Blurton sweeps URSS WaKeeney Showdown

WaKEENEY, Kan. (Sept. 27) – The Mel Hambelton Ford Racing Lucas Oil POWRi United Rebel Sprint Series took to the 3/8-mile dirt track of WaKeeney Speedway for the WaKeeney Showdown finale Sunday night and it was Zach Blurton picking up the $1,000-to-win feature event.  Blurton had started the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car weekend at WaKeeney with the $700 feature win on Saturday.    Kyler Johnson and Todd Plemons were scheduled to set the pace for Sunday’s 30-lap feature event, but trouble ensued for Johnson during the pace lap causing him to pull off the track and Jake Martens took over the pole starting position. At the drop of the green, Martens marched to the race lead ahead of Plemons while Blurton charged forward to third. Martens again took off with the race lead following a lap 10 restart while Plemons and Blurton continued to battle for second. Blurton advanced to second and made a charge toward the race leader.  On lap 20, Blurton assumed the lead over Martens who then appeared to have a mechanical [Read More]

Lincoln Speedway PASS checkers fly again for Bard

By Frank Buhrman  ABBOTTSTOWN, Pa. (Sept. 25) – Garrett Bard made it two-for-two at Lincoln Speedway Friday with a convincing Pennsylvania Sprint Series feature win.  Bard brushed aside a bad heat race starting draw and won that event, then moved from his fourth starting position to second on the opening lap and passed early leader Ken Duke Jr. following a lap four restart to take control of the feature.  He held off a charging Devin Adams at the end of a race that highlighted several of the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car series “young lions.” Bard had led all 20 laps for a July 4 win at Lincoln, countering Doug Dodson’s bid for the lead. This time, while Adams closed the gap on the leader in the final couple of laps, Bard’s mastery of traffic kept his lead safe. Duke ended up third, ahead of recent high school graduate Justin Mills and Derek Hauck. Feature results – 1. Garrett Bard; 2. Devin Adams; 3. Ken Duke Jr.; 4. Justin Mills; 5. Derek Hauck; 6. Dave Grube II; 7. [Read More]

SALINA, Kan. (Sept. 25-26) – A driver who had a lot of good nights in 2019 had two more of them to end 2020. I’ll take them,” Grabouski said following the $1,550 and $1,500 to win Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifiers. “We have struggled a little bit so we tried some different things setup wise. We were good when we unloaded and better on the track.” Clay Money and Shane Hiatt chased Grabouski across the stripe on Friday. Jordy Nelson was second and Josh Vogt third on Saturday.
