Texas (July 4) – After third- and second-place showings in his previous IMCA Modified Red River South Tour starts, Cody Leonard stood on top of the podium Saturday at Kennedale Speedway Park.  Leonard caught Chris Elliott late in the Independence Day 25-lapper for the $1,000 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying victory.  “We’ve had some good runs the last couple of nights,” the young Texan acknowledged. “After we missed opening night, we started 12th and finished third on Thursday at Bells and exceeded our expectations Friday at Waco to finish second. We’ve gained one spot each night and we’re really happy with the ways things are going.” Leonard had made just one previous IMCA Modified start at KSP, finishing fifth there last summer. Bowers sweeps weekend at U.S. 36

By Jacob Blair  OSBORN, Mo. (July 4) – For the second straight night of racing at U.S. 36 Raceway, the IMCA Modifieds saw Steven Bowers Jr. visit Westfall GMC Victory Lane. Bowers used a front-row starting position to lead every lap of the feature in route to the dominating win. Chad Clancy started in the ninth position and patiently worked his way to second. The lone caution of the race allowed Clancy a chance at Bowers, but Bowers kept a comfortable margin after the restart. Josh Munsen completed the podium with a third place run.  Bowers, already on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot, earned $1,000 for his Saturday efforts. Svoboda sails at Eagle

(July 4) – Austin Svoboda took advantage of an early restart, getting the lead and eventually the Saturday night IMCA Modified feature win at Eagle Raceway.  Anthony Roth took over second late in the contest, with Clint Homan and Aaron Pella rounding out the top four.  Cole Wayman won for the second straight week in the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods and Jeff Ware notched another IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock victory with a huge run to the front on the final circuit. Josh Young led every lap of the Mach-1 Sport Compact feature. Trevor Grossenbacher got the lead with seven laps left and held off Jason Danley for the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car checkers.
