$250 Sunoco bonuses on tap at two venues this weekend

VINTON, Iowa – Extra money is on the line for the winner of Friday’s main event for IMCA Sunoco Late Models at Lee County Speedway and Sunday’s Gary Webb tribute at East Moline Speedway.

Sunoco bonuses will be presented at Late Model sanctioned tracks again this year. Drivers are eligible for one bonus during the 2021 racing season. Winners so far this year are Matt Ryan at 300 Raceway in Farley, followed by Sean Johnson at Independence Motor Speedway, Andy Eckrich at 34 Raceway in West Burlington, and Ron Klein at Dubuque Fairgrounds Speedway. 

IMCA will announce mid-week before the dates bonuses are to be awarded at each track. 

Racing is set to get underway following 7 p.m. hot laps in Donnellson and 5:30 hot laps in East Moline.

East Moline Speedway to honor Webb’s 50-year career with June 20 tribute race

By Rob Hinckley  EAST MOLINE, Ill. (June 10) – As well as he’s running right now, he may even win it.  At age 72, Hall of Famer Gary Webb’s dirt track racing career is still at high speed. Webb is in his 50th season of speeding around tracks locally and beyond. The 50 years will be celebrated with The Salute to Gary Webb IMCA Sunoco Late Model race on Sunday, June 20 at East Moline Speedway.  In addition, Ken Schrader will be on hand to tackle the quarter-mile oval at the Rock Island County Fairgrounds.  “Fifty years at anything is a milestone, but racing at the level Gary has for five decades means more,” EMS General Manager and Race Director Bret Sievertsen said. “We knew East Moline Speedway wanted to honor Gary, especially since he considers this track ‘home’ and won a lot here.”  The feature race will be 56 laps, in honor of Webb’s car number and pay $2,000 to the winner. Final Drive For 5 win goes to Woodworth

By Brian Neal  DONNELLSON, Iowa (Aug. 21) – The race stayed green and after the checkers flew Denny Woodworth pocketed $1,000 for winning the fifth and final Shottenkirk Parts Express Drive For 5 qualifier for IMCA Sunoco Late Models at Pepsi Lee County Speedway.  Ray Raker and Woodworth drew front row starts for the event, with Woodworth jumping out front to lead early over Sam Halstead and Raker.  The fast pace Woodworth set up front allowed him to pull away from the multi-car battles behind him.  Woodworth entered lapped traffic starting on lap 13, which allowed Halstead and Tommy Elston to close in. The top three clear lapped cars on lap 21 to set up a four-lap dash to the finish. Woodworth held off Halstead and Elston in a caution-free race to claim the $1,000 top prize. Mother Nature wins at Lee County Speedway

By Brian Neal  DONNELLSON, Iowa – For the first time in 2019, Mother Nature has taken the checkered flag at the Pepsi Lee County Speedway in Donnellson. Heavy rains all week long has given the track crew no chance of getting on the race track to get it ready for Friday, May 3. Therefore, Brian and Marcie Gaylord have been forced to cancel the action, which was suppose to be presented by Buford Dozing and Excavating.  Friday night’s action was scheduled to kick off the 2019 point season for the I-Smile Silver IMCA Late Models. But now that will have to wait until next Friday, May 10, as Darkside Tint & Graphix, Driftwood 13, and Buford Dozing and Excavating help to bring the action.  Also on the card for Friday, May 10th will be the Budweiser IMCA Modifieds, Donnellson Tire & Service IMCA Stock Cars, Roberts Tire Center IMCA Northern SportMods and Discount Tire & Service IMCA Sport Compacts, all racing for track points.  Racing starts at 7:30 p.m.
